The issue I think is that you haven't been asking your tutor to explain why everytiör you don't understand a thing. I recently finished AP Calc BC and learnt a few extra stuff in calc 2, and I understood all of the subjects as I was progressing. The problem mşght also have something to do with the tutor not being a good tutor as well, but fom my experiences, it usually is the lack of asking questions from the student.

This is why the discussion of limits needs to start with limits of sequences, as it is more intuitive starting out. In a perfect world, we would start with the construction of the real numbers by considering cauchy sequences of rational numbers.

And I definitely relate with this video so much...what's the point of doing calculus without knowing where and why everything comes from instead of being taught formulas and techniques.

Ever since I was taught integrals, the first and the most basic question I had about the very definition of integrals was as follows; every introductory book states that the area under a curve is the integral of that function...And that area can be approximated by thin rectangles, the width of whom tends towards zero, and we approach the 'right' value. So integration is basically 'summation' over a continuous distribution, or over real numbers as compared to discrete distribution, or integers...Then how come while integrating something like cosx, say for half a wave, not give us the sum of every real number from 0 to 1? I'm aware of the fact that there is no such method yet that may allow us to do something like that, but I fail to see what's wrong with my assertion, even though it probably is...I asked my teacher and well as I expected, all he said is ur looking at it wrong. Bruh.

all this video did was make me appreciate how my own cal a class was structured, starting with limits and then going from limits into the idea of a tangent line to a curve representing the “slope” of the whole curve at that point, which then led into derivatives. Then, anti derivatives were introduced before integrals, shortly followed by the indefinite integral, which was explained as representing the set of all antiderivatives of the integrand function. From there, we briefly covered finite sums and sigma notation and then Riemann sums, which served as the basis for definite integrals. (Most of the other methods for solving integrals were also gone over before the Fundamental Theorem was introduced). So, yeah. Thanks Dr. Bossaller

the 3blue1brown course is so good it gives a vague idea of the connection between slopes and areas in literally the first video, before using the limit definition of a derivative and still make complete intuitive sense better than any math class i ever had

I believe calculus is actually well-taught in my country. You only learn it after 4-5 years, and you can choose which kind of math you want to do (the "easy" and the "hard"). Integrals and basically anything that have to do with trigonometry is only taught in the "hard" one.

i really wonder why there's an exploiting the internet thumbnail attached to this video, all this knowledge was made available for free to be used and put to good use. I would just call it using the internet to learn better for free. And access to knowledge should really be free or at as little cost as possible for good use. Like the library in the old days.

Yeah, I"m going back to school for my Bachelor's in Computer Science and I have to take a PreCalculus with limits course and I might throw up. I'm getting this degree because I will get more compensation in my job for having it but I've been working in my field for early 16 years. Not even close to happy about having to take that course. It's like Python scripting to me. Face/head palming the keyboard and hitting run. 😕

Im taking real anaysis now as a senior in university. Love the epsilon delta proof of a limit. Makes a lot of sense. But, I'm not sure if its necessary to learn as an average student that will not study some sort of stem major. Sometimes getting familiar with the process using real numbers (instead of variables like in rigorous proofs) is easier. However, understanding that the derivative is the slope of tangent like helped me tremendously when I learned Calculus. I had a great professor that explained the "why it works" aspect and it would help when I was able to follow it along.

Man the limit definition of a derivative formula is the biggest abomination I have ever seen. I took AP Calc in high school and my teacher skipped over that mess and went straight to the power rule because "it's a waste of time." I never knew what he was talking about until two years later taking intro calc in college. Using this formula takes me 10 minutes to do what power rule can do in 10 seconds. And of course I had to "Show my work" so I couldn't sneakily use power rule instead of this shitty thing.
