Let's reconstruct the Dom Church and its fascinating history (Utrecht, the Netherlands)!

00:00 Intro
00:44 Construction of the church
07:18 Union of Utrecht and the Reformation
08:44 Before and after the 1674 storm
Learn more about the hidden history of Saint Martin's Cathedral or Domchurch in Utrecht, Holland. After the renovation of the church in 2018-2024, the tower looks bright and beautiful again. We cover the history of the tower and church, starting in 1253, and via the Union of Utrecht, Desiridius Erasmus and its history of gay meeting place, we cover the most important world events the church has seen. We cover Desiridius Erasmus, Louis XIV, the sodomy (homosexuality) trials, and ofcourse the storm that was not a tornado on 1674. We finish off with a 3D reconstruction of the church as it looked before 1674, with a complete nave connected to the tower.
The 3D model is photographed and scanned in with Meshroom, and actually is just a 3D puzzle of the original tower edited in Blender afterwards. The puzzle is for sale here:

Hoi, mooie dronebeelden, helder verhaal.

Thanks, nice to hear. Just to learn; can you be more specific about things you think are incorrect? As stated in the description, numerous sources have been used for the information and to finish off a Dom Tower empoyee has fact checked the whole script. So we're curious about which parts are incorrect then?

Jan van Nassau has nothing to do at all with building the church. His statue is on the square because of the "Unie van Utrecht" (Union of Utrecht) in 1579. And by the way, he was not a clergyman but a brother of William of Orange-(Nassau). A very beautiful film!!!. There was a elect bishop Jan van Nassau from 1267 to 1290 but he was never ordinated . The first stone for the Domchurch was laid in 1254 by bishop Hendrik van Vianden. The Union of Utrecht was not signed in the church but in the chapter house, now part of the University of Utrecht.

There were 2 Jan van nassaus, one which was important during fundraising around 1285 (nl.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jan_van_Nassau_(elect), and one 3 centuries later who was also the brother of William of Orange. I agree that it’s not the smartest move to use the footage of the statue of William of Oranges brother for both Jan’s.

thank you so much!! great story told in a great way. i hope all stays like history left it to us, because not only I fears that rebuilding the ship will bring ego's forward that will demand to add their own signature, concepts, statements. we dont need that to be proud! but thanks again

Youre right. The french should never have colonised africa. They should have left them to get on with canabalism, slaughter neighbouring tribes, and witch craft. Some would even murder their own children because they though a fever was demon posession... A bit of perspective pls. The whole world was doing bad things..

Thanks for the feedback. William III later became King of England and also was later referred to as "stadthouder-king". But you're right he wasn't King at that time.
