This movie is a parody of 1960s movies. It's parodying the confession scene trope LOL

You know, the funny thing about me watching this, is i kinda figured she know he was faking his identity during the relationship and she was playing along, and yet i was still surprised by this plot reveal as a whole.

This monologue is so good, I don’t even mind it’s told in whispers.

Not only is this a great spin on the “liar revealed” trope by also having her reveal to him and the audience “actually, I haven’t been honest either”, but the fact that Zellweger did this whole three minute confession monologue in just one take! That is just brilliant🤣🤣Ewan’s face at the end says it all

The more i look back on this, this can either be the most diabolical plan to get a boyfriend in the most romantic manipulative way or.... nope this is that, GOOD GOD WOMAN! Not even the CIA or FBI has plans that are this intricate or go this deep!

Fun fact, Renee Zellweger was almost cast as Satine in Moulin Rouge alongside Ewan McGregor. So Down With Love is the closest thing to a Renee/Ewan Moulin Rouge movie pair that we have.

One of the most convoluted and stupid plot twists I've ever seen. The rest of the movie was fun though.

I agree but I’m letting my morals slide as it’s a rom com and also, she did something he would’ve done for an exposé

Oh she is definitely psycho. But this whole movie is a satire of old school 1960s-ish rom coms. So the big reveal being extra crazy and psychotic is just the cherry on top to a great movie

Bad casting. It’s too contrived in its blatant attempt to be like an early 60s Doris Day type love story. Zellwiggle just doesn’t have it. The central idea just falls flat. This costs 35 million and made 37 at the box office. The male lead doesn’t have it either! He’s too short, thin, and just not natural. His acting isn’t suave like Hudson or Garner, he’s one dimensional . He’s not naturally good looking either. Couldn’t he do something about those moles? And the Scottish accent! Doris Day was a star in movies for years her rep was well established. Plus, she was talented and cute. Renee was none of those things. And whoever believed this woman to be a great comedic talent, or a bubbling sex symbol? Huh? There isn’t any reason to care one bit about these two characters. There are Low budget love stories have been successful in getting you to care about the male and female leads! Not here! These two wooden characters have no chemistry. Did they even like each other? The look of the film has the color and setting of an early 60s film of this type. Great job on that. People walked out of the theater. Others left at the end quietly. What does that tell you? What a bad title, Down With Love. The explanation of the book in the film’s story just doesn’t make much sense. In fact, that is rather hinted at within the film itself! By the way, David Hyde Pierce, casting, and acting: right on the money! His part is a homage to Tony Randal with his own charm and acting chops! He lights up the screen. But he can’t carry the film by himself. Yes, Tony Randal, who looks horrible, is in the movie. He is listed in the cast. But it’s a one and a half minute cameo! Even that was a failure! Don’t bother watching this!

Just because you didn’t like it doesn’t mean you have to write a thesis in the form of a UA-cam comment trying to convince others it’s bad. It’s inspired by Doris Day romcoms, but it’s no imitation. It lives and lifts itself on its own charm, and don’t you dare insult Ewan McGregor. The moles are charming. Makes him more than just one dimensional handsome.

You think Ewan Mcgregor isn't handsome. He could do whatever he likes to me and I'm straight.

    • @sabrinashelton1997

I wholeheartedly DISAGREE. Ewan Macgregor is great in this. Who cares about his height, which is average or his weight, which is normal and healthy. He has the confidence, charm, and sex appeal to make his character believable. Sexiness is not often about the most perfect physical specimen. Renee is quirky and very cute. I really don't get what you're on about. If you don't like the movie, okay. I thought it was very cute, and really unique and different than anything I've seen.
