It’s super hard to film this car outside. The lack of texture in the sky or objects around the car makes it insanely difficult to try to exhibit the depth in the paint. It also means that because it’s so bright all the colors get insanely washed out. So I figured I’d try my hand at some editing/ color correcting to try to bring it back to closer to what I see. Let me know if you guys like/ hate...

    Hi! I have a quick question. How often does your compressor engage? My air condition unit works perfectly fine, but the compressor engages/disengages every 8-12 seconds. Temperature outside: 35 degrees Air flow temperature inside: 7-9 °C I wonder whether that's normal behaviour for the air conditioning unit or whether a sensor or something is faulty.

    • @TakeFlightGarage
      @TakeFlightGarage 3 дні тому

      @@Martin-yi6py you might want to check the refrigerant level, when the level is either too low, or too high the compressor will kick on and off repeatedly. Most places will offer free system checks, so I’d start by contacting a shop that you trust to check the level. I hope that helps!

    • @Martin-yi6py
      @Martin-yi6py 3 дні тому

       @TakeFlightGarage Hi! Thank you for the answer. I have a climate machine at home and I have tried to fill the system with several levels of R134a... I started with 750 grams of R134a and I had these issues. I have lowered it to 450 grams and the AC works better (longer cycles). In neutral (1000rpm) the compressor doesn't disengage. Only if the RPM goes up to 3000, on the low pressure side the pressure decreases to 1,5 bar and the AC compressor disengages. After that (5 sec.) de compressor engages again for 10 or so seconds... But on your car, does the compressor engage once and does it stay engaged the whole time?

    • @TakeFlightGarage
      @TakeFlightGarage 3 дні тому

      @@Martin-yi6py sounds to me like your low side pressure is just slightly too low, it should be closer to 2 bar or 30 psi which is the low side fill pressure. The high side should be 150 to 200psi. My compressor does not engage and then disengage it stays on as long as I have the ac button and recirculation buttons engaged.

    • @TakeFlightGarage
      @TakeFlightGarage 3 дні тому

      Make sure it’s the right weight of oil, the right weight of refrigerant, the right components for a 134 conversion, and that there are no leaks or nothing is frozen like the expansion valve. If the pressure is too low or too high, a safety switch will shut off the compressor.

    • @TakeFlightGarage
      @TakeFlightGarage 5 днів тому

      @@AK_918 You’re right in that there’s two different part numbers. However from what I understand it’s not the stiffness, one is meant for the cut a strut insert and the other is meant for the replaceable cartridge. The part number I ordered was 8641-1038 sport. The other part number is for the 87+ cars 8641-1414. There’s actually a physical difference in that the later cars have that little nut on the bottom. It’s meant to lock the cartridge in place when using the cut a strut on the later cars as you’re supposed to drill out a hole in the housing for the nut to fit through, so that a bolt can be threaded in from underneath.

      @TakeFlightGarage 5 днів тому

      @@ireiaand tell him you’ll take it as is without the fuel lines (you can then just buy the rennbay kit for I think like $90-$130 and have your chance to wrench on it. That’s the only thing that’s a bit weird about him listing the car for sale if he’s not really ready to sell it Yanno? The over budget part is tough but I’ll give you the same advice I gave to another viewer in Germany who’s shopping for an S2 (out there those things are selling for 25-30k) don’t stretch yourself super thin on buying the car in the first place, because something can always happen and it would suck for you to spend a ton of money on a car only to immediately have to have it sit. Since he’s taking forever to do things like the fuel lines you can use it to your advantage to save a bit more money in the meantime to put you in a bit of a better position to buy it (say after a couple more paychecks or something) but in the meantime I’d still keep looking because a better deal might pop up.

Yea I think especially as a first car I don’t want to spend too much acquiring it, this one is currently at 22K still a good price just might be too expensive for me. I’ll have to see later this week when I talk with my parents as they’re helping buy the car, maybe if we can get it down to the higher teens it might be better for us. This sounds like a great idea! I think making it much easier for younger students to get into a school. I think one question would be would the corse be online or nearly make it into a school that people come to most days?

    • @TakeFlightGarage
      @TakeFlightGarage 11 днів тому

      That’s a great question! So there’s a lot of well established courses through different brands and companies as an example King Schools is a big one, Sportys pilot shop has courses for every rating, those are all independent courses that are all online, and it’s meant to work together with your in flight training. I don’t think that would need to change because the same way that you can take a physics 101 course at ASU or a physics 101 course at SDSU, it all still ties into the same overall (pizza of knowledge) if that make sense 😂. Two slices of what is ultimately on the same pie. When you finish these courses you actually do need to present a certificate saying that you’ve completed the course to the testing administrator when you go to take your written exams. So at least for the online stuff you could still pick whatever school or brand you’d like to go with and do that part of it from a laptop or pc at home as long as the flight school you’re training at approves!

      @@ireiaand it’s actually wild but my theory is that flight training just was never changed in how it was done dating back to the Second World War, and it just never progressed the same way other things happened to. Who knows! 🤷🏻‍♂️ You’re definitely right in that flight schools like 61 and 141 schools ultimately are just privately run businesses, so students are really seen as “customers” which is crazy. They’re literally called schools and students but it’s treated the same as people selling the information needed to fly. Imagine walking into a grocery store and buying a rating off the shelf 😂😂😂. It’s a wild concept!

    • @ireiaand

      @@TakeFlightGarage hmm I mean I guess that would make sense as planes sorta have the same basic function so you just need to teach it. One tool I think is overrated / waste of money is the specialized 944 belt tensioning tool. It’s really not needed at all to do the timing belt. The tensioner pin wrenches are handy but not the tool that measures belt tension. The flywheel lock is a pretty handy tool to have. weed wacker trimmer line is handy for clearing those body drains as I show in my video. You need a long 6mm Allen for the cam tower and a set of triple square bits for quite a few things. 17mm Allen for diff drain plug.

Carbon Steel Chinesium vs German Aluminium. Who do you think won? My brother actually called me yesterday, he is redoing some sport seats. As far as the paint goes solid colors are single stage and the metallics and pearls are clear coated. If you have a solid color with clearcoat it has been repainted. One thing to look for in a repaint of Gaurds Red is did they get the color correct? There are two different Gaurds Red, very close but different. There is a pearl white available but I have never seen one in person, but it would be interesting.

    Job hunting, dating, buying homes and cars... it's never fun dealing with the market. When I purchased my 944 i was blessed to stumble across an honest seller. I didn't bother to negotiate price as it was fair and I wanted to encourage more of that good in the world. Although I can't imagine what's worse, being a buyer or being a seller having to deal with all those low ballers, test drivers, and tire kickers lol

  • @ireiaand
    @ireiaand 26 днів тому

    Exactly what I needed! Have been looking at a good few on Facebook marketplace, some sellers definitely seem very sketchy to be giving my cash to… so I completely agree with shopping the seller and if they seem sketchy the car might be too. Just found a very nice 1987 944 base model with 2 owners and 67k miles in the same colour as yours! Been sitting on marketplace for the past month at 18 grand, what do you think? I would assume a car like this probably would need a lot of the rubber replacing just due to age? Just asking this as the engine bay looks quite original, very clean but the seller hasn’t said if he’s done any work to it…

    • @TakeFlightGarage
      @TakeFlightGarage 26 днів тому

      At that point it’s all up to the overall condition of the car, if the paint is very clean no scratches, no tears in the leather, and all that stuff, then that price I would consider very fair with only 67k. That’s pretty darn low mileage for a car this old, especially if the car is in crazy good shape. But t doesn’t hurt to reach out to him and ask some questions! Rubber will be fine until it needs to be messed with, that’s when it’s gonna start to break. If the car was kept inside esp in a climate controlled environment then everything should be preserved rather well. The only big thing that’s gonna be in your future on that car would probably be a clutch.

    • @ireiaand
      @ireiaand 26 днів тому

      @@TakeFlightGarage hmm okay thank you for your opinion! Yea the car basically looks like it rolled off the production line yesterday, seems to be in superb condition! Ahh yea haha suppose that makes sense, hopefully it doesn’t need everything messing with might have a look at it soon! But yea the low mileage might also be something to look at as I’ve heard these cars don’t like to sit and start to have a lot of problems from going as a garage queen to a daily driver…

    • @TakeFlightGarage
      @TakeFlightGarage 26 днів тому

      @@ireiaand I probably wouldn’t use it as a daily honestly just because it’s in such great condition mainly because everything’s gonna drive you nuts like where you park it scratches dings all that stuff. There’s a def a level of paranoia I have about my 86 that I never had about the 83. If you baby the clutch it should have plenty of life left but you’re right about the cars not liking to sit. Could cause fuel problems etc. But I will say if this is legit like a concours level car 18k does sound like a pretty good opportunity for it to be a forever car. They were meant to be driven so throwing miles on the clock was never a big deal to me, but it’s all the other daily aspects I’d be worried about. Here’s my .02; If you’re looking for a daily to get to and from school/ work/ college, I’d shop for something in the 12-14k max mark, with deals that are still out there for closer to 10 (944 values are all over the place it’s annoying lol) and I’d basically keep that extra cash in your account for “emergency” purposes like an oopsy daisy clutch job. On the other hand, if this is gonna be a car that you intent to keep forever and the oncoming maintenance isn’t too big a worry because the car can be down for a while, won’t be driven hard or far everyday but will still see some moderate use, then you can own it comfortably and not really worry about the financial aspects of things. If everything’s original on it once you subject it to daily duty it’s definitely gonna show its age. When I cover all the modifications I’ve done to my car I’ll make sure to include a closing piece talking about where I spent money on mine and why and how someone might be able to take a more inexpensive car as their first car and do all those mods and have a very solid setup without having to worry too much about what is/ isn’t gonna break in the future.

    • @ireiaand
      @ireiaand 26 днів тому

      @@TakeFlightGarage I appreciate the detailed response! Yea I definitely feel that this car perhaps may be “too nice” for a daily, perhaps one that has been used moderately with maybe 100-140k miles that’s had those old parts wear out and be replaced might keep the car more affordable to begin with before it requires a full array of things due to wearing out with age. The 944 would be my first car ever, I’m not sure if I would have it forever perhaps down the line I would like to get my dream car a 62 bug (a lot less cooler but I love them) but I may fall in love so much with the 944 like you have done yourself and not feel able to ever let it go haha. Might just have to get more garage space… Overall tho, looking at what you have said the car would typically do 14 miles a day just to school and back, hoping to find the best example I can, as then hopefully it won’t have problems that ones that have been neglected may have (unsure of everything that can go wrong with them, but things like timing belts possibly causing damage due to not being replaced frequently could be a sign I’m hoping to avoid all together) My budget for one of these guys is probably somewhere below 20 perhaps might see if I can find a turbo for a good value as that would be a dream but I’m sure I could find a great base model too that can still hold up to daily use. Not going to drive it too hard like track days or anything perhaps just spirited driving on occasion. One thing that’s slightly unfortunate is I won’t be able to store the car in a garage but I do have access to a clean driveway and I’ll get a cover to have it in every night to hopefully keep it in the best condition! I appreciate your response and it’s definitely helping when making choices on getting that first 944 definitely will be talking to my parents about the information you have given me! And I’ll most definitely watch your future videos on it!

      @@ireiaand I think that’s an excellent idea. All of those are spot on 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻. Depending on the age of the belts it’s your decision if you want to drive it or not. Both times I bought my cars I decided to just have them shipped home. It was about the same distance 5-6 hours or around 300 miles. It’s up to you to have it shipped home that’s personal preference, I’d budget around $500-$600 to have it trucked home. Just remember that every car is different so I can’t give you exactly what to expect or guarantee anything, but hopefully with all the info you’ll have all the ammo you need to make a well informed decision!
