I'm here to turn some wrenches on some cool cars and then pound on them afterwards!
e30 Power Steering Pump Rebuild Tutorial!
This is a step by step tutorial on rebuilding the ZF vane style power steering pump that came in the e30, e32, e34, e36, and many others. The rebuild kits are inexpensive, only about $40 from BMW, however, make sure to grab the part number or pump manufacturer off of the pump BEFORE you order your rebuild kit, as there are several different pumps that are all compatible with these cars and they all look identical until you go to install your radial shaft seal and it's the wrong size. The tools you'll need are a 13mm wrench or socket, and a pair of c clip pliers! should only take 30-60 minutes to complete the entire rebuild once it's off the car! Stop procrastinating and do this one already!

In this INstallment of the E34 Saga, the first part in a 3 part series, everything is back from powdercoating and replating and it's time to officially put this car back together. Let's get this bread! (OR spend it in massive quantities) If you're wondering about the budget for this week.... Let's just say it's alot. This is NOT a cost effective episode.
Rust Repair in the Fender Wells of My E34
Переглядів 5552 роки тому
Hey everyone, on this weeks INstallment of the e34 Saga I'm fixing some little rust spots in the fender wells of my e34. The roads in Montana are hard on cars and its important to get those spots taken care of before we get suspension back in the car! Another inexpensive project this week, I'm only into it one can of self etching primer, one can of brake clean, and one can of rubberized coating...
The Restoration of the Driver's Seat in my E34 (stay to the end to see before/after)

On this INstallation of the e34 Saga, I do a thing with a seat. This week I'm pullin the seats out of the 540 and repairing the classic seat twist that happens with pretty much every single old BMW with power seats. I'm also going to clean and condition the driver's seat! Keep watching until the end to see this epic transformation! This is yet another cheap project on the e34, the only thing I'...
My e34 driver's door has some slop

On this INstallment of the e34 Saga, I'm going to give my sloppy old driver's door hinges the business by replacing both of the hinge pins. This week's project was also VERY inexpensive, I believe the pin kits are about $10 each, putting me around $20 for this week!
Replacing the glovebox handle and cleaning the door sill trims on my e34

On this weeks INstallment of the e34 (that's right new parts two weeks in a row!) I replace my broken glovebox latch, overcome an almost certain death, and come back to remove and clean my door sill trim pieces! For the trim cleaning I just used an antibacterial interior cleaner from Advanced Autoparts, which actually works really well as you'll soon find out. Including the cleaner and the Genu...

Should make the music louder 😂 It's actually too loud hard to listen to you talking. But good video thanks
After the rebuild, is there any resistance when spinning? I have som resistance when i try to spin mine😅
There should be a tiny bit, but not too much. You should be able to spin it by hand
Can you provide the repair kit part number and where to order it
Check the body of your pump to see what manufacturer it is. If it is a Vickers pump you will need 32411133023, if it’s a ZF pump you will need 32411135880. Both kits can be found at any online bmw kits retailer or directly from the dealer.
Any chance to get the title of the jazz hip hope song? It’s hitting the spot. Thx
I will have to do some digging, I’m pretty sure I downloaded it online somewhere free
can you share repair kit no.?
Kokanee? Do they sell it down there now?
Montana: yes! Mmmmm Florida: no, sad face
great video. thanks. Hows the LSD diff holding up?
About 10k driven on it. So far so good!
Does a part of the pump wear out if it is making a whine noise & how can you fix that?
Typically they make the whine noise because they are leaking somewhere and cavitating from air being in the system. Considering the cost of the rebuild kit it’s worth having a go at it and you can inspect the internals once inside. The internals don’t usually wear, but sometimes the shaft bearing can wear out, which will show up as play in the pulley before disassembly.
@@adventure406 Thanks for the info
What part of the pump causes it to whine, does something wear out?
Currently working in a 535is with the same pump thank you for this video!!
Do you recommend this mod after all this time or not really?
I don’t have enough power to break my tires loose at will but I do get extra traction in slippery situations like sand, snow, and wet pavement. I’ve done about 10k miles on it and haven’t had any issues so overall yes would recommend for the price. There are lots of guys that have had poor experience with it so I’m also keeping my eyes out for the elusive oem 2.73 lsd just in case this one does explode.
Facci sapere se funziona
Great vid! Thanks for the refresher, I was able to knock it out in 15 minutes.
How did you remove the “triangle” part which bolts the pulley?
It is the main shaft which goes through the pump, has a little circlip where the vanes are that has to be pushed out. Once you get the circlip off the shaft will pull right out
Thanks a lot for the answer mate
Glad I just watched you video I just about dropped this whole thing on myself lol
Could have been problematic lol
Ik this 2 years old but thanks ur saved my ass getting the booty out of my baby
Hope to see more E34 content! I'm in the process of restomoding my 95 e34. Planning on repainting the engine bay pretty soon.
Thanks! I have content filmed but have been busy with my big boy job so haven’t had time to put it together. I’ve been driving my e34 since late January, paint is done and the thing looks ethereal.
I think you missed a big step, you didn’t pack the inside of the rubber bushing with grease. The shaft will be spinning dry inside and wear out the bushing.
I hand prime them with dex so there’s no dry starts
@@adventure406 lube isn’t going to get into the inside of the bushing. The bushing seals tight against the housing and the shaft, but inside they’re an empty void that needs to have special grease. It’s hard to explain, wish I could show you what I mean.
@@adventure406 how many miles have you put on since the rebuild? Just curious if there’s any leaks from the bushing pulley.
@@dohc1974 only a few hundred. No leaks yet still dry as a whistle. I used to be a dealer tech and I’ve done tons of these rebuilds with no come backs, so I’m confident in the process.
The seal has two elements, a sealing lip and dust lip. The grease between the dust lip and seal lip is mainly to stop contamination. The inner sealing lip will be lubricated by PS fluid
how did you pop out central pin that you mentioned in 4:00
Just give her some taps with a hammer and punch
@@adventure406 you saved me. I'm not familiar with mechanical. Thanks
@@EHLee1 hey no prob glad I could help!
Are you happy with the racingdiff lsd kit on your e34?? Is it the money worth??
I’ve got 4000 road miles on it and I have no complaints
thank you man you’re a life saver couldn’t find anything on this repair for an e36 but luckily the e34 has the same style pin
Oh noooo I didn’t sign up to keep e36’s on the road 😂
Where did you buy these from?
You can find them through the dealer, or look them up on realoem.com and then get them through fcp euro or ecs tuning
Hello, thank you for this explanation! Could you please let us know how it's holding up and whether you're happy with it? Thanks!
I’ve put about 4000 miles on it. It’s a daily driver and I haven’t had any issues. My slush box isn’t great so I can’t get the tires to spin on dry pavement but it will do 11’s in the snow or sand.
I wonder why mine doesn't work after I rebuilt mine. Is the reservoir fluid supposed to be bubbling around when the car is on? My fluid is just still and I turned the wheel lock to lock
When the car is running it should be clearly circulating fluid in the reservoir. There will be bubbles at first but they’ll eventually go away. As the system bleeds the air out
Bought another pump, but I realized I took the old drain plug out of mine and stuck another bolt in there because I messed up the drain plug. The bolt I stuck in there was too long blocking a passage. But I drilled it out because I also used jbweld. Going to re use the back half of this new pump and see what happens. Hope all goes well
This is exactly how I thought I had to replace it on my own e30 thanks!!
Happy to help you manifest your energy in your own shitbox collection!

How do you feel about this bumper 2.5 years later?
I did a review video on my channel you should check out. Long story short it looked cool but that’s where it stops. I ended up trading it for a stock bumper and trailer hitch and some cash.
@@adventure406 Thanks for pointing that out and sorry for the pain that you went through, but you're saving me from that as well so THANK YOU!
@@wesleycdn it ain’t much, but it’s honest work 😂
Awesome video, very informative, I am getting ready to tackle this repair today.
Good luck! I recommend taping off the fender and the door where they meet
I can’t see how you are removing the tumbler. I understand inserting the key and then what are you doing? Does the tumbler need to be in a vertical or horizontal position?
Doesn’t matter for the glovebox tumbler, key just needs to be in it. There are some plastic tabs on the back of the latch that hold the tumbler in
@@adventure406 thanks for your quick response.
@@adventure406 Thanks! Took five minutes to fix.
@@markmath2883 lol make you wonder why you didn’t do it earlier?

Doesn't impede the tail light or license plate?
It obscures the inner light on the tailgate, but not the outer on the body, and the license plate is partially obscured. I have a 33” tire.
Lookin good!!
Are you making a pass at me?
Yes the product appears to be well constructed but product support is non existent. I've had a defective wheel and bearing on mine and I've owned this for three years and haven't used it yet because of the defect. I called Viking solutions in an effort to get a replacement wheel and I was told that they dont supply spare wheels. Without the product support, this cart was a waste of my hard earned cash. Not a happy customer.
Well that’s no good! Did you try a generic wheel and tire like those sold at harbor freight?
@@adventure406 yes I’ve looked but the shaft on the cart is too big in diameter for any replacement wheel. I’m going to cut out the old axle and replace it with the more common 3/4” diameter shaft thereby allowing the use of replacement wheels. We see many replacement wheels in the various hardware stores but none that will slide on this axle. So I’ll change this axle out.
We went through the Wicks Tunnel with 3 Model T Fords in July and there was about the same amount of water then and a rock pile at the entrance that we had to move a couple of the big rocks and drive over the top. I was great trip.
Model T’s?! Man I bet that was cool. Glad you didn’t get stuck in there I imagine those old things would fill the tunnel up with CO pretty quick

Can you already say if its worth it? I am on the fence of byuing ...
I haven’t driven it much since the install and I’m currently in the middle of a full suspension/steering resto so once the car is back on the ground I’ll do an update video

Bummer! Thanks
I have the exact same bumper found from a direct importer. Mine was under $1k. Same issues. Stop tab breaking off, rusting, departure angle. Also the hitch receiver is tight and shallow, had to drill extra holes in the male end. Otherwise I think it is a good value.
Oh yea totally forgot about the shortcomings of the trailer hitch. I think this bumper has a time and a place, I take mine through some rough and gnarly stuff so I need that departure angle and the additional tongue weight freed back up. Went back to the oe bumper for now

Thanks for the tip
Very happy with mine in an e46 330ci, I suggest getting genuine bmw output seals, as mine leaked from racing diff
My experience with BMWs (which is vast I used to be a dealer tech and worked at an independent shop for awhile) is that anytime you touch a seal or hose you need to replace it and nothing is better than genuine BMW for that.
Nice video! Did you get your car lifted? What suspension and upgrades have you done?
Thank you! Yes, I have an old man emu 2.5” lift with spc upper control arms and slee diff drop. I have a tjm t13 front bumper, badlands 12k winch, cb, and pull out drawer system. The lift is the only mechanical modification I’ve done. I have since removed and sold the rear bumper with dual swing outs, as you saw in the video it wasn’t very good off-road and it was way too heavy
Awesome. Been looking for a video where this kit is installed into an E34. What can you comment after a few months of usage? Is it holding up? Does it spin both wheels on dry pavement?
I’ve only driven it a couple times since and they were pretty short trips because we were moving. Once we get settled I’ll be driving it quite a bit
Same question, what about now!?
Thanks for the review! I found one on offer up for $80 new in box in going to pick out up tomorrow.
Nice! Have you had a chance to use it yet? I've used it a couple times now and it really is a quality cart
Look at the Kaymar brand very high quality rear bars also made under Kaymar is the Ozbar bar Great AUSSIE MADE PRODUCTS. I purchased a Ozbar for $2650 for my 100 series Worth every cent Look into Kaymar👍 All Chinese bars are built to a budget and quality
I ended up trading this for a factory bumper and tow bar. I thought about doing either a dissent rear bumper or maybe just fabbing something myself
make sure you watch this before making decision ua-cam.com/video/BM4Seplbv5M/v-deo.html
Thx
That’s an impressive failure! I wonder if your experience is common? I have only driven my e34 to the grocery and back since installing this and only did one small burnout on the snow in the video so I haven’t had the chance to properly test it out yet
I'm pretty sure those clamps you installed at 10:50 are the wrong way round. They should be flush with the bumper when closed and yours seem to kinda stick out.
After adjustment There’s just enough room to get your fingers behind the handle. Installing them any other way (I tried) you don’t get the locking action
Great Review!
Thanks!
