      You can. use tweezers to gently remove the chrysalis. We've found using a low temp hot glue gun can help you adhere the tip to a branch or you can use a little clip of some sort. Make sure they are hanging vertically. Don't attempt to move them when they are about to eclose of course.

    Question: Did you mention when is the best time to prune the Crape Myrtle? Some people say after the flowers are gone, and others mention in winter. What do you think?

    • @rainbowgardenstexas5086
      @rainbowgardenstexas5086 Місяць тому

      Here in San Antonio, Texas, the best time to do any hard pruning is late winter/early spring. Around the end of February is generally a good time. If you want to do some light pruning by snipping off the spent flowers at the ends of the limbs once the main blooming period is over, that is okay, but not necessary. It's more of an aesthetic preference. Hope this helps.

    What did you put in the bottom of the pot to keep the soil from falling out the hole??

    • @rainbowgardenstexas5086
      @rainbowgardenstexas5086 2 місяці тому

      Nothing. I generally don't cover the drainage hole in pots. Especially because succulents can't stand overly wet soil. The soil was dampened before planting, so it wasn't dry and loose.

      @@johnjohnson1313 Terrific! Look at you! You fixed your own problem. Best of luck in the future, and hope you get a great harvest. Fertilize through September, than hold off through winter so new growth isn't susceptible to freeze damage. If you live here in San Antonio, you may need extra water through any periods of drought this summer. Good on you for making those extra drainage holes, those are key to success!

    I suppose it goes w/o saying that cacti/succulents don’t require as much water? Even in the hot summer months? And when mulching plants, would i move the mulch around to fertilize or add systemic granules? I’m always concerned that the mulch is a barrier. Thx!!!

    • @rainbowgardenstexas5086
      @rainbowgardenstexas5086 2 місяці тому

      Yes cacti and succulents will require less water. As for fertilizing, if using granular fertilizer it's advised to scratch it into the soil somewhat. Watering thoroughly after fertilizing helps it gets to the roots where it needs to be.

    I have a plumeria that is 6ft tall, I have to put it in the barn during cold weather, I do water once in a while in the winter, I did not know not to. Also my plumeria gets too much sun so I had to move it in partial shade. Will that hurt it? Thank you. Love Fannicks and Rainbow Gardens.

    • @MarkFanick
      @MarkFanick 3 місяці тому

      Hello, Sometimes a plumeria will get to much sun if it's still young and the bark is thin and green. That can cause sun scolding and blister the bark. Applying a thin layer of diluted water base paint will act like a sun screen. Also you could sleeve it with an old pair of panty hose or sun web fabric would work just as well.

    This is very good information. I grow plumeria here in Georgia zone 8 that I had shipped from Hawaii. Every winter I bring them into my basement then back out when minimum temps stay above 50f. I have even grown some from seed I got off eBay that are doing amazing. Sometimes we get rain for most of the month so the pots never really dry out, this has killed some of my plants. During really rainy months, I will move the pots out of the rain to let dry out.
