A relaxing, and at times gloomy, holiday weekend on Oneida Lake, NY. It wasn't the windiest of weekends, so we did a good bit of floating and swimming. Its always a good time on the lake!

Fist Sail of the Season
Переглядів 3212 роки тому
Our first quick sail on our Catalina 25, after getting it all set up and launched today (5/1). It was a light day, but it was great to get out on the lake and under sail. Decided it would be more fun sailing then scrubbing the decks, we will do that next trip
I'm sold! Thank you, Brian, for sharing this video. It is much roomier than I thought for 25f boat.
😊😊😊
Pretty Nice
Great thorough walk through. Thanks
@@gregorywoodbury7415 glad you enjoyed it
That round stainless steel thing bolted to the framework above the transom - is that a little bbq grill? I have seen them on a couple of other Cats, and wondered what they were.
Yes, propane magna BBQ grill. A must have!
hi Brian, great boat! what did you use to cut out the storage behind the settee? thanks!
How well did that Nissan XTerra pull that Catalina 25?
I only use the Xterra to move it around the marina, launch it, and pull it out. Never tried pulling it down the road with the Xterra
Well done. It works for you. Thank you.
Need boat ❤
Nice tour, thank you.
Is that your propane tank sitting on the galley floor next to the stove?
Nicely done! Thank you!
Can that be sailed with one person or does it generally require 2 people?
2 makes things easier, but it is completely manageable single handed
@baisley22 I'm willing to get a 22 I'm new to sailing, plan on taking lessons in November where I live and learning. A 25' however seems like the perfect size for a big guy like me if I'm going to get a boat a keep it a while before I get the fever for a bigger one. I really prefer it. Thanks.
Brian, great job on a beautiful boat! Hows the head room on the 25 with pop top openend and closed? Im looking at Catalinas. Was thinking i needed 27-30. However i see many of these 25 footers out there for sale. I may just get away with the 25 footer? Your boat is absolutely beautiful and so organized. Cheers to that, anr happy sailing!
I'm 6'1" and can stand up just fine with the pop-top up. I believe it's around 6'4" tall. I have an 89 with the lowered floor, so I believe headroom with the top down is around 5'8". No matter what, I'm crouching everywhere with the top down. The cabin is very roomy for me except for the headroom. If you're a short guy, then this is the perfect boat. Both beds are long enough for me.
@@jonmccauley6490 thank you for the reply, I'm 5'11"
I have a 22 and see the canvas tops on all the pop-ups, but I can not find one anywhere. Where did you get yours and did you fit it yourself? Thank you. My next boat will be a 25 when I find one with a factory trailer. Nice boat!
My cover came with the boat when I purchased it from the previous owner. I have come across a couple for sale on different pages or eBay over the years though
Always a excellent time at the falls, great playground too
This is exactly what I'm looking for...
You didn't do a very good job of showing us the battery and water tank. We didn't actually see either, just the aft bulkhead of the space.
Wow.. I Luv how thought-out & organized everything is in your sailboat !
Very nice Thanks for posting
Nice perspective of the set up process! I recently post a video showing how we set up ours. Check it out here : ua-cam.com/video/7vl3AklLUKA/v-deo.html
Very nice job on the upgrades. Great boat.
We just purchased a standard rig C-25 and will have to drop the rig shortly to install a new headstay and roller furling unit. But, we'll have to do this in the boat's slip necessitating side standoffs to the rail to prevent athwartship swaying of the mast whilst raising. This idea helps! So you used the jib halyard with the mainsheet system as block & tackle on the foredeck to raise? Also, it looks like you have a topping lift for the boom?
I know this is an older video, but do you remember where you got the undertable drawers?
I found them on Amazon at the time
Get a sweet camper van?
No, just borrowed a buddy's for the weekend
How long does this normally take, non time lapsed for clarification?
What you see in the time lapse is just over an hour
Great Job Brian - Picked up some ideas for our new (with us) 1985 Cat-25. Fair Winds !
So many great ideas in this tour. Thanks for sharing!
Great job even with the backstay getting caught on something. It was nice how she stepped off of the boat so delicately so that the mast wouldn't sway. I love that this is in 4k and I can see the process in great detail. how does this process compare to the way you do it with the two blocks in your later mast stepping video?
are the solar panels sewen into the top?
The bimini has Velcro lapels sewn into it, which is what secures the panels.
@@baisley22 how many wattts of solar and storage do you have?
👍
⛵🌊🎣💯
Thanks for showing us your boat!! I like the canvas top you have!
Love it, Brian! Your cushions are great, love the Bimini with solar power, and lastly, the pop top extension!! Where did you have this work done, or did you do it all? Do you have time to post links? Thanks!
Thanks! I did all the work with my girlfriend and father
Considering buying a Catalina 25 that's coming up for sale at our local lake. Enjoyed the video! Any chance you might could elaborate on your electrical system? Stuff like battery capacity, solar panels, typical power needs or usage, and any of that? I always find that stuff interesting. Thanks!
Sorry, electrical is not my cup of tea. I wouldn't be able to explain it well. My father did all the electrical work. I have 100W of solar from 2, 50w semi soft panels, mounted on the bimini. And I have 2 deep cycle batteries that power everything. I also do get some charging from my outboard. I can power all my lights, stereo, autopilot and chargers all day.
Hi Brian, did you get your bimini from catalina direct? And did you have to raise the boom at all to make it comfortably fit?
No, this is just an Amazon Bimini. I found one that was the dimensions I needed. And, no, I didn't need to raise the boom or any other modifications
@@baisley22 Do you happen to remember the dimensions or link for it by any chance? thanks!

Hard to tell from this view, but that's a standard rig, correct? I wish our was a standard rig, the tall rig (maybe good for racing) really gets in the way of potential comfort while cruising or at anchor...
You're correct. We have a standard rig. I almost chose a tall rig, but was turned off by the lower boom height
@@baisley22 Last year, I tried raising the boom. I hoisted the mainsail to the top, then "reefed" it but by raising the boom instead of lowering and tying the sail. It worked pretty good...lots of people wondering why I was sailing with a "reefed' mainsail in great conditions...but my head thanked me! LOL
Always better to sail than scrub! Cheers... To a new season
Hey Brain thanks for the video. I'm restoring a 78 Catalina 25 and love the hanging locker. I kept wondering what I could do with that area and this is brilliant!
Thanks! I hated that space when I got the boat, and felt it was wasted and useless space
How many mermaids have you seen on this?
Nice boat.
Great set up!
Thanks!
no new videos? still got it?
I'm not a great video maker. I still got the boat, and sail it regularly. It's currently still stored for winter. I'm going to try to make some videos this season
Are you ready to sell? I'm interested.
Not even close
I like the wood floor in the cockpit. I would like to add that to my Catalina 25. Can you give anymore detail about how you built the wood floor?
I built it from scratch without plans. I used white oak, ripped the boards down to the thins strips, planed them, routered them, and sanded.
what is the depth of the canal? any near grounding? what is your draft? you ever feel like more horse power would have been a good idea? i am thinking of a shoal keeled boat w/centerboard vs swing keel w/ 15 -25 hp outboard .....wdyt?
The canal is maintained at 12 ft deep, what places can and do silt in occasionally between dredgings. I have a swing keel boat so I was only drafting about two and a half feet. So I never had to worry about groundings. My 10 horsepower outboard pushes my boat to Hull speed easily, more horsepower wouldn't have done me any benefits.
i looking for a boat to do the great loop but i want to do hull speed in any weather/current. what do you think of a second motor on the transum
I'd like to convert one if those hulls to hybrid system. It would make a good inland cruiser if you don't need to go fast and you could live on it.
I think it makes a great sailboat 😉
Where did you get the screen for your front hatch?
It came with the boat. I made a similar one with a zipper in it for the companionway
