Good choice
Absolutely stunning flat picking. 🏆💯🏆
Go Dave! Love it!
What a great wedding song this would make, fox trotting across the dance floor, great song Dave
from Algeria , i Love Maine , my best for all nice men and whomen in Augusta ; i love You for my best Holiday in your btfl state
One of my favorites
One of my favorite instrumentals.
I think I figured out the tuning. It's like an open F (C,F,C,F,A,C) capo'd on the 2nd fret. Why? My bet is he was tired of breaking his high 3rd string, plus the rich sound.
Such hope and promise in this song.
JUST GREAT !!!!
Great songwriting and lovely singing.
Why on earth would there be two dislikes on this. This is just wonderful!!
Eddie Kennedy I agree.......just great.......What is there to dislike?.............loved the clip.......12 strings rock.
This song is just magic.
Wow, awesome : being a LEO KOTTKE fan : this is awesome stuff!!
The acoustics of this recording I find to be particularly pleasing each instrument is so distinctively contributing to the arrangement. Perhaps just another sign of this seasoned performer wonderful gifts. David Mallett cannot escape replay.
Beautiful!
beautiful……thanks…..we miss you Dave
Lovely song and words
Hi, Dave, I just got a tip from DAve Poulin on Facebook. He, his wife and his parents like you a lot! And they are very precious to me. I have a new TV show, and although we don't have any money, I can give you exposure to about 20 cities north of Boston and Metro West, about 14 million viewers. If this interests you, please contact me at alfred_102272@yahoo.com.
Years ago, mid-seventies, I picked up Jud Strunk who was hitchhiking from Auburn to Farmington, ME. I couldn't take him all the way to Farmington because my wife had a turkey baking in the oven, but one of the things we talked about while he was with me was Dave Mallett. Jud thought Dave Mallett was one of the best folk singers in America.
Lovely Thanks for your post
What a great story about life that David writes into his entertaining music. I particularly like the Country "side" of his presentations that he recorded after his stint in Nashville.
@rbheiss I received a coveted autograph two weeks ago at the Iron Horse on one of many 8 X 10's I was privileged to shoot when David when David and his band appeared with the Bangor Symphony Orchestra at the 9th Kingfield Pops last year in ME. I am so eager to attend the 10th Anniversary that is reported to feature Paul Stuckey.
I am one of David's newest fans, and this song, along with "The Artist in Me" are among my favorites. Bob Lyke
Lovely treatment of a wonderful piece. Thanks.
Amazing song!
This song will garden your spirit and cleanse your soul... Let's weed out hate and sow the seeds of peace.
@sderax456 That is Neil. Sure miss he had continued singer with David. Brings back old memories!!
Lee is my name...member of "Three Country Strong" trio with Gabi and Joe...and proud member of the choir of the UU Fellowship of Boca led by the incomparable Stepnanie!
Ralph and I are going to sing this song this coming Sunday for Elizabeth. There are so many wonderful renditions...for instance, Seeger, Arlo, Denver, PP&M, Bill Mills and even Kermit. But I love this version by the composer himself...David Mallett.
I love Dave...thanks so much for posting this!
nice ine
This song makes me smile and breaks my heart.... it's an absolutely perfect grown up love song... Thank you, David Mallett
My grandfather is good friends with this guy. We had a family reunion one summer, and he played in my great-grandmothers barn. I swear...it started raining and thundering, and he started playing "Fire". It was amazing. Mallett is great for anyone. If you like music, listen to him, if you dont like music....well...check him out. He just might change your mind.
This is the very best Dave Mallett song. I love the lyrics!
I love this song. I heard Dave first years ago in Nashville. His style is one I love as a songwriter myself I just thank him for all he does. I've spend quite a few nights in Maine as my son played football at Dartmouth in New Hampshire and I flew up every weekend for 4 years.
@ssypherd Go ahead and use it. I give you my permission.
Cannot find This Town or Here in This City.Anyone know where these would be available ? Cheerz
Love this. Nothing like hearing it sung by the man who wrote it! Teaching this song to 20+ youngsters at the Truro Children's Garden to perform at the 2nd Annual Truro Agricultural Fair next month.
can anyone tell me the chords he is playing? Love this guy, been listening for years
I was in Nashville about the same time, and I'm a friend of Dave's. I think this was on the Ralph Emery show, "Nashville Now". I was on that show too, about a week before.
This man is an Eric Bogle vocal clone. Good stuff.
Does anyone know the name of this song?
@blmangum I saw him twice: once in Calais, ME (International Homecoming Festival), and again in Unity, ME (MOFGA Common Ground Country Fair). I grew up listening to this song (a cover of it on a tape from Music For Little People).
Glad to see a video of the songwriter on here. Loved John Denver's version but this is the man who wrote one of my favorite tunes of all time. By the way, if you wander in here David I wanna thank you again for the autographed 8x10. It is treasured by me but I'd burn it in a minute if someone told me I had to choose between the signed photo or the music! I'll take the music any day without thought or question. That being said, I appreciate the post sonnytrue and thanks.... Rolland B. Heiss
Many years ago a friend gave me one of his tapes [ like I said..yeaRS AGO-LOL ] Fantastic.Inches & Miles , I believe. Have to do some searching. lol
I believe this was the 1980s Nashville Network program "American Country"? Never one to sell-out, Dave quickly tired of Nashville and returned home to Maine. But those Nashville sessions were awesome. By the way -- that's the late Roy Husky, Jr. on bass, and Stuart Duncan on mandolin (also played fiddle on Dave's album.) His lyrics...his stories, are also a great way to re-live one's past. He sings of the America we've about lost.
A lovely blast from the past to warm a heart on a cool night in the far away from Maineland in Brazil... David is the best. Thanks for the post.
David Mallett is an incredible artist- singeer. writer & player- fantastic at all three!! Love the late '80's Guild GF-60 (Eric Clapton model) guitar!! :-)
