Thank you so much💙 As the sun dipped below the horizon, the rhythmic pounding of construction finally fell silent. The massive skyscraper stood still, its skeletal frame cutting jagged shapes against the darkening sky. The workers had all gone home, their laughter and shouts fading into memory, leaving only me behind. Just me. The lone night guard, watching over a silent monument to human ambition. As the hours crept by, the city transformed. A thick fog rolled in, swallowing the streets below in a cold, grey ocean. From my perch high above, the world became something otherworldly... ethereal. The lights of the city glowed faintly beneath the fog, like embers buried in ash, while the stars above seemed so distant, so unreachable. The beauty of it all was almost unbearable, tinged with a sadness I couldn’t quite name. Being a night guard is quiet work; too quiet. The solitude weighs heavy, like a hand pressing down on my chest, but I tell myself it’s a gift. Time to think. Time to gather my thoughts. Yet, those thoughts spiral in the silence, looping back to the same questions, the same regrets. The stillness of the night feels almost sacred, but it’s also suffocating. The world below sleeps, lost in dreams, while I stand here awake, untethered, and apart. The fog whispers a truth I can’t ignore: this peacefulness isn’t comforting; it’s a reminder of how alone I am. The city dreams, but I remain trapped in this waking limbo, a ghost haunting a tower that will one day teem with life, long after I’m gone.
