Hiking 7 days on Alpe Adria trail in Slovenia: the weather is the king
It was early May when we embarked on a 7-day hike across Slovenia while following a much longer Alpe Adria trail. What I thought would be an easy-ish hike, turned out to be a much more challenging and diverse adventure. This was also one of those trips where the weather kept changing its' mind... :) Anyway, if you're interested in Alpe Adre and especially the Slovenian section, here's my experience. Enjoy!

Nobody said it was easy - my first 50k ultramarathon
Переглядів 3702 місяці тому
I used to hate running, now I love it as much as hiking. It's all about being outside and getting energy from the beautiful nature around me. After challenging myself with marathon distances, I decided to move to the next level of insanity - ultra running. Here's my attempt to capture how it felt to run my first ultramarathon, 50k through beaches and forests of the Curonian Split (Kursiu Nerija...

Winter hiking alert: 3 trips around Chamonix and snowshoeing for the first time
Переглядів 54711 місяців тому
Back in 2023, we went for a few days to Chamonix. This valley has a special place in my heart and I always enjoy coming back to it. Of course, the mighty Mont Blanc adds a lot of charm, but Chamonix is special to me mostly because it was the start of our first independent multi-day hike, Tour du Mont Blanc, which we did a few years ago. This time we came back for a winter exploration. We wanted...
Is Rhine region in Germany worth visiting in November? Our weekend quest for castles

For three days we followed the Rhine Castles Trail alongside the Rhine river. The whole trail is almost 200km long and leads through beautiful valleys and vineyards. It’s a castle trail after all 😅 For more hiking inspirations, check out my blog: intothehike.com/ Music: Sky Toes - The Long Ride Home u...
How we (kind of) ran the West Highland Way in April: first time fastpacking
Переглядів 389Рік тому
In late April 2023, we finally got to hike a trail that was on my bucket list for a while - West Highland Way. This trail starts in a small town north of Glasgow, Milngavie, and finishes in Fort William, at the foot of the highest Scottish peak - Ben Nevis. 160km of the amazing Highlands. We did this trail in 6 days and tried fastpacking for the first time. Fastpacking is like trail running, ju...

    Awesome video! Thanks! To avoid the dreary 30 kmish roadwalk (or expensive bus) btw Vakkotavare and Kebnats/Saltoloukta consider going over Ritsem and take the Padjelanta trail to Kvikkjokk. Better and more beautiful! And if you want an even longer Swedish hike, look into the Via Suecia Trail - a genuine thruhike from the southernmost point of Sweden (Smygehuk) to Treriksröset in the North. It's more like the Te Araroa, AT, CDT and PCT. Happy trails!

      hey! I did three trails during this trip, which one do you mean? I accessed all the trails via public transport, either a bus or a train, here are the locations: 1. Les Houches - go up the Prarion cable car and pick the snowhoeing trails (there will be signs and maps) 2. Vallorcine - turn right from the train station (arriving from Chamonix) and move to the edge of the town to the trailhead (there will be signs) 3. Servoz - from the train station, cross the Servoz town and follow the signs to Lac Vert

    • @simonaintothehike
      @simonaintothehike 5 місяців тому

      I’d say for all the groomed parts that’s pretty much the case. I haven’t tried hiking in micro spikes but if they give you enough support on steep parts, then indeed it should be enough. Not groomed parts is another story, there you definitely want the snow shoes 😉

    • @simonaintothehike
      @simonaintothehike 2 місяці тому

      thanks! hmm, haven't put all the costs together yet, but I'd say it was roughly 1200 eur for all accommodation (also including pre/post hike hotels), another 100 for inside Italy public transport to the trailhead and back, then roughly 400 euros for flights. Then I'd say we've probably spent ~200-300 euros for food/groceries as a separate item. Most of food expenses are included in a hut price as we took half board everywhere. This is a rough estimate for two people 😉

    OMG the heights from Angels landing! Gave me anxiety watching it. Glad you enjoyed it. The Narrows-What month was your trip? We might try the 5:30 am as well to avoid large crowds. Is the drive from Zion to Bryce Canyon have cliff drops? Scared of heights lol..still debating if we should even do Bryce since we'll have 3 days in Zion.

    • @simonaintothehike
      @simonaintothehike 7 місяців тому

      Haha yeah, Angels Landing is pretty steep 😅 We went there in September. What I recall is that the road between Zion and Bryce is very hilly, but cliff drops are not really common there (especially compared to other national parks).

      I was rather lucky with the weather since it didn’t rain that much (for Scandinavian standards). I always carry a ziplock bag for my camera and when it starts raining, I put it there (my camera is sadly not waterproof). If it’s pouring rain, I just put the camera inside the backpack, where all my stuff is safe and dry in a pack sack 😉

    So I've done the Kasseler Hutte on a day trip once, is it representative of the entire Berliner trail regarding difficulty or is it easier? and the views? I'm planning to do the entire trail since I thought that area was so beautiful

    • @simonaintothehike
      @simonaintothehike 10 місяців тому

      When I look back, the hike to Kasseler Hutte was easier than the hike to Berliner Hutte or Greizer Hutte, mainly because the passes were rather technical and really steep. As for the views, all days were great, you will definitely in for some spectacular views on this trail. Good luck!
