When you focus on Old Testament "sin awareness" instead of Jesus' love and charity awareness, young people refuse to become members since the "fear factor" is non-existent for them. The fear of "going to hell" as a basis for "running to Church" requires ignorance and a person who is basically fearful. Young people are basically not fearful people. They require intelligence, charity, and total acceptance of all peoples when they join a church. The present Methodist problem is strictly a "middle-aged" - "old-aged" situation, not a "young" person problem! I think God is "thinning out the non-Jesus people" in the church. Acceptance of gay people is a critical issue for the present church and it is my belief that the "new Christianity" will happen because of this issue!

The issue of "women pastors" makes this dispute ridiculous! We are not living in the 1800's or the early 1900's when women couldn't even vote. For the United Methodist Church to allow this ridiculous turmoil of an issue that was settled long ago shows the fact that the Methodist Church considers their constitution and even their total focus on the Old Testament more important than Jesus! The ultimate focus should be: "What would Jesus think!"

Has this issue been officially voted on yet???? How can the UMC require churches to “pay to leave” when the UMC is not upholding the other rules in the Book of Doctrine? If the official vote for/against LGBTQ clergy has yet to be held at a UMC General Conference, how can the UMC denomination already be considered as “progressives” and the traditional/conservative member/churches have to “accept” it or leave? I feel like I may have missed a piece of this puzzle. Someone please explain. Thank you.

It's unfortunate that there are situations in which churches believe they need legal representation to disaffiliate. This law firm has the right to offer these services to churches and to promote their services. I am concerned, though, that in some cases, churches have retained legal counsel without trying to negotiate in good faith with their annual conference. Churches have the right do retain counsel, but should do so only if good faith negotiations fail.

I've never understood how the parent denomination can think they own the local churches property. If the local church bought it, paid for it, and maintained it, it's the locals property. They should be able to leave any time they want. That is reason #1 why I won't attend a Reformed denomination.

Bishops cannot stop Methodists dissatisfied with UMC from becoming Biblical Christians.

Those leaving UMC should consider becoming Biblical Christians, because in doing so they can worship God at any time and in any place (John 4:23-24). No denominations or their buildings needed.

The churches that are leaving are homophobic. The split is about LGBTQ exceptence. They wouldn't have to leave if they would love and welcome everyone into the church. Stop try to do God's job.
