Born in Brooklyn, New York during the Depression, Shirley Kaufer knew at age three that she wanted to be an artist. One of her great, good fortunes was her first grade teacher's advice to her parents to enroll her at the renowned Brooklyn Museum's Children's Art School. These classes formed the foundation and discipline for the vigorous academic studies to follow.

Thank you for this film. I Ioved Shirley and Bill, and visited with them many times in their art-filled home (I lived directly below them for a time) in Pacific Palisades. Two beautiful and intensely creative people, and though I moved far away and haven't seen them in thirty years, I think of them often. I'll always cherish the portrait of me that Shirley was gracious enough to paint, and which gradually continues to reveal - as the years go by - my persona in ways that I myself was unaware of. To me, that's the mark of a great artist.

Boooooy did they sleep on you, Charlayne! I'm still a fan! I remember "Cindy", "Roots" ... "Ain't Misbehin". I do indie films. I'd write a film just for you if I even THOUGHT it were possible. Keep going, my talented friend!!! You've made it!!!! People know you and love your work. I'm one of them! PS: Let's not forget "Pose". ;)
