The last shot in the episode was definitely a tease for people who had played New Vegas. I jumped out of my seat and pointed at the screen while shouting when I saw it :)

I remember when this show was first announced. As a big Fallout fan I was filled with trepidation. As the show got closer and they released some shots from the sets I was slightly less worried (but still very worried) since they looked really good and could've been picked straight out of the games. The relief I (and probably almost every single Fallout fan) felt after watching the first couple of episodes was beyond belief.

Amusing that you called the closing shot "underwhelming". Many fans were _thrilled_ by what it portends for Season 2.

When lucy enters the observatory, note that one of the guards that escort her in was also on the vault 31 raid. They were standing behind the kneeling prisoners. Also think back to episode one and recall only 3-4 people left with moldaver IMO these were her NCR crew the other raiders were hired cannon fodder. The Brotherhood are the true enemy? Well that depends on which game time you are in, early days they were doing good but as time went on, not so much' The experiments discused in the meeting are from the game. Did you catch that Barbs secretary was Betty. Hanks code was the release date of the first game. Norm IMO has many options to deal with Bud, Bud is very slow and fragile. Fallout 3 plot wise very much in line with lucys story so I would recomend that game as a first play.

It actually is the same timeline as in the games. The serias are also canon with the games. Lucys father arrived to New Vegas at the end and I recommend to start with the New Vegas game.

Good reaction for the finish. The change over time from Lucy's first "Okie Dokie" to the one at the end is like a reflection of the arc of her story. Now you need to play at least Fallout New Vegas and maybe Fallout 4, to prepare for Season 2, which will be set in New Vegas for the most part.

Moldaver is still around IMO because she had her own vault and Cryo pod, that is why she is still around and not a ghoul. She was rich and certainly could afford it. Also Cryo is not a vault-tec technology it is Robco, so she would not have a problem getting it. Pretty sure Betty poisoned the prisoners, they were no longer needed to create a crisis. When Norm hacks Bettys computer he uses the hacking ""mini game" from the games.

You have to suspend your disbelief with the Fallout food. It really doesn't make sense. Even canned food over like 10 years old is just going to break down into putrescent sludge. Perhaps the Vaults package food like new cans or deviled eggs? It doesn't make sense. In Fallout 3 you open up ancient food vending machines and get food that is safe to eat. There is no friggin way, lol. Let's also not gloss over the fact that in this episode there was a guy that very nearly blew his own head off because that is a common out in the wasteland for depressed individuals unfortunately. Then Thadeus happens to walk by, and the entire future of the "chicken f-ing doctor" changed. That sht sounds wild, but in the wasteland that's a Tuesday. I love the creepy feeling of "I wonder if they do this in real life" you get when you experience some kind of evil either from before the war, or because of it. People in such a bleak setting are looking at "F it" in the rearview mirror, lol!

This episode explains the origins of the gulpers but doesn't go quite as far as openly stating that the hybridized species that the science experiment in vault 4 created was a cross between humans and axolotls, which are known to be highly resistant to cancer caused by radiation. One small mystery answered; but the series still left many more unanswered. Like you, I want to know what happened to Moldaver. I'm hoping we find out more in season 2 which has already begun filming. Because that would mean we get more of Sarita Choudhury's great acting.

You are probably at least the tenth reacter that I have watched do Fallout. One thing no one has picked up on is the food issue. Lucy said that they have canned tuna in her vault, and in episode 2 , I think, she is seen eating deviled eggs out of a package. The 3 vaults have been sealed off from the outside world for 219 years, making the deviled eggs and canned tuna slightly expired I would think..... mmmm, tasty.

I think about whether I'm Maximus or Lucy in this episode. On the one hand, I really love creature comforts. Robe & slippers, welcome basket featuring Sugar Bombs cereal, cool media devices for music and movies... I could be Maximus. On the other hand, I've always had an almost fanatical sense of justice, an almost pathological need to discover wrongdoing, help those in need, and stand up for those who can't. I could also be Lucy here. If we played the game of "what would you do if you came to this vault," I can honestly say that I don't know. Shows rarely leave me this conflicted.

A typically obscure reference was included in that episode, in this case to the Dukes of Hazzard. Boss Hogg was played by Sorrell Booke; the guy who told the 'Sheriffs' to "feed him to the hogs" was named Sorrell Booker.

Getting into the episodes with some questions answered and, of course, more appear. We don't get all of them answered and so we'll have to wait for the 2nd season, which seems to have begun filming already according to rumors.

missiles were launched by the company that invented the vaults - basically selling end of civilisation as a product.

The implication is that whatever happened in vault 32 happened a couple of years ago and the vault 32ers were already dead when the raiders used Norm's mom's pip-boy to get into vault 32. When Norm and Chet enter 32's farm area with all of the dead crops, Norm says "whatever happened here, happened a long time ago." When he checks the corpse skewered by the foosball pole, the pip-boy indicates the last bio sign detected was 2 years ago. The bodies are skeletons or mummified, so have been dead a long time, not just a couple of weeks. Ma June's comment about Lucy having all ten fingers isn't true anymore. The robot was a version of the Mr. Handy household robot, but programmed to provide medical care. It was likely hacked to add programming to harvest organs. Primary function, fix Lucy's finger. Then secondary functions kick in to harvest organs. The voice of the robot is the same one we hear for Mr. Handy robots in the Fallout 4 game. We see and heard a Mr. Handy early in episode 1 as the birthday boy's mom walks past it.

The dog is Belgian Malinois not a German Shepard.

I think it was last episode (sorry listening to you as I play Fallout: London) but you said an alternate title could be Wasteland. Wasteland was a previous game to Fallout 1 by several years in the same genre (Post apoc in the American Southwest). I remember seeing Fallout in '97 / '98 in EB Games and thinking it was just a knock off of Wasteland...

Good reaction! Watch closely as the series progresses. Lucy's "Okie Dokie" becomes progressively less cheerful and more stoic each time she says it. It's a little thing, but it was perfect writing.

Radiation exposure can cause a mutation that turns people into ghouls. It's not by choice. After a while, ghouls lose their humanity and become feral, something like mindless zombies. The serum that prevents them from turning feral is new in the TV series and is not in any games.

Another fun reaction. Lady you don't understand says the stoner, no Lucy does not understand, unfortunately for you. Poor Lucy, she gets blood on her hands, levels up, and gets an armored vault suit upgrade. The Ghoul watching his movie, "you are strong, ugly and had dignity, Ill give you two out of three on that one" Indeed. Norm is for me by series end my favorite character.

The Yum Yum Deviled Eggs Lucy was eating were at least 219 years old. Apparently the Fallout world didn't have an FDA, so companies could load the food with enough preservatives to last hundreds of years. In the games you can find various packaged food products that are still edible, though stuff not found in a protected area will be somewhat radioactive. Cram is the Fallout world's equivalent to Spam. In the Extras on the Prime Video page for Fallout, there is an interactive look into the vaults which has like a living room in a vault apartment. On the wall is an advertising poster for Cram. "Cram - It keeps!"; Because you might not want to eat it today, but you might have to eat it tomorrow. Around the Commonwealth in Fallout 4, you find lots of Pink Flamingo lawn ornaments. There was one of those flamingos amongst the stomach contents of the Gulper after Max pulled Thaddeus out of its gullet. (weird game fan service)

I think having the east coast brotherhood of steel is a bit odd on the west coast but besides that I think it’s alright

The Ghouls medicine is not in the games, but IMO it is to keep him from becoming feral as mentioned in episode one. Feral ghouls have lost all their humanity. Max fails his barter check. The destroyed water chip is a callback to Fallout One, the reason you leave the vault in that game is to find a new water chip. The gulper died because it had swallowed the anchor and Max pulled it out. Does this suit block radiation? "Absolutely" NOT.

Maximus was beat up so often by the other aspirants that a few guys trying to steal the power armor didn't even phase him.

The wasteland has its own golden rule, thou shall get sidetracked by bull$#1t everytime....❤

"Wasteland" was a game that predated the first Fallout game. It was a huge influence on Fallout.

Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, and Fallout 4 are all great games to try out, if you ever desire to experience the source material. Get the PC GOTY versions of these games. Console versions don't allow you to install free game mods that update the games and fix bugs. Thanks for the reaction!

It's the year 2077 when the bombs fell, in the Fallout timeline. So much stuff looks 1950s because the concept for the games was Retro-Futurism - a branch of science fiction which is based on how people in our past imagined the future. It was a deliberate stylistic choice by the game developers, to show a world as if the 1950s Red Scare paranoia had come true and there had been a nuclear war with only the weaker kind and smaller amount of atomic bombs the USA and USSR had then, but set after our time to allow for fancy technology we don't have yet.

Glad you are watching and enjoying the show. The puppies under ten ounces were incinerated. CX-404 was underweight but Wilzig faked the log entry. Her name CX-404 means canine experiment not found. The sentry guns missed because in game they are not accurate at all. Wilzigs speech ' Will you still want the same things when you become a different animal altogether" IMO is the theme of the series. As you commented, the timelines are very loose in the TV series so don't assume things are happening when you think they are. For example, notice that Wilzig is wearing a dark jacket when he meets with Lucy a jacket he does not put on until the next scene at the cave when he tosses his lab coat. So IMO Wilzig is at cave dumps his jacket then meets Lucy that night then the next day or maybe even later Max and Titus go to cave. The Power suit is a practical effect, as are the vault doors. Yes there are more Ghouls than Cooper. (His pre war name) In game not welcome in most settlements. Ghouls are tough, heal wounds and are immune to radiation.

Great reaction The vault number is just its place in the total number of vaults, so at least thirty other vaults. The best decision IMO with the series was to lean into game logic, so many unrealistic things happen. The needle Lucy uses on herself is called a stim-pac and it restores your Hit Points in game and, also for Lucy. Lucys marriage application was very much like your game characters skills sheet. (Lucy has repair, guns, melee and science skill it seems) Did you catch Moldavers expression when Hank chose Lucy over the others, she knew that is what he would do. Maximus is Knight Titus squire. Squires are a knights servant so yes he is there to look after Titus. IMO the giant bag Max carries is a nod to the ridiculous in game inventory you have. This is usually given to your companions to carry. The Ghoul is the guy from the opening scene. Ghouls are primarily created by massive doses of radiation, (although in game there are other ways). They are very long lived and pretty tough.

there is a game called wastelands. it is reported to be the inspiration for Fallout.

At the start, the newborn puppies have to weigh at least 10 oz or they are incinerated. Dr. Wilzig saves one who is under weight. It isn't shown, but I sort of got the impression that the puppies are clones, maybe? I think the breed in the show is called a Belgian Malinois. Something like that. And, wow. I can't think of any other reactors, or many people at all, who know that the bugs were bigger when the atmosphere had a higher oxygen content for a while. Kudos!

Great reaction to a great show. I have loved all of the single player Fallout games and this show is an awesome tribute to them. It's great to see someone enjoy the show even though you haven't played the games. The show takes place years past the games anyway so we are taking in the show as it is. The characters they have in this show is such a reminder of the games, excellently done. I can't wait to see your reactions to the other episodes.

I think it's just as great that you didn't play any of the Fallout franchise before watching the series. A lot of folks are standoffish about getting into a new IP; it can be a whole thing. I can tell you that if you like the storytelling and feel of this series, then you will most likely be able to get wholly and happily lost in the Fallout games too, should you so desire. The characters in the series are all new, with the events taking place nine years later than the events of Fallout 4, which was previously the latest part of the timeline.

Nice reaction! Subbed. Those added sound effects were great. In answer to your question about time, the beginning takes place in 2077 and then the "current" parts are 2296. The Fallout aesthetic is 50's era tech extended into the future, so some things are 50's vibe and others are more modern looking but still sort of 50's.
