You Can't Beat the Classic | Kodak Tri-X @ 70
Переглядів 1,5 тис.Місяць тому
November 2024 marked the 70th anniversary of the release of Kodak Tri-X in roll film form. It had been previously available in sheet film back in 1940. It replaced the previous fast offering, Super-XX, in 1954 as professional photographers moved from sheets to roll cameras in their work. Since then, Tri-X has only changed slightly, getting a speed bump from 200 to 320 and then 400. The final ch...

Made In Japan | Graflex Century 35 Review

While you may not equate "Graflex" with rare, especially in the mid-century date range, the Graflex Century 35 is rare simply because it was only available for a couple years and was only manufactured for one. However, the camera that the Century is based on, the Kowa Kallo 35, is a far more readily available fixed-lens rangefinder from Japan. But don't dismiss it out of hand; the Century is a ...

The easiest way is to get a USB-C card reader that can directly connect to your phone, providing that you have a USB-C connection. Then, plug the SD card from the camera into your mobile device. If not, you can upload the photos using a computer to a cloud storage service (oneDrive, Google Drive, etc.) and then download them to your phone. It's a bit complex. WOW,....About two weeks ago I renewed my interest in photography....I was a TV news photographer/cinematographer through the 1970s ...Would you believe I opened some boxes with my old cameras and the Crown Graphic was the first out... It was used to create 'rear screen images' behind the news announcer (on Ektachrome 64) long before 'electronic green screens'...AND my brand new unused 1970s Gossen Lunasix 3 (w/spot attachment) ,which I now find I must either have modified or find silver oxide batteries and the adapters....The same for my workhorse Nikkormat FTN if I want to use the meter , which I seldom used anyway.....SO here I am, thinking of finding a refresher tutorial on the Lunasix 3 and your video popped up before I even started my search, with a Crown Graphic no less ! ....I'm impressed , for sure.....Thanks, John , (west coast,Canada)

Talk about nostalgia! I was shooting TriX in my Nikon F in high school for the yearbooks in 1980/1981 (graduated in 1981). Developed it in the photo lab at school and in my bathroom at home. Often had to push it to 800 or 1600 for indoor pep rallies and other events in the school -- and I got a handful of photos in the two yearbooks. I remember the curling/cupping somewhat but I don't recall it being terrible. Of course back then there was no scanning -- there were light tables and eye loups to examine the negatives, then we would print contact sheets (under heavy optical glass) in the darkroom at school to pick shots to submit for the yearbook -- I never saw any enlargements until the yearbooks where published. But it was fun and good experience (ruined my share of rolls as I honed my developing technique) -- dang it Alex! Now you are causing me to poke my lazy self and see what it would take to do my own developing of TriX (and other modern B&W stocks)!!! Your (ISO 32) shots bring back memories of that classic look -- skies almost white and neutral (not really 'blown out' -- just brightish and no details) but the great mid-range greys throughout the elements -- grass, trees, buildings -- with an obvious, but not start contrast. I like the Ilford films, but they are not quite the same. Cheers!!!

Been using it for years. These days I rate it at 320 mostly and develop in Clayton F76+. I rate it no more than 800. Anything faster, I use Kodak P3200. For slower film, i use FP4+ and acros and develop in Rodinal.

Great review, question, will the Sigma Art series EF lenses work with this system? I have a few from my T7 days that I’ve adapted to RF for the newer R6mkii. I’m looking to pick up an Elan 7 and want to make sure I can use my sigmas

I've been shooting Tri-X for over 40 years in both roll and sheet formats. Love it! I've always developed it in HC-110, but just recently starting playing around with Jobo Alpha and that's a really nice combo, too.

Thanks for your discussion and experiences with TriX. I have a bulk loader of Kodak 400TX Professional, that's ten years past expiry date. I was just trying a little Olympus 35EC I picked up and just shot a strip of 12 exposures. I was really surprised how soft the grain was after developing in TMax developer (5.5 min @24ºC, just a wee bit cooler) when I put it into my Beseler Dichro. (I was equally surprised the camera functioned well.) I don't shoot much and the bulk loader (Restem/Isreal) still feels a bit weighty. 530gr with the film in it. I have no idea how much film is left in there. So I really appreciate you discussing your preferred developers.

Nice video… also Tetanal Ultrafin T+ works well with TriX. However, sadly modern TriX is not the same as the “old” TriX in that Kodak has reduced the silver content. - and you can tell the difference.
