    The whole human safe thing is a complete BS why put humans when you have robots and if there is something robots cannot do very well then obviously get rid of the fu******* robot and put a human there. Obviously you put a human next to the robot who is going to pay salary for human and the cost of robot both ? I wouldn't not in my factory.

    Sorry, I dont get it. We have a robot that can handle 300kg, even if it stops during touch. I would never allow anyone to work near that, maybe it will be stoped but the impact inertia, and potentially workpiece that is not surrounded by foam can harm someone really bad. Or even worse, someone can get squeezed and in that case the is no protection apart from toruque on the motors.

      Well, I guess it is up to each plant manager individually. Big car manufacturers (Ford, VW, BMW, ...) already have AIRSKIN robots on the shop floor producing our cars. The speed is always set according to the potential risks, so if there is a danger of clamping someone, it will move slower and if it would just result in a shove, it is allwoed to move faster.

      I see the human dodging the robot. He leans away from a bonk on the head. But the robot doesn't seem to do anything to avoid a collision.

      @@donperegrine922 to halt the robot's motion, a minimum force of 5N must be applied through physical contact. Worker leans away from the robot to ensure uninterrupted workflow and operational efficiency.

    hm. but why does the robot needs to be next to humans? And isnt it better to solve the safety aspect of your idea with a simple human detection camera?=0 Wouldnt look as cool I recon

      In most productions, floor space is in high demand and having robots without a full fenced cell frees up a lot of space for other stuff. So it is not about having humans next to robots, but being allowed to get rid of fences. Cameras are not there yet when it comes to calculation time and safety certifications.

      We were wondering us the same, but as it turns out, the cobots can not achvieve the cycle time needed without extra safety. thus integrators contacted us to manufacture AIRSKIN for their cobots. Most of them only add AIRSKIN around the tool and the ellbow joint.

      Yes, this is an easy option for lightweight robots. But once the robots get bigger, the moving mass is a problem. With an active skin, you can detect with the same sensitivity all over the robot AND the tool and trigger a safety stop BEFORE the collision force is too high ( see ISO 15066 limits: with AIRKSIN, due to the soft active skin, we can move much faster with robots than cobots with torque measurement in the joints.

    How should we choose the most adequate spring for a given collaborative application? Do we need to measure the pressure and force collision and then determine the spring necessary to absorb the energy in order to achieve ISO/TS15066 safety requirements? In this case, how can I calculate the energy absorbed by the spring? Thank you very much

      Dear viitimm, yes, it is necessary to measure the force and pressure during collision, therefore you need a measuring system for force and pressure according to ISO/TS 15066. You can get the measuring equipment there: www.gte.de/product/force-measuring-systems-for-collaborating-robots/?lang=en The Safetyflange will displace the load in case of a collision, therefore it is not possible that a respective part of the human body is jammed by the robot. That’s why it provides a z-displacement of 11mm, a torsional break away angle of +/-10° and an angular break away angle of +/- 8,8°. It is assembled with a user definable spring to stabilize the load during manipulation, therefore the spring force is acting in addition to the load. It is necessary to measure the transient and quasi-static force in case of a collision for your application. The measured force and pressure must fit with the biomechanical limit values of the human body according to ISO/TS 15066. You can determine the necessary spring by the max. quasi-static force, which is allowable in your collaborative application. Example for a z-collision: According to ISO/TS 15066, the allowable quasi-static force for collisions in the region of the human hand is 140N. The allowable transient force (acting force during the first 0,5 seconds after a collision has occured) for collision in the region of the human hand is 280N. The common force if you consider the breaking distance of the robot, the manipulated mass and the spring force, should not exceed the quasi-static limit of 140N. m…Load [kg] s_fl…flange displacement [m] s_rob…breaking distance robot [m] We offer different springs with following characteristic values for the Safetyflange: k_1…spring constant 2,8N/mm k_2…spring constant 1,6N/mm k_3…spring constant 0,75N/mm F_s1…preload force 61,54N/mm F_s2…preload force 43,92N/mm F_s3…preload force 22,22N/mm F=F_s1,2,3+k_1,2,3∙(s_fl+s_rob )+m∙9,81<140N The AIRSKIN of the Safetyflange will send a stop signal to the robot controller, if the load is displaced vertically of about s_fl=2mm. You must consider the breaking distance s_rob of the robot as well. If the breaking distance of the robot is s_rob=5mm (assumption), the mass is about m=5kg, you will get a quasi static force of 71,3N if you take spring 3, and a quasi-static force of 93N if you take spring 2. You must measure the resulting transient force, which should not exceed 280N during the first 0,5 seconds. The pressure should not exceed a maximum of 140N/cm² and 280N/cm². It is not recommended to determine the spring according to the max. energy absorption of the flange, because you must consider the biomechanical limit values according to ISO/TS 15066. Safety is dependent on many various things. AIRSKIN is the perfect solution to grant general safety. And combined with other measures the advantage is even bigger. I hope this will help.

Supposing the robot needs to manipulate the piece horizontally, one should ensure that the weight of the part is not sufficient to activate the security mechanism and, at the same time, it needs to ensure that a collision with a human will not harm him/her. To do it, I imagine we still need to measure force and pressure, however, the formulas for the deflection of the spring is different. Am I wrong?
