I work in elder care. To dementia patients, this IS their reality. Correcting them and arguing with them about the “truth” will only agitate them. The best way to handle it is to play along and redirect. This is their reality. So either we are lying, they are lying, or they just “woke up” and 30 years have passed

I can't believe people just expect girls to "deal" with period pain. Stuff like this can be going on and, just like in the show, moms and dads and teachers never take it seriously. They think we're using it as an excuse. Ovarian torsion is one of the most painful things. Omg that poor girl. And a cyst the size of a softball? Holy cow!

It's funny because everything she's doing is standard for people with dyslexia. (Her personality is more autistic and these two things do not go hand in hand) Dyslexic people are usually not considered to be smart because of the learning difficulties from dyslexia. People don't understand their spatial reasoning skills are often far superior.

Ovarian cysts are the worse. When my ovarian cyst first got noticed, the doctors sent me home with meds and stated it would heal on its own. I was in so much pain and feeling so cold. I went back to another ER and there they ran all types of test. It was an ovarian torsion. The ER doctor said, “ the tissue had died due to lack of blood supply.” My blood pressure was so high and I went into a state of shock. My right fallopian tube/ovary were removed in February of this year. I just didn’t understand why the other ER sent me home, with the amount of pain I was in. I had to get help walking into the hospital because my right side and abdomen was hurting so badly.

I knew 2 people who were gifted and being labled gifted was the WORST thing ever happened to them. They were narcistic because they were kept being told they were so smart and special but gave up the minute they were challenged in anything because it was so easy for most of their lives. When i knew them, neither could finish even a year of university. They even tried to school me in my area of expertise, which i have a postgraduate degree for. I cut ties when they kept bombarding me with contradictory information they gleamed from the internet without systematically studying the subject like i did. I now have a very annoying habit of stating my credentials when i explain things because of them. Being gifted is a double-edged knife. Some people thrive while others, like the 2 i knew, crashed and burned so hard.

Genius here. Kids don't know why they're different, they just know they don't fit in -- and frankly they shouldn't be expected to fit in. Guides and mentors make a huge difference. Encourage curiosity and support independent study. A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

Brings back some painfull memories when my grandma got diagnosed with dementia. Ive spent entire days with her just watching tv or talking and joking. About 8 months later before she passed i went to the hospital for a visit and when i left she said i know i dont remember much about you but i do remember i love you. I said goodbye went to a bathroom stall and just crashed and cried.

We had a sweet lady in the nursing home, every day at supper, she'd start looking for her husband, and get really upset because she couldn't find him. We just told her he had to work late, and we're saving him a plate. That settled her down, and she'd forget all about it. They hired a new nurse who thought all these folks needed a 'reality check', so one day she told the woman "He's been dead for 10 years, and you know that." We ended up putting the woman under sedation, she was so distraught and hurting so much. These poor people have no reality, they live in their memories, that's all they have left. They deserve to live with what made them happy.
