I think it's a bit like writing poetry
Marriage is a blessing
Civilization is also a social construct as you'd agree. I realize this is more and more a popular opinion among younger people at least in the UK and US but I would caution you that we are already at the peak of this trend. These things are self correcting and in a few generations time, given the replacement rate disadvantages of people that get sucked into this mindset... it will quite literally be erased from the culture. Your stance is not objectively true and further, it has no utility. It is only palatable without severe social consequences at this precise moment. Let's look at Britain. At best non-conservative folks have a replacement rate of 1.5 but in reality that is the nation's average. Conservative people are... I don't have UK numbers but in US around 2 vs average of 1.6 so we can assume some roughly similar trends. Let's just look at what 1.5 though means for the nation. In 3 generations, the population of britain is down from 67 million to 24 million. Now, factoring in differences in replacement rate though, we might get something like ~30 million with the non-conservative aspects of society reduced to an ostracized 10% of that population. I don't think it will go this way though. I think once conservatives in a generation or so become the super majority and dictate fashion, people will naturally fall in line with their opinions and adopt their perspective on the world. In this scenario, much more quickly your position will face being marginalized. I'm not normally so chatty but I've had a few drinks. Anyway, it's for the reasons above that I would encourage you to examine your choices carefully. Culture will change pretty quickly and you seem a lovely girl. I'd hate to imagine you pitied and shunned
I think marginalised is completely the wrong word to use. you’re explaining exactly what I mentioned is the most disgusting part about marriage, how it is forced on young women or any women to the point where they feel they have no choice. you’re telling me that if I don’t get married I will be marginalised and that is EXACTLY why it is a stupid concept in the first place. I am so thankful I have a choice, and if my choice means I will be “marginalised”, so be it. you have quite literally proved my point. you have explained that if I don’t get married, I will be treated as insignificant. and that is disgusting.
@@6rungy.ch1ck "how it is forced on young women or any women"? And men are not effectuated?
"Your stance is not objectively true and further, it has no utility." Big words you throw around there! "Truth" is not involved when it comes to social ideas, it´s about choices. "Utility" is a concept that also is not related to truth, at best it may be related to probability.
Marriage is a contract between two people. That contract is not needed for a long term relatioship, but it is harder to get out of Marriage, so it is a commitment to the other person.
@@TeamBeefVR yes, but it is not necessary to prove how committed you are in my opinion
Yeah I used to think this when I was younger. I thought it was such an original thought "I don't need the state's, or God's approval to prove that I love someone". Since then I've heard people say that same thing a million times so it obviously is an easy conclusion to come to. I think I was wrong, but for different reasons. If you don't believe in God (universal, objective morality, or the creator of it), then I think the argument will bear less weight for you, but when you get married you're making a statement in front of your family, friends, and your creator. You're making a direct, public, commitment (unless you don't take it seriously, and unfortunately many don't). PRACTICALLY speaking (forget religion for a sec) you are getting all of these onlookers invested in your success. Every couple is gonna go through rough shit, and having that community there who KNOWS clearly what your commitment and vows are to support you during rough times is huge. That's a lot better than this nebulous thing where they don't really know your level of commitment to one another (you didn't make the statement, and they can't read your minds), people don't know if you guys plan to move on when the going gets rough, it's wishy washy as hell... and honestly? It's just less fucking hot and romantic lol. MATURE love is about self-sacrifice on a fundamental level ("there is no greater love than to lay one's life down for one's friends"). Hopefully you don't need to DIE for your spouse to show this commitment, but in rare cases you actually might. If you aren't even willing as a man to put aside the possibility of being with other women, give everything you have to who you love, and same for the woman... your love isn't mature, it's not real. People should self-audit mentally: if they are totally unwilling to give up and make sacrifices (even little ones) to make their relationship work better, it's not love, you're not ready for the real thing (the deeper joy comes in the giving, not the taking). There's a whole tradition and set of moral systems baked into traditional marriage... can you try to pursue these things without that system?? ...Yeah I suppose, but there's a bit of arrogance in that. It's like trying to reinvent the wheel, why? The wheel works, what makes you too good for the commitments and systems of our grandmothers and great grandmothers? Are you really so much wiser than your grandma? IDK, people can do what they want. It just makes me sad that this stuff is on serious decline. Makes the world feel more lonely, seems like romance is dying. It's hard even to give away a beautiful future to someone, unless you wave materialistic things around in their faces. To me the lack of respect for marriage is just one of many signs, it's not the end all be all... but it's an important leg being kicked out from the table that holds up society, where family is the base and root of civilizations. I hate this hipster bullshit lol, I wish more women wanted it and took it seriously. Younger men will always struggle with it - takes a little time to grow up (happens faster the healthier your culture is I think), but it's a new phenomenon that a much larger percentage of women don't care. Of course though marriage itself solves no problems, unless you take it seriously.
I agree with what you’re saying about mature love, and thank you for taking time to comment. I believe there are other ways to teach people to love to bring more romance back into today’s society, I don’t think romance is dying. I think people get too caught up in proving themselves to other people and jump into things like marriage and then things go wrong. I think the only thing people should focus on is their love for their partner, and that’s enough, and that’s what we should be teaching
@@posthardcoresinger are my problems being solved if I take my marriage seriously, OR is it if I take my partner seriously, and the love and respect I have for my partner seriously?
@@6rungy.ch1ck if you take the pursuit of the good true and beautiful in life seriously, I think it will lead you to do something like marriage. Partly because again, grandma's wisdom, and whether or not marriage is the end all be all, I think the humble person will not fight so hard to overcome what has worked, just to redefine themselves for what I think is ego's sake... I was a punk rock kid so I get the whole needing to define your own path thing, but I really think we fight upstream unnecessarily, and we say we're fighting against the stream of "society" (there is corruption in society yes), but really it's usually just another way of putting ourselves first. It's worth listening to yourself when you bring up societal expectations, this is in no way unique to you so I'm not picking on you but people (especially women) complain about this ALL THE TIME. I think you misunderstand how much power you have as an individual sacred human being when you do this (unintentionally, probably). Society can do what it wants, who cares. You have free will. Women are much more sensitive to social pressures than men... but that is an internal problem, just because some annoying karen at the store made a comment that pissed us off ("why do you dress like that?!, why aren't you married!?" etc.), doesn't mean anything. We can just write that off as silly and not let it make us worse people by dragging us down to their level of needy ego-validation. Hitler breathed air, doesn't make air bad. He probably agreed that 2+2=4 too, doesn't mean there's something wrong with math. At the very least, I would just say don't worry about labeling it as a social construct, and just make sure that YOU are in control of what you think, because we're easily tripped up into thinking we're counter-cultural, but that ends up really just being another way of following a different herd without much thought... everything in society is a damn social construct lol (meaning that is not a statement of value, because there are good and bad constructs). I would actually say marriage is a biblical command from God so it has spiritual value which goes way beyond human society, but that's just me. Forget what society thinks, who cares, do you want to make a grand statement of committed love to your partner or don't you? I'm not posing that as something that needs answering now, just food for thought.

@@narutouzumaki2157 exactly.
@@6rungy.ch1ckYou are not a disembodied construct. The idea that 'everything is a social construct' leads to narcissism. It's also self con5radictory. If all truth is relative so is the supposedly true statement 'all truth is relative'.
I absolutely agree. People being together should be entirely their own business. I personally might want to get married one day, but it has no bearing on whether I feel desired or not

The way that I look at it is that music is a way of expressing emotions. Often emotions are difficult and don't make sense, so why should lyrics make sense? In many of my favourite songs, it's particular words or phrases that grab my interest and imprint themselves in my brain. Many times in the past, once that I've found out what some of my these tunes are actually about, it's been disappointing because for me, they were about something else entirely!

You should have seen Melbourne back in the 80's...everything just made sense! I'm not even sure if the idea of gentrification even existed. Back then Craigieburn was a cute little town but Frankston was and still is a hellish cesspit. Nice beach though. Great vid guys
Hey! I wasn't actually around in the 80s (due to being pre-life, as it were) and I'm curious - what do you mean by Melbourne just made sense back then? Could you elaborate a little, please?
@@MegaMONI45 Mainly that Melbourne was much less complicated back then and it appeared more orderly and aesthetically pleasing as a city as I recall it. In the last 20 years the constant rebuilding (Big Build, Level Xing removals, mega apartment developments, urban expansion - and gentrification - has changed it into more or less a different city. It seems more chaotic now. I get it we need to grow but damn if I could invent a time machine I would definitely go back! The music was good too :)
