    I started using iron head covers years ago because the irons were clattering whilst walking and getting small dents. I have a friend who is a club professional, he hates them and said you don’t see tour pros using them! That was true until Aaron Rai came on the scene.

    • @GregsGolfShack
      @GregsGolfShack 17 днів тому

      Agreed. Plus, tour players get new irons for free constantly, and club professionals often sell golf clubs, so golfers like you and me have a different perspective, lol. Take care of what we have since it is so expensive to replace 😉

    I struggle with leaving a divot after the ball. I still hit my irons pretty good, but not always flush. I’ve been a flipper forever but I’m still a work in progress. One thing I do is keep my eyes on the target side of the ball. This helps me to hit the ball first most of the time. It works most of the time 😊

    • @GregsGolfShack
      @GregsGolfShack 21 день тому

      That’s good if you’ve found a feeling that works!. If you want to experiment, try using more of your lead arm to guide the club down through impact and let your trail side be along for the ride. Too much trail arm and shoulder sends the club down too early and can also push our lead arm back behind us too quickly (causing a flip if you release the wrists, or a slice if we hold the face open, but also the famous chicken wing which prevents good compression at impact). Let your lead arm race down through impact and then extend towards the target on your way to a full followthrough. Worth a try 😉

  • @hemantgc2288
    @hemantgc2288 Місяць тому

    The video is instructive, but it would have been helpful if an actual golf swing was shown, so as to know if any arm strength is used or if it’s just body momentum which goes into the shot.

    • @GregsGolfShack
      @GregsGolfShack Місяць тому

      The arms will naturally move a bit. In the backswing, let the body pull the arms back, and the arms can lift upwards a little to the top position. In the downswing, let the arms drop down and let the body whip them through impact. Your lead arm can start to build on the body’s momentum as you backhand the ball through the impact zone.

      Results are what matter. My half swing is more about tempo and force rather than swing length. I had a lot of wrist hinge back when I filmed this so it still looks long but my lead arm did not travel as far between the full and half swing.

  • @keemo93
    @keemo93 2 місяці тому

    I think the overswing might be that when you get that extra shoulder rotation it is bringing you out of posture and makes it difficult to complete on the follow through. I don't know if it is similar to my early extension problems but they both have similar misses because you don't finish the swing due to out of posture. So I don't know if you should try instead of limiting the shoulder turn try to just keep in athletic posture because it looked like you were standing up too much when you demonstrated the problem.

    • @GregsGolfShack
      @GregsGolfShack 2 місяці тому

      Definitely a factor, where I come out of my posture early and balance and weight shift are not timed correctly. It’ll be tough to kick the bad habits, but I’m on the right track. Understanding the mechanics is one thing, but developing a new feel for what I’m trying to do is the challenge. Hopefully I’ve found it!

    Greetings from Southern California USA where we play golf all year and encounter a myriad of conditions. I watched three of your videos before subscribing and they were all helpful so I must say you earned it. This is not the first time I have heard this particular tip (been golfing for 60 years) but the way you presented and explained it is what made an impression on me. Your video on wind was also excellent and answered all my questions except how the wind affects the ball on the putting green. Keep up the good work because we need people like you on YT who can help us average golfers enjoy this wonderful game to its fullest.

    Hi, I'm new to golf with 149 cm in height. I have bought a golf club set, but each club is too long and uncomfortable to use. Is it okay to use Junior Golf Clubs?

    • @GregsGolfShack
      @GregsGolfShack 3 місяці тому

      It’s tough to say what the best option would be and seeing a club fitter might be a good idea to find out what is best for you. If a Junior set feels comfortable, I would think it is fine to use them. You can also try a ladies set which is just a shorter shaft with more flex.

    Followup video?

    • @GregsGolfShack
      @GregsGolfShack 3 місяці тому

      I think a followup will be coming, especially as I’m going through a swing change. I’m working on reducing my excessive wrist hinge and when I do it right there is much less movement of the club in my hands and a different impact position. I’m currently switching back and forth between the midsize and oversized grips (on different clubs sets). I’ll post a video when I’ve committed to a size ☺️

  • @UnknownMoses
    @UnknownMoses 3 місяці тому

    40 rounds? I would have to replace my grips 3 or 4 times per month that is beyond crazy. I always wear two gloves though and never take them off not even to putt. I play 300+ rounds per year in washington state between Feb - October. My bag is Ping S55 3 iron - PW with Titleist Vokey wedges 50, 54, 58 with minimum bounce angle. I do have a 60 and 64 but find as I am getting older, I don't get the distance needed for them to be useful as an open 58 provides plenty of loft on rare needed occasions. I do have a tendency to push fade my 3 and 4 irons unless I deloft the club and play the ball 1/4 ball width forward so I am thinking a slightly larger grip on those clubs might help, then again better swing mechanics is the better solution.

    • @GregsGolfShack
      @GregsGolfShack 3 місяці тому

      Wow! I’m envious of how much golf you play, that’s amazing! Changing grips every 40 rounds does sound excessive, but that’s what “they” say. But, I think every season is a good practice. Using two gloves might make a big difference and add to their longevity. It sounds like you know your game well. Have you ever given hybrids a try in place of the 3 and 4 iron? It’s not for everyone but might and something new and can be easier to hit and are fun to use around the green from rough. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment 😊

    Personally I don’t use them. I wouldn’t be against using them, but my irons are an old Tour Edge set from my Junior year of high school in 2006 when I was on the golf team. They’re old and I don’t play nearly enough to worry about them anymore. However, I’m looking at getting fitted next year for a complete set of TaylorMade or Ping clubs and I’d probably use iron head covers just to keep them in great shape as I’m obviously not someone who’s replacing clubs every few years. Heck, my newest clubs are a Nike VrII pro driver, 3 & 5 woods and a 2021 Ping Anser 4 putter. Everything else like my irons and TaylorMade wedges are from 2006😂

    Yeah, No. Unless you want the world to know that you are completely freaking anal, I would NEVER use iron head covers for ANY reason. I have Mizuno forged irons and they click around in my bag and do zero damage to anything. This is just OCD in overdrive.

    • @GregsGolfShack
      @GregsGolfShack 3 місяці тому

      A half-swing might spin less than a full swing, but a good strike is still key. This is why small pitch shots can still check up. Ensuring your grooves are clean and you are using a quality urethane cover ball should still produce good backspin. Actually, we often see pros use these abbreviated swing to minimize spin so the ball won’t spin back off the green. I do play for a bit more roll out on the partial shots though.

    I find face wind also exaggerates any side spin would you say that is true?

      I think it adds more resistance than anything, but wind from any direction can likely exaggerate or reduce the spin generated by impact.

    Flexibility is better in a fitness perspective for golf than pure strength from my point of view. When you have the muscle it creates more tension and tightness in the swing resulting in less work-ability of the ball. You can get force in the ball through other factors than mass which is the acceleration. A flexible body can better make the explosive motion for the acceleration.

      I think it can depend on the person, body type, and physical abilities and limitations. I think improving flexibility is good, but I believe strength is a great asset as well, especially in preventing injury. But strength training and bulking are separate things lol. I don’t feel bulking and golf is the best combo.

    What if you have a very strong right hand?

      This is where that “range” comes in to play. However, these ranges can be customized for individual needs as well. The “full swing analysis” mode has an option to measure data for the trail wrist too, and can demonstrate what it is doing throughout the swing and where improvements, if any, can be made.

    I'm 6'2" with long arms and the best irons I ever played were Titleist 962's right off the rack. I made the prettist dollar bill divot with these and had good distance control. IMO height doesn't mean a thing, all depends on player set up.

      Agreed in general. It’s certainly individual and 6’2” is right around that standard club length so you wouldn’t notice the impact of club length as much as someone who is 6’6” or 5’2”. It is more about finding out works best for us and a player’s setup and posture are factors!

    Getting fitted is something I’ve yet to do. I’ve always bought off the rack and just went with it. Currently gaming One Length irons which helped me tremendously! But I’m definitely going to get fitted very soon. I enjoyed the video 🤘🏽

      Thanks Beven! It is fun to experiment, especially if we continually work on our swing. Cool that you’re enjoying one-length irons… I haven’t tried that but might have to at some point. I’ve got some videos about how to replace a a golf head on a shaft if you want to try and fix your 5 iron. They are in my “equipment” playlist. Golf is expensive so anywhere we can save some $ 😉
