Just, as in justice. True, upright, honest, the idea that things are the way they ought to be. Cause, that which moves, excites or impels to action or effect. I can think of few greater Just Causes than taking responsibility for the safety, well-being and provision of your loved ones and your community. Where Love is the highest order of the day. Where we peruse virtue over pleasure. Where everyday we do our best to help put the world back together. And maybe even have some fun along the way.

Apocalypse Road-trip ToolBox (watch till the end, the best stuff is at the bottom)

I break down the tool box we carried with us on our move to Idaho. The philosophy was that if the worst happened while we were on the road I could provide for security while we figured out what to do next. Or be an asset to whatever home or community we found ourselves in. It is not an exhaustive system but fairly robust. It had to meet several criteria: 1. It had to be small-ish 2. It had to b...

Bonus Episode! What’s in my Blackout Bag?
It's nice you have extra medical equipment to possibly assist someone else. My take is I am not stopping for anyone or anything if I'm stuck on foot having to ruck 40miles home from my job. My wife and kids are far more important than potentially stopping for someone or something and getting hurt myself. I know it sounds heartless but how many people would stop if I was hurt.
You can also adjust the claw by removing "stacks". Which I'm sure you know by now considering this was 5 months ago
Who asked you to throw it away? Nevermind
Any updates on your holster?
Nice video. Couple of things… Have a trash bag rolled up if you need to lay it on the ground, plus you should add more food & maybe a bottle of water, put your mags somewhere it’s easy to grab out of your backpack, & also have some glow sticks to put on your bag while your walking at night. Maybe a hammock, tinder, thermal blanket, solar panel power charger, hand crank radio.
Hey! I like that you have tools to put holes in other people, AND the supplies to patch holes in you, in the same modular kit. Good thinking... Hey! Are you planning to stop and trim your nails on the way home? Hey! You need more than 450 calories. If you work an hour's drive from home, that could be anywhere from 10 to 60 miles, depending on where you live. The MetRx bar is an OK start, but check out Gear Skeptic's analysis of lightweight, calorie-dense trail foods: ua-cam.com/video/iqgayipoNWA/v-deo.html Hey! Carry enough water to get you home. Don't screw around with stoves and cups and boiling. You're not camping. You can have coffee when you get home. Hey! Get a bivy bag and a good heavy duty tarp with a Mylar reflective side (Arcturus). Again, you're not camping, but you may need to snooze for a couple of hours. Hey! Good luck to you Sir! Keep on the sunny side of the street, and keep on keepin' on...
Yes! Excellent advice. I'm a huge fan of going slowly to build habits. When the gyms opened back up, it took me a long while to start going regularly again. But I did it, and I did it by going slowly. My first few weeks were just a brisk 3 mile walk with a very slight incline. Easy. Sometimes I'd throw in weights because I love weight training, but my focus wasn't the fitness portion at all. My focus was waking at a certain time and driving to the gym again. When that became easier, I began focusing on the fitness portion.
Great set up
An extra pair off socks, underwear and a sweater I would say. Some cash if you don't need to put up a shelter and stay in a B&B you get some better sleep. And some more food and water. But I don't know your cercomstances what would work for you.
I bought 2 of these stoves so i could use 2 wind screens 👍🏴
? ??o?o??
Not a bad set up. Maybe a little overcrowded / overboard for a GHB but each person has his own philosophy and unique local conditions so I can't judge. I like that it's made with relatively every day items. Maybe add a Bic lighter, a head lamp to keep the hands free at night, some really comfortable socks for walking and maybe move the poncho to be more accessible, so you do not not have to open the bag wide to fish for it.
Not to criticize your preparation but it's more like a candle/glow light storage bag than a blackout bag.
What do you keep in your blackout bag?
@@justincause8092 Flashlights (handheld and some cheap headlamps), batteries, candles, a battery/crank radio, a power bank for the phones. Need to add glow lights and some other stuff. Like I said I'm not criticizing your preparations because probably have other stuff around the house. I was commenting on the fact that taking all the candles in the house and storing them in a bag does really not constitute a blackout bag. Just a personal opinion. Also considering the fact that the bulk of you back up light is fire based I would add a small car extinguisher to have on hand.
Subbed!!!!
I’m a huge stress eater too. Fasting really helps me better understand my relationship with food!! Great informative vid!
I hate breakfast!!!
I’m sure breakfast feels the same way about you.
I like your Red Dawn reference in the video. Why not make it more like a "Red Dawn" type of kit? Mine is, here's why... It would have to be a horrific civil unrest situation, natural disaster, some sort of revolution for me to abandon my vehicle and walk to my loved ones. You might find yourself in a fighting or self defense situation maybe even hiding from a group of people. If you're injured in a natural disaster situation, someone may leave you for dead and take your bag and edc. I see a lot of great bags, yours included, but not many set up with regards to actual SHTF scenarios. Some examples that I have added... Handcuffs, zip tie restraints, smoke canisters and even large type m80 firecrackers for distraction/misdirection etc..... I see more comfort items in a lot of bags but will that get you home at all costs? Thanks in advance!
Great content! Love your videos, great advice delivered in a no nonsense manner. 👏
Nice video. Thanks for sharing. My pack that I carry to work is about the size of yours. Of course everyone's pack is different. What works for me may not work for others. I enjoy seeing other people's configurations and gear setups that fit their lifestyle. #salute
Good video bud! Looks peaceful out there!!!
I’ve never used the solid fuel stoves. I have the small firebox and a Trangia. I keep a bottle of Heet in my pack, very small and flat. I like all leather gloves rather than the synthetic/leather ones because they’re better for use with fires and will keep my hands warmer overall. If there’s one thing I would upgrade that you have, it would be the cheap plastic poncho. If you replace that with a military style poncho, you could use as a poncho, a shelter or a sleeping bivy. Couple that with a poncho liner and you have a lightweight sleeping bag. Add a wool blanket for a bit more warmth and you can get down to about 50 degrees comfortably. I liked a lot of the low profile comfort items like the coffee and the electrolyte liquid. I would also add a safety blanket that has a reflective inner side to pitch a low profile shelter while being able to maintain some body heat. Arcturus and Pathfinder are pretty good ones. Thanks. Nice display of your kit.
Thank you for the input. I am going to have to over haul my bag soon. After just moving from Virginia to Idaho, the needs of the bag will be quite different.
Hate to criticize but I'm surprised that you don't have a Bic lighter in there.
I carry one for EDC in my pocket. I covered it in another video.
Good man
...you would outlast a nuclear power plant concerning fuel for your Esbit stove...! In a non permissive environment it would not be wise to stop for a cup of tea or to clip your nails...! But I like the bag itself and your "desinfectant"!
This all seems very eclectic. You have a lot of stuff that doesn't seem to fit the "get home mentality", more so of a let's go camping bag. You have a stove but nothing to cook on the stove and lots of redundancy with fire starters when simple Bic lighters work better. You won't be stopping to make fires, I know from experience. Lose some of the extra weight by ditching anything that you have to stop to use. When "getting home" you won't be stopping much. Make your gear accessible in a way that you can grab it as you walk. Last thing you want to do is stop moving, and only do so if you have no choice. More high calorie food and a life straw with a 32oz water bottle will serve you better. Ditch the shelter and poncho for a rain jacket. The jacket will work better than both and you don't have to stop to set it up. Keep an extra pair of hiking boots in your vehicle too.
The last thing I’m thinking about if I need to get home is cooking and sleeping. I’ll be running as much as I can. I feel like people confuse get home and bugout bags. I wouldn’t use any of that stuff. Water, a snickers, my edc gun, a knife and flashlight. That will get me home to my family.
Must not be a very long trip. Have walked or run the route before?
@@justincause8092 I live in ct and work all over the state. It’s not a huge state. U can pretty much get anywhere from anywhere driving within an hour and a half-two hours. Even still if i was somewhere a little bigger I stay in shape I’m in the gym every night so I’m gonna be moving. I just couldn’t possibly stop to cook food or sleep trying to get back to my daughter
I understand the sentiment. It sounds like you have the attitude of “I will get back to my family at all costs”. I too have this dedication. And this type of mindset is the most valuable thing in the type of scenario where one would have to take off on foot instead of driving a vehicle to your destination. I don’t plan on doing any full on cooking, just heating water for drinking, coffee, or medical needs. The stuff in the bag is really to help with the unforeseen. Roads or bridges washed out or non usable due to man made or natural circumstances. Detouring to avoid large groups of people with possible mal intent. I am injured and it slows my progress. My goal is to get there as quickly as possible, injury free and in a condition that I am still an asset when I get there. I like your mindset and appreciate the conversation.
In the area I am in (Los Angeles), I’m also not stopping, because to do so would be very detrimental to my health! Lol. I’ve walked the 17 miles from work to home a couple times as a test and there are lots of very shady areas throughout LA that there is just no getting around... so for me to stay safe, I need to keep moving and not stop for more than a couple minutes in any one place.
@Agm Smith All our situations are different. Sound like you have made a plan, thought it through even tested it out. Which is what this channel is about, making your own plan. Thanks for the comment.
can't hear ya from across the room, skipping it
I would put the cash in a zip lock bag. Don't want that to get wet. I would add a Silcock key and a whistle for signaling. Nice job. Thanks for sharing.
Real content. I like these videos better than those channels that do stock video and voiceovers. Subbed. Hang in there, your channel will grow.
Thanks! Will do!
What did you say?
the only thing an umbrella protects you from is being a man. lol
Great video!!!
Good luck on the next chapter of yours and your family's life!!!
That was an outstanding intro to the video! Lol! I like the forward thinking on the interior dead bolt. Not having the thumb turn. Good stuff!
Chinese...not Russians.
Still sure about that?
👍
You basically need two things to get through a couple rough days on the road. A blanket and a water bottle. All else is just extras. What's missing from this video? A blanket and a water bottle.
Well done. Thanks!
One critique from early in the video, before we even get to the bag. A lot of "bugout bags" are in truth just emergency bags or evacuation bags. Most of us have no intention of leaving our homes, especially during a disaster. However, its important to plan for things beyond our control. What if there is a fire? Or a flood? What if your home somehow suffers major damage and you need to flee with your family? These events happen every year, all around the world. What is your plan if you wake up in the middle of the night and your house is on fire? Too many people ignore fairly mundane emergencies. Do you have a plan in place to stay with friends, family, or even a hotel in the area with some clothes and supplies set aside so you can still go to work while waiting on major home repairs or while in the process of trying to buy or rent a new house?
You are correct and I do.
How much does your edc weigh? I don’t think I could tote that much stuff around on the daily.
Never actually weighed any of it. I have spent sometime however trying out different holsters and items to find the right combination (for me) that spreads the weight out so it is not as noticeable. Between my belt and utilizing all my pockets I barely notice the weight anymore.
Good video fellow poet.
That lip for the cup is a good idea; will need to get one for my kit. May I suggest some normal firelighters or hex cubes to put with the extra dragons; there looked like room and that way you can also feed twigs into the cooking system instead of using a dragon. Think your also a bit light on TP and need more calories.
What are you expecting? WW3? What are the chances, check your insurance data?????
🤣
I suggest you take a weekend and actually hike from your work too home and test out your gear and your physical fitness. I think it would be safe to say your timings are off a little bit and that you should double the time. A soldier travels on calories so you need more food, i'm pretty sure you would end up changing out your stove. You know what !? Too make your life easier just carry what a soldier would carry on a long range patrol. You don't need the war fighting equipment just what they have in their rucksack. I recommend lots more food or snacks, a decent sleep system and shelter set up....and have the ability to layer up on clothing because that is your first shelter. Also research what a thru hiker / backpacker would do on a long trip. Cheers new subscriber.
Thank you for the comment. Definitely good advise. I have done 3 and 4 day backpacking treks through the high peaks region of the Adirondacks and always found we brought to much food. Probably one reason for an underestimation on caloric needs.
@@justincause8092 Yes could be yours right. I am just saying if your using this bag, obviously something bad has happened and the going could be rough do too circumstances unforeseen bad weather, rough terrain, hostilities, road blocks ect. Thats why I said plan for being out for double the time. Having more food&water and a better cook system + a decent sleep system will make life more restful / comfortable and in the long run might ultimately save you some time in the end plus increase your chances for success. Cheers🍻
Bingewatched your videos and liked them. Obviously. You deserve much more followers. Well.. you just found another one from Germany. You are speaking with a clear and calm voice, which makes it much easier and more enjoyable for those that are not native english speakers. Keep up the good work 👍
Thank you for the kind words. I am working keep and increase the quality of my videos in the future. Thanks for being here!
Great video bud! You should probably have more food in your bag.
Thanks man. I was thinking of adding a field stripped MRE or something similar to the bag. Will probably also add a watch cap/beanie to the bag as we are moving into colder months.
that is a very cool place to keep the resqme
Yea I like that spot as well. I keep mine in a grid- it organizer on the visor
Thank you! Good video
Awesome video! Could you do a video on reinforcing your home?
I will be doing that in an upcoming video. Be on the lookout for one about defense.
What holster are you using to carry your G19?
It’s a T.Rex Arms Sidecar. The classics one. The new ones have a cool guy hinge between the pistol and the magazine.
Great video bud!!! Could you please show us your blackout bag?
I will soon!
