2006 Suzuki Grand Vitara 2.7 V6- Valve cover gaskets
This is definitely not a 'how to' video, more like a 'hOw I duNiT'. No narration is needed. The most important thing is the order of operations since a lot has to be removed to get to the actual gaskets. This particular job took me in total about 20 hours spread out over 2 weeks. There just wasn't a whole lot of good, clear, concise instruction available for this particular job. I hope this video helps anyone wanting to DIY. I believe this is the H27A V6 engine found in the 2006-08 Suzuki Grand Vitara models.
The valve covers had been leaking for a while now, but only recently it started affecting the alternator. Oil was getting into the alternator and causing intermittent charging issues so I could no longer put it off.
Costs:
-EGR Valve - $35
-FEL-PRO MS 97028-1 Intake Manifold Gasket Set - $39
-Standard Motor Products PCV Valve - V428 - $32
-Air Intake Hose Tube [fits DOHC, 6Cyl 2.7L - $17
-GB Remanufacturing 8-024A Fuel Injector Seal Kit x6 -$24
-Pentius PAB10286 UltraFLOW Air Filter for Suzuki Grand Vitara (06-08) -$17
-NGK 3764 Iridium Spark Plug BKR6EIX-11 x 6 -$44
-FEL-PRO VS 50744 R Valve Cover Gasket Set -$25
-Silicone Vacuum Tubing Hose line Kit -$26
Total cost ~$260
Time: Roughly 20 hours (because I was disorganized and didn't know what I was doing)
Leave a comment if you have any questions and I will answer as soon as I can.

The engine is an Orion Factory tuned 5-port with the 2013 pipe. Protek 130 servos. Mugen 6R JConcepts Finnisher body. Overall, very nice, solid car. Comes with all of the hop ups. Great deal IMO.

      It took me about 20 hours total because I wasted a lot of time trying to figure out how to remove things. I also swapped a lot of parts-alternator, plugs, belt pulleys, etc. It's more like a 10 hour job if you follow my steps. It would be nice if you could lift the intake with the fuel rail in tact, but I couldn't see a way to do that. Holler if you get stuck.

      @muchlove4pr That's terrible. I would set the car on fire. The transmission in my TC1 was plug and play. No programming was needed. I'm not really sure what your issue could be. You might want to reach out to a Toyota tech.

    Thanks for posting this video I bought my 05 scion in 2021 and it had 157,xxx miles on it. I am now just starting to deal with the transmission starting to slip at take off. Every other gear is fine. I’m also starting to get a whining noise from it. I have 324,xxx miles on it now and it’s just now starting to give me problems with the trans. The biggest issue I have is it drinks oil like a fish. I’m going through 4 qts a week I don’t want to get rid of it because it’s paid for.

    • @mrfranchize02

Any time they see me they honk, but they just don’t know the hassle of getting parts & repairs done.😢😅 Reliable truck, but once it’s time to fix it it’s really time to fix it. Bro I’ve been having issues with my scion tc for awhile now and I can’t get to the bottom of it. I’d really appreciated your help. First it has no codes, spark plugs are new as well as the ignition packs. MAP senor new, 02 sensor new as well. And every time I hit 60 mph it feels like my transmission is forcing itself. Then the rpm’s start jumping from 2 1/2 to 3 and back to 2 1/2. Almost as if it’s slipping. You think it’s something minor or definitively my transmission?

      try changing the throttle position sensor at the gas pedal. you could have a gap in the sweep. ODB scan tool can verify this.

    Update 09/18/23. I did my due dilligence and found a transmission on Ebay for $700 including shipping. The VIN was verified and the car had damage on the rear passenger side. The car appeared to be in good condition and had 104k miles on it. The seller provided many photos. So, I'm currently just waiting on the delivery. Any other important tips you didn't mention in the video, when replacing the transmission?

  • @mp3st
    @mp3st Рік тому

    What a great video! Definitely earned a sub! My Automatic transmission just gave out at 141k miles. I bought it used with 84K miles nearly 10 years ago, so this car has been extremely reliable. Never had a problem beforehand. Besides looking at the photos. Did you verify the VIN number? DId you replace your tranmission in the past because I'm shocked it lasted 286K miles? If the old lasted that long, is there any tips you can give me for the longetivity of the transmission? i.e: How often did you change the transmission filter/fluid? Do you add any additives to your car? If so, which one? Sorry for so many question. But, you look like a very informative person, so I'm willing to listen to your advice. Thank you. Keep up with the great content!

    • @mrfranchize02
      @mrfranchize02 Рік тому

      I'm glad I could help. I bought the car used in 2015 with 216k miles. As far as I know, the transmission was original. The transmission fluid had a burnt smell, so I was afraid to touch it. I never change transmission fluid in any of my cars personally. My dad changed the transmission fluid in his perfectly driving truck one time, and the transmission blew right after. So I take the gamble and leave my transmissions alone. I probably won't change this new transmission's fluid either. The eBay seller verified the VIN for me, so I didn't have to worry about that. I'm sure if you find a used transmission close to your year model, it should be fine. For longevity, the only tip i could give is drive your car like a granny and keep it well maintained. Let me know if I can help.

    • @mp3st
      @mp3st Рік тому

      Thanks for the reply! Come to think about it I decided to change my transmission fluid nearly 3 years ago. I'm thinking now that I shouldn't have never changed it in the first place. Probably the previous owner never changed it and by me replacing the flud/filter it caused transmission damage. I'm just going to take the gamble and not change it once I replace my transmission. I will keep you updated!@@mrfranchize02
