meaningful worthwhile jobs paying respectable wages give dignity and pride. the coal industry along with various other industries should be prosperous and flourishing today. instead two bob jobs zero hours working. anyhow thatcher dead and gone turned to rust mining communities still alive and well.

An inquiry into what happened at Orgreave during the bitter year long miners strike on 18th June 1984 will complete the inquest into the Hillsborough Disaster five years later. The probe could reveal the corruption in the Met over the racist murder of Stephen Lawrence in 1993 and police misconduct over unsolved crimes including the killing of Jill Dando, the disappearance of Suzy Lamplugh and Andy Gosden and the death of the lecturer and anti-fascist activist Blair Peach who was the victim of police brutality at the National Front march that ended in a riot in 1979. And did Margaret Thatcher and the force protected Savile from prosecution as well as scandals as recent as Grenfell Tower? An inquiry into what happened in South Yorkshire 40 years ago will cause a major earthquake that could shake the establishment to the ground.

Wow that's the very first time I have seen or even heard of the Great Fire. What an interesting no that's not the word for this it's amazing and outstanding I was enthralled to see places and listen to this true story. They should make a film ( I mean a film with actors etc). You have made my afternoon and Thankyou to all of the people who explained this so well. I Appreciate your time and effort Thank you.

Just read the book and thoroughly enjoyed it. The author interviewed some interesting characters from Sunderlands past industrial glories. The tales from working on the South Docks and the shipyards were highlights.

Throughout the U K NOW is the need for what Heather Wood did during the Strike. We need to be extremely open to creating safety nets in all of our cities and countrysides. WE need to be truly Community. We don't need the useless jerks playing school yard games in Parliament. We need to take back the country from Oligarchs and the filthy rich.

Such a shame seeing how old willington is gone, like how down jubilee park theres random walls and fenceposts just burried in bushes. Or the old railway lines where you can still see exactly where the lines and stations were.

Teesside invented in 1968. The line was in Durham County (DC). The running of the first steam passenger railway service ran from Stockton (in DC) to Shildon (in DC). Darlington was a big market town in DC where wealthy mine owners lived, but Shildon was the collection area for Durham"s coal for transport from Stockton by sea via the river Tees..

Interesting & informative. Excellent photography job/drawings/reenactments. Enabling viewers to better understand what the orator/guest speakers were describing. Special thanks to the medical 🚑 personal. Medics/stretcher bearers risking life and limb tending to the wounded soldiers. So the over worked nurses could assist the doctors. Then continue with their thankless nursing duties. Assisting the soldiers to a full recovery. Not an occupation for the faint of hearted.

My grandmother, nurse Rosa Brain, was also awarded the MM for bravery in the field. I believe there were only aprox 137 of these medals given to nurses. She also went on to running her own nursing home and hardly spoke of her time during the war.

It's on the front cover of a history book issued to all school pupils around 1979 in Gateshead. God's judgement on a ungodly city sounds about right as it's not much better these days. Gateshead is a town, Newcastle is a city.
