Where did you buy the bearing?
gday mate hope you see this message.... i came across this video when searching high and low to figure out how to fix my 2013 vegas 8ball starter . Couldnt believe it when it went .. started - i stalled as I hadnt ridden it for a while - had been riding my Trumpy a lot - went to restart and then that horrible noise... So your video and advice from Rylan has been invaluable... are there any tips you would suggest that you didnt cover off in the video? pulling the clutch pinion shaft any tips for putting it back in to ensure correct alignment? Do you have to remove the cap plate o-ring? Noticed your bike only done low miles, mine done 12k km! so really surprised but saying that ive had battery issues which made it a bitch to start and then also had a seriously fouled plug which made starting a nightmare so im wondering if extended engaging of the starter just puts too much load on that bearing?? Have you had any issues since repairing?? hope to see a response - youre only one that has posted up a video on this topic... thanks! Stu from aussie
Turned out great! Did this same mod on mine. Paid about $100 for the two glass packs total rather than $600+ for slip ons. Very happy with it! Love the sound
Morning, Are you still running with the glasspacks? I picked up a 2011 with what i believe to be stock debaffeled pipes on it. Way to loud for me so I'm getting some 2.5" x 12"l x 3.5OD . Just wondering is you still like the sound?
I just sold the bike with the glasspack. I picked up a Magnum and will be doing the same thing to it.
What did you use as a 'puller' ? The oil plug from a 85 Subaru (read it online in a couple of spots) or something else?
I was going to use the subaru oil plug bolt, but I went ahead and order this. Motion Pro 08-0086 Flywheel Puller M20X1.5 R.H. External Thread
I read guys had issues with the drain plug bolt. I did not want to take a chance.

I am inspired to try this on my crossroads, I never learned to weld so I will have to find someone for that. Is there a reason to extend the muffler, other than looks? Thanks
Just looks I wanted to keep it looking original thats all.
So I completed this and it was an interesting project. I have some pretty significant backfiring, did you experience it? if so what did you do to correct it?@@pedromoreno9684
I wonder if the burrs from cutting it open is what’s grabbing?
Awesome job, Pedro! Sounds so familiar!
Why are you changing that part, because your starter turns and the bike doesn’t crank?
Yes, the Starter Drive Clutch Bearing better known as "Sprag Bearing" broke as you can see in the video the old bearing in comparison to the new bearing. On the old bearing you can see the Paws are out of alignment, which causes the one-way drive gear not to engage causing the starter to spin not allowing the engine to start.
Thanks big help
@@renapolonio6713 did your bearing go out?
@@pedromoreno9684hey man my 2014 cross country with only 6000 miles on it isn’t starting an only makes a loud whirling noise when I try to start it. It’s not the battery and I tested the starter for power an it has power to it. Any idea if I’m dealing with your same problem ?
