At this point what comic publisher can someone actually go, because this whole industry is either entitled or corrupt. Marvel and DC, they’re the big 2 and they don’t do submissions. The next big one is Image Comics, they do have submissions but guess what, they’re submission page is really vague and they don’t even look at submissions because they don’t like the idea of new coming creators. Dark house, in a weird situation might be the best one available but probably is entitled as well. IDW Publishing, really corrupt, don’t pay on time, they take your work if you submit to them. Boom! Studios, Vault Comics. They surprisingly don’t take submissions for no reason. Now Scout Comics, apparently from this video they are a bad organisation. So in general, there’s no publishers that can help you in today’s world. Entitled and corrupt.

My biggest regret with the series (and its embarrassing to admit) is that somehow two very important pages were lost in issue #4. These pages caught our friends up once they reunited & we add layers to what was built earlier. I have no idea what happened to these pages. They were either cut with editorial or I accidentally submitted a curtailed draft. Every other mistake is livable lesson learned and acknowledged not be repeated-- I can live with those. But the mystery with those lost pages, that's a rough one for me. Grateful for you both doing a deep dive on this one! Glad to see this old book is still finding folks! Thank you for this!

I know a lot of creators are naive but I have no idea why anyone would want to work for any publisher in 2024. Especially after seeing the 60-70 year history of Marvel and DC screwing creators over year after year and the smaller publishers following in the big two’s footsteps with the same abuse. The comic book industry was built on taking advantage of creators. Do your research and learn the good side and dark side of the business before making a decision to work for them. Remember companies are here to make money off of you always

I looked into scout because they adapted the work of an author I liked, but I saw that they were really trying to sell the fantasy of getting a comic turned into a movie through their Hollywood connection. That was a red flag.

I don't know what the point of a publisher is if they're not going to market/promote the book or pay you for the book... you're better off publishing it yourself if you have to do everything yourself anyway. Also, I watched the Max Hoven video when all this originally went down, and while I see his point that running a business is hard and not always profitable, I'm sorry, that's not an excuse for running said business this way. Creators are providing product for this business, and to put their payments last is insane. If you ran a restaurant but didn't pay vendors for the food they ordered and justified it by saying "Well, we're a small business and not very profitable, so you have to understand that we can't pay you and bear with us" you would be laughed out of business. Also, the idea that they take any profits they do make and use them to order more stock is EXACTLY how companies maintain claims that books "haven't made a profit yet" and therefore don't owe royalties. It's a scam that movie studios and publishers have used for years

I've read a few of Scout's titles, and before hearing of all this I noticed some odd stuff with the variant covers. It's really unfortunate that those involved got done dirty, whether by accident and on purpose. Even with all the ways of communicate these days the inability for companies to communicate with the people that make the comics is inexcusable. Nice video you too!
