This was so helpful! So could you theoretically use something like 12/22 and 12/81 and 40 vol on a natural level 2/3 base trying to achieve a neutral level 6?
@@Sarah-ii7vr absolutely! I’d recommend doing a test strand first. Any see if you need to add any 0/28 or 0/88 or both, but yes.
@ thank you so much!
This for you guys…cos he didn’t explain which range he used kolesten perfect? Illumina? 7/ is in illumina it's for a sheer grey coverage, 77/0 is only used for course resistant white hair, and intense naturals are not to be mixed with any other colours in order to keep them potent, to insert tone to these intense naturals you can use mix tones 7/00 has less intense coverage suitable for hair that is not resistant I would use this when formulating for red fashion shades for grey coverage 7/0 is used for formulating for all other shades for grey coverage but is not suitable for resistant hair
@@JustBeYouooh so yes. To clarify, the rule of thumb regarding any grey coverage is percentage of grey is percentage of neutral needed in the formula. This applies to fine, medium, or coarse texture of hair. Regardless of if your using 7/, 7/0, or 77/0 or any other level. So for example we have 25% grey white hair and are target shade it 7/73. Fine hair: illumina color 25% 7/ + 75% 7/73 Medium: KP 25% 7/0 + 75% 7/73 Coarse: KP 25% 77/0 + 75% 7/73. Hope that clears things up 😊
@ yeah I learned that from your video…I understood that part..but I do think “is the 75% rule still used on 100% grey hair? Is it for any grey over 75%? “ so I do thank you for explaining the ratios . I’m used to using Schwarzkopf (taught at school 50/50 if over 50%) maybe the rules have changed with them since then. Also, I have a question…why do some people in forums say you shouldn’t mix fashion colours with eg 66/0 (double digits). They said it “dilutes” the intense natural when mixed with the fashion colour. What do you reckon? Btw I now use Kolesten Perfect…
I just checked the chart. They only have 6/0/66/0,6/00 ….where did you get 6/ from?
@@JustBeYouooh Illumina color and Koleston Xpress 😊
The best explanation 👍
@@marcelarestrepo6923 thank you!
Hello! If you don't mind answering some questions: - Are you still on fin? - If so, how has your hair held up? - Still no sides after all this time?
@@babylonkino1354 yes, 6 years and going strong. No side effects. 1mg daily
1) Can you use this method on a natural colour of base 4 with 40% of grey (salt and pepper)? 2) And if so, is it as damaging on the hair as using bleach? 3) is this placed as foils or all over? I am not a hairdresser but have had my hair (roots only) bleached in foils over many years and now my hair is ruined after a keratin treatment. I would like to discuss your method with my hairdresser and fingers crossed it may bring life back to my hair 😢
You are great.Thank you❤

Another video on toning. People love these. Toning formulas. (Love these even more). Especially with photos or video of the hair after toning. Keeping blond hair healthy after lightening. Product recommendations is a good one too !!

@@OwlKnight32 man I WISH I was getting paid
/77 is that shown on its own in the shade chart or do you just gauge it yourself how much more brown there is percentage wise
Fabulous advice! So a quickie, natural level 5, with 60% grey. Would this Wella formula work: 30g 12/0, 20g 12/22, 10g 12/81 & 5g 12/61 and 130g 40 vol or would 30 vol be better?
@@cf2753 good thinking, I like where you brains at. With grey it can be tricky. I’d recommend doing a test in the back area of the head. I’d suggest 10 more grams of 12/0. BUT remember that this would be an experiment. High lift color and gray coverage is not always a guarantee. So just keep that in mind, you don’t want it going too green or gray/violet
Thank you so.much for the reply. I am going to do a test this weekend, I will update the comments with my results 😊
Such a beautiful educational video! You're amazing!❤️
What would your formula be for level 8 natural color for high lift? I Thank you ❤
@@lb209 if your a natural level 8 I probably wouldn’t use hi lift because you’re already so light. I’d probably use a level 10 with 30 vol
Can I use this to go light
@@erinmcgovern7023 you can go up to a level lighter. Just one level, but yes
What about on grey hair? Would you need to use more of a natural base plus tone?
@@thebabygurlxlove well in that situation you need to pick what more important, getting the hair light? Or getting the grays covered. If someone has a significant amount of grey, you might want to your typical grey coverage formulation at a light level. If someone had 25% grey hair, yes I would add neutral high lift tone
And if ig only lifts and never tones? I left it on my hair 1:30 hr and it inly looked toned orangey. Lucky me it matched the other part
Would this work the same way , with 100% grey and wanting to go a copper / red / strawberry blonde !!! Hot roots got me intimidated!!!!
@@lydiasusi6412 for reds in that situation I’d recommend a 50 : 50 split with neutral and the target color.
thank you for this super informative video!! would this same theory work on dyed red hair that is a level 5?
@@rzzdxx color can’t lift through color. So unfortunately it’s not recommended to do this on dyed hair

I want to color my hair with high lift color but I was wondering if I should or could break my base prior to coloring it to ensure that I get the lift that I want. Is it possible to do that? Is that a good idea?
@@SusanneSartorio I wouldn’t bother, high lift with will life up to 5 levels on its own.

Hi Angelo. I was wondering how your finding the longevity of this product. Is it lasting 4-6 wks or does it tend to fade faster? Thanks!
@@HairByGina_S I haven’t noticed it fading any faster than Koleston perfect classic. And I’ve been using it for 7-8 months now on my clients
Is the K Xpress levels of color calibrated to match the Kolestone Perfect line? (The swatches in Cosmoprof for a level 7 xpress was slightly lighter than KP. What do u think? Also please compare the fadage against KP. Does it fade to any freaky colors, does it fade faster?
@@maryannakana2577 hi! So yes, if used CORRECTLY, everything should reflect the same way. I think the lighterness is by not remixing every 10 minutes, or not understanding that 4/ is different than 4/0. -/ is natural so just a touch warmer than -/0 which is neutral. So maybe that’s a reason it looks “lighter”. Utilize the ash shades to adjust your formulas. As far as fading. I haven’t experienced anything unusual, and I’ve been using since January of 2024. Haven’t needed to refresh anything in any abnormal way. It really is just FAST grey coverage. It sticks the same, covers the same, etc. Just in 10 minutes
this was the most helpful video ive ever watched regarding lifting.

You have explained hair colors in amazing way. I have been to 5 stylists and watched numerous videos for the last month and none of them explain like you. ❤ I do have a question. My overall hair is at a 7 already. I dyed all my hair. What do you suggest for my formula to get to a 10? My hair does not like bleach so Hi-lift is working just a slow process cuz I had black dyed hair. Please help
Now it makes sense. You are awesome at explaining color theory. You sound like a great teacher/mentor. So the result of this formula would be a level 9 neutral/natural blonde. Is that correct?.
Yep 8-9 depending on texture and melanin
does this trick works on level 3/4 ?
