So people know, this is not a fridge/freezer dedicated side product. Either side can be the fridge or freezer as you choose.
You're right, I should have mentioned that in the video!
Who makes the chimney?
@@Austin-n7q I think it's all part of the alucab gp factor fitment kit for the Dickinson heater
I first heard about this when the movie came out.
Your video was well produced and enjoyable. Over the years, my wife, Carol, and I have spent a considerable amount of time at Caprock Canyons State Park. We have a Lance truck camper and CCSP is one of our favorite places in Texas to camp! May God bless you both and keep you safe as you travel.
@doughutchison6382 thank you!! We try hard to bring entertaining and informative videos that tell a good story about the places we visit. GOD BLESS!!
Nicely done review
Glad you enjoyed it!
What's the dimensions of the 60 split ?
Ill have to go measure. It's almost the exact same measurements as the 60/40 seat split.
Great Video bud! Ive driven thru there, beautiful area! Thanks for sharing!
@sempergumbie thanks maybe next you're in the area we can all go out there
I wonder what the power consumption would be on 12v? It will be different for sure. I will run mine at 31 on the big side… and 36 on the small side. I’m also in Texas. But winter is coming up too.
@texasgrillchef8581 yea they always take more power than I expect in texas. I live here too .lol
👏🏽👏🏽
I wonder if you’ll be singing this song when you get the recall and have to remove everything off for a new engine install. It seems they have to remove the cab to change the engine I also have a 24 Tundra with Alu Cabin. Hopefully this recall doesn’t affect 24. Nice rig by the way!
I have nightmares about that all the time. We shall see my friend!!
nd our other rig is a 2014 Tundra with an Alu cabin on it. We did a lot of upgrades and stuff for it. It's on the channel if you want to check it out.
@@OverlandTrailsAdventures I did. I’ve subscribed a few months back. I have mine on my channel as well. Cheers
Good job. I am also considering this on a slide behind driver seat of a tacoma but concerned the door won't open enough to provide good access. Any thoughts on that?
@KentWood-OptimizeUTennis You might want to consider a smaller fridge like the apl55 or even the apl35 to save the room in a small back seat.
Great video Bud!
When you’re 2000lbs over gvwr yes they’re absolutely worth it.
@@Gazziza29 lol just a little
so you don’t show how to mount the arm you missed a bunch of points useless video
Looks great and very affordable.
Thanks, I love how it turned out!
Thx for the overview. Curious why you didn’t switch it with the Redarc? How’s it held up inside the bag?
@sfbigdawg not sure what you mean about switching it with the redarc. The water heater is on the mount joolca sales and the bolded to the mollie panel.
@@OverlandTrailsAdventures I think I was thinking you used the Manager30 to switch everything off and on from a central control panel. Was thinking you could use that for switching the pump off and on as well so you didn't have to go inside to the switch.
@sfbigdawg that's a great idea but i dont have the vision system. Back then, I was not so advanced..lol Now, on our new rig, I programmed the redarc rougue to control the starlink..lol
@@OverlandTrailsAdventures I'd like to see that. I've been debating mini vs standard starlink.
@@sfbigdawg I did a video on it a few weeks ago. We didn't go with the mini due to mixed reviews about reception.
Good job! I would have mounted another board in the middle then you could mount your max trax holder vertically freeing up a bit more space for other things
@briancruickshank9828 I'm thinking of adding a middle t slotted board. I'd love to mount virtical, but then I couldn't reach the top pins. We are 5.6 ft..lol
@@OverlandTrailsAdventures you could get a fold flat step or lightweight telescopic ladder
Nice aluminum work, the only thing that I would do different is I will try to follow the contour (curve) of the camper remember it is a reason of that curve even know it is very high that way you won’t change the departure angle, and if you follow that curve it will look nicer from the sides
hey, good insight. I was trying to get as many rack extensions as I could. The departure angle should never touch this high as it would mean the truck is about to tip over backward or I'm dropping off a high shelf which would break the suspension. lol Hopefully I'll never be crazy enough to do either..lol
Helpful to see some numbers, thank you. But for the record you have a mistake in using units correctly. Watts is a measure of power at a moment in time. It is already a rate (joules/sec) and watts/hour does not make any sense. I see this in a lot of reviews which is not ideal when it is trying to be presented as scientific testing. Watt-hours is quanity of energy consumption over a period of time. It used a total of 341 watt-hours during the 12 hour test. So it used 28.41 watt-hours/hour not 28.41 watts/hour. You could state that energy consumption during your test was equivalent to a 28.41 watt constant load for 12 hours. Because of course 28.41 watts for 1 hour is 28.41 watt-hours and 28.41 watts for 12 hours is the 341 watt-hours consumed. Still got some good info from you here and that thing does seem to sip power under not easy conditions.
@ryanmcq1213 hey thanks for the help. I'll apply that next time I test something electrical.
Looks good Bud!
@clintrudd9588 it's the rack extension for short people like me..lol
Id silicon all the gaps inside. Somethings will eventually leak.
I always appreciate an honest review. Many people won't share the things they did wrong in a build, Toyota has let a lot of people down in the new Tundra. I love the build mate, with the exception of the new Tundra engine. The style of the new Tundra is great. The interior looks really nice
@jeffreyscott4564 Thanks!! It's a big step for us in hopes of being able to do more long-term trips.
I agree. I have a 2012 Tundra, but there is zero chance I will buy a new Tundra as currently configured. I'll be in the market in about 3 years or so. Maybe they will revert back to something similar to what I have now.
@@tommyg5346 we can only hope they will listen to the market!
Great looking rig. Yeah, engine power and weight carrying capacity are a big negative with the Tundra. I wish Toyota would make HD trucks. Did you upgrade the brakes? I built something similar on a 2022 Ford F250 Tremor 7.3 Liter gas truck with a Mits Alloy Evo 2 flatbed and a Supertramp camper. I looked at the FWC Hawk as well, but at that time I was not ready to go flatbed. That came a little later down the line. Lead times on a Bowen Customs bed were so ridiculous so that I went with the Mits as well. Overall, the Mits is a good flatbed, but I hated how unnecessarily tall the Mits made the camper sit. I had my local shop lower the bed to reduce the overall height. I am so glad I did. Yes, I lost the drawer, but the truck handled so much better when driving. If I would have kept the drawer there were still about 2 inches that the height would have come down. Mits was not very helpful when my shop reached out. Fortunately, my shop was able to make their own mounting brackets. I used the Torklift steps as well. Great choice. I put marine-grade "carpeting" onto the steps and also added the Pet Safe option. Made it easier and more comfortable to walk up and down. My new rig is going to be a bit different (Rossmonster Baja), but I want to travel and work full-time from the road and neither my Supertramp or the FWC were sufficient enough. Would love to hear how you work from the road and all that good stuff. See you down the road ...
@@dtadventure4x4 just upgraded to power brakes and love them.
Nice rundown on the build. I wonder if the Hybrid powertrain would have been more suitable given the extra weight.
@Johno530 I was told by a toyota rep the hybrid would have been better for the low end torque.
Great video, thank you! My built is 1,400 pounds over payload and I do not have a power issue, but I have the 3rd Gen TRD PRO which comes with the hybrid engine, although I took a hit on gas averaging 11.2 MPG which honestly I expected, which engine is in your limited?
@@AramSahakian-q5i I'm at 2k over and was told I should have gotten the hybrid.
Thank you for your honest maybe blunt assessment of the new Tundra. We chose a Ford F-250 which has a generous payload capacity and has been a reliable workhorse that needed minimal modifications. Ford does not yet have the proven or perceived quality that Toyota has earned. We have a 2019 Hawk and it's pleasing to see that FWC is continuing to improve its product. I especially like the upgraded heater/water heater, stove, sink, electrical upgrades / options and my favorite under bed storage! I'm curious if the aluminum internal structure needed for the roof actuators interferes with inside use of the camper.
@stephenkramme7063 hi nope, we actually are looking to use to hang stuff on..lol
Amazing Rig! It was great meeting you and seeing this truck in person at Rigs and Coffee.

They want $250 to ship it any faster than 2 weeks. LOL. No thanks.
@@SOLDOZER outch nope..lol
Shoping for a 12v. Boondocking for 2-3 at a time. Just me. Power 600w base + 100watt solar panel. Is this an acceptable 12v fridge for that? I dont really need the dual zone, but I really like the aluminum for me re: carrying. I just sent back a 35l Camco due to temp issues and poor craftsmanship. Thanks.
@@barbshubert9667 that should run the fridge just fine. You will want to test which settings for max and eco work for you.
@@OverlandTrailsAdventures Thank you. You may not be able to answer this, but are you still happy with the performance of the APL35?
@barbshubert9667 We are!! It's not perfect but it does what it says and does what we need it to. We use it as a freezer and it keeps meats and icecream solid.
@OverlandTrailsAdventures thank you
Awesome build! What did you use for the sliding door panels?
Hey this was a review of Al's rig. You can reach him on the channel sponsored by wifie. Have a good one!!
What if this is my only fridge I'll be running in my rig? I have a 4runner looking at this or the apl55. What do you recommend, TIA!
@notoffroading I also have the apl55 that rides in our other tundra in the alu cabin and love it. I would look at the space you have for it, how long your trips will be, and how much food/drinks you want. For example , we had the 75 lit. I loved it but was just too big for our space and travel. We down sized and just stopped more to fill back up. For our new rig (fourwheel camper), which has a built-in fridge, we just want a small dual zone for drinks and meats/ ice cream..etc..
@@OverlandTrailsAdventures thanks for the fast reply! I have room for both, I like that the apl35 is lighter but love the capacity for the 55. I'm doing a trip to Utah for 2 weeks so that's why I'm thinking the apl55 is the way to go but ultimately I wouldn't mind the 35
@notoffroading with that info, I'd go for the apl55, on the slider. Sounds like you won't be as happy with the 35. The 55 is a better trip fridge for what your doing anyways.
@@OverlandTrailsAdventuresthanks for the help!!
@OverlandTrailsAdventures does the apl55 consume alot more energy than the 35?
Dang it, I have one coming with the cover and I wanted to get the Iceco 250Wh battery to go with it but now Im not so sure..lol.. Some say 6-10 hours, some say 36 hours... Talk about analysis paralysis..I think Im just going to get a 500wh battery pack and be done with it.. Thanks!
@@drewpknutz1410 it worked well with our jackery 500. I would recommend going with a 1000 model.
250wh is not going to last long. If it was running full time at 40 watts, its only going to last 6 hours. Its obviously not going to run full time, but Id say the 6-10 hours would be accurate in summer heat conditions. 36 hours? LOL Nooo.....
@SOLDOZER I bought a couple setpower 216wh small batteries, today I tested a little.. in my truck I connected one of the batteries after my apl35 was down to 37 fridge, 17 freezer and let it sit in the cab at bout 90f for my 8.5 hour work shift, it was down to 48% .. my fridge has the cover, but that surprised me. I didn't open it at all though

What size bed does that Tundra have the 5.5 ft. or 6.5 ft.?
@@buckblankenship hey it's a 5.5 ft.

hey, i have plans to do a full walk-through video this weekend. Please subscribe and select notification to be alerted when the video is posted.
Great review, I like your straight to the point no BS style. Been thinking of upgrading to this fridge setup in my overlanding setup instead of running two coolers. I also have a Jackery 500, and after watching the performance, I'm thinking I should have bought a larger unit. That being said, when you have your Jackery plugged in to your vehicle, and your fridge plugged in to your Jackery, are you able to keep it at 100% state of charge, or will it draw more wattage than can be charged by your truck's alternator. Thanks!
Hey thanks! It really depends on how long you run your vehicle. If you run the fridge on normal and drive 5 or 6 hours it should maintain a decent charge. We need to upgrade to a 1000 just to be safe.
NOCO says the plug only supports 15amp.. so how does it work with manager 30amp?
Hhmm ive never had an issue with charging up in the driveway testing but I didn't put a meter on it either.
Undecided between this one and the apl55. Just curious that i can't find the 35 on the iceco website but it is online in a place called indogo, is that partnered with iceco? How come iceco doesn't sell it?
Hey, great question. The APL 35 is still in "launch," so it is not generally available yet. I'm not sure when it will be GA. I have the APL55 as well and love it. If you're looking for a good-sized standard dual-zone for your trips, I would go with the APL 55. If you're looking for a smaller form factor, then the APL35 might fit your needs.
That's a good idea. Because it's a logarithmic scale, know that a 3dB increase or decrease in the sound pressure level equals a doubling or halving of sound volume. Your gas mileage increase will really pay off. Thanks.
@InGratitudeIam thanks!! We were impressed with the improvements. Colorado Fairing Co. really knows their stuff
Thanks for the video. I had a project M from Four Wheel Camper installed last week. On the drive home the wind noise was deafening so much that I had to wear noise canceling headphones. It felt like air was going behind the truck and thru the back window. Did you have any of this before the fairing was used?
@patrickakers5722 yea the air being trapped between the cab roof and the camper can drive ya nuts. This helped redirect it up and over and around the sides.
1st of all good suggestion to use the scientific method of getting actual power usage in different environments. When using the Jackery 500 it would not last 1 full day unless you had an outside power source recharging it ie solar panel, car power, or ac plug in. 24hr usage would be in excess or 600 wh.
I haven't seen any Fireflies in years😊
yea something kinda of magical about them..lol
Where did you get the connections for the cold water hose to the heater? Is that green hose joolca hose or just a normal water hose?
hey, great question. I got a short garden hose from Lowes and some connectors to switch male to female as needed.
Such a rad build! Is that the 6.5 bed or the 5.5?
hey thanks!! ita 5.5. I should have held out and found a 6.5 but I couldn't at the time.
@@OverlandTrailsAdventures that’s awesome! I have been looking all over to see if someone had done this. Have been considering it myself for the next build but haven’t been sure how the 5.5 would balance the weight. How’s it been for you so far?
@alpinetactics it's been good but on the brink. Can't put any more weight on the back so limited on how we can use the rack.
@@OverlandTrailsAdventures thanks for the feedback! 🙏
Just got mine and hooked it up to my EcoFlow Delta 2. So far, so good. Question about the fridge itself. What the difference with Eco/MAX? The different battery protection and what settings I should set it to?
Hey the default settings on battery protection are good.
Brother love the setup. I have an 08 with the same roof rack. I have 2 questions for you; what propane holder is that and where did you get the rubber spacers that go between your rack and hard top on the sides? Thanks
Hey thanks.. it's a 5lbs power tank holder and the four rubber spacers came with the rack.
@@OverlandTrailsAdventures gotcha. Did you just attach the power tank rack with pipe clamps/ straps? I bought my rack second hand so I didn’t get any of those. Thanks.
@@Papa__Squatch one of the options with the tank holder is some really cool pole clamp brackets.
