How Do You Pack in Your Saddle Gear | Minimal Setup | 2024
I am going down a minimalist road and this is what I carry and how I pack everything in.
I understand this style may not be for everyone but I do believe we can refine our setups from what we see others doing .
Good luck this season!

How to Sharpen a Simmons Broad Head

Simmons are devastating heads. But can be tricky for the sharpening challenged. This is the best way I have found to sharpen them to surgical standards.

What’s To Come from The Saddle Cartel!
Crazy how just a little extra width at the top of the bridge can make the pinch go away.
Check out the Yale woodland rope. It's lighter and stranger than the canyon elite. I like the canyon but I absolutely love the Yale woodland. It has some Amsteel in the core and had almost zero stretch in the rope and hold a knot great
I’m headed down the same minimalistic route. Thanks for the video!
So, looks dope. Whats it called? And where can we get one?
Vice Carrier by CGM www.customgearmodifications.com/
I saw this pack when I dropped by Trey's place last week. I was surprised by the amount of "stuff" that he was able to carry with this pack. It truly is minimalist, but wow it holds alot.
This is EXCELLENT information. So much simple to the point info in a quickly video
I've had great luck using a cheap rada sharpener.
Radas are great for getting a good edge up to a shaving sharp edge. I just prefer them surgical
That .5 sure looks familiar bud!!! And I have that ranger now too! Love that thing!
Where can I get a target like that? I used to have one a loooong time ago. It lasted for a really long time but the place I bought it from went out of business by the time I was ready to buy another one.
Been waiting on this video for a while! Thank you. Very enlightening.
@@chrisself4303 appreciate it!
Great review!!! Seems you share some of same opinions of other reviewers have. What I personally don’t understand is for same money and same weight the .5 can be a great stand (used in traditional form) and decent to good hybrid setup. The Ranger is a very good oversized saddle platform and a very awkward Treestand. Almost unusable in Treestand mode from what I can see. For me a hybrid has to preform good in both functions not great in one but just ok in the other. Not sure other then just to say your in the market or you have extra$$$ in your pocket why the Ranger?
I tend to agree with you 100% there.. in my style of hunting it works, but as a 50/50 option? No sir you are correct.. I never used the .5 like a traditional stand.. just as a place to turn around, sit down and take a break on those long hunts.. But you CAN use it that way. With the Ranger? I agree.. it’s basically just a place to turn around, sit down and take a break for a few minutes.. other wise it’s just a big platform.
Precision efficiency for all 🦅
Where did you get your diamond file with the radius. I have a round diamond file like a chainsaw file but I’d like to have one like the one you have
Amazon.. type oval diamond rod in the search engine
Great video. Great info. Thanks for sharing.
Way to go my man.
@@ghostrunnersjp appreciate it brother!
Thank You for the review! I'm glad you liked it. Very well done! I'm excited for your later-season video.
@@Hart_ofan_Outdoors_Woman-tl9mp thank you for the support! Keep us posted on your success this season!
Great video Lance, Also on average how high do you go up these days? Thanks, Steve S.
Still hunting mountains.. I can be 25’ up and 10yds behind me I’m eye level with the ground.. I would say with my cover canopy before the leaves come off the trees I’m usually 18-22’
“If you wound a deer and come across him just take your ranger and stab him” 😂 thanks for the great explanation on hybrid hunting and comparison of the two tree stands. Best I’ve seen yet. Excited to try the hybrid method this year.
Glad you liked it! And buddy that ranger has some fangs! Kind of a hard toe cam roll because they’re so big!
Great video! Very informative!
I found those there yesterday and thought "thanks fella!"
That was a great video. When I first heard about the ranger I thought I'd sell my .5 and get it but after seriously thinking about it, I'm keeping the 5. Mainly to use it as a traditional lock-on when not doing the hybrid saddle thing. After seeing you weigh it and how you have to use a pin for the seat I know I made the correct decision. I've got the ambush and fix platforms... plus, EWO ultimate one stick. With that many options the ranger would most likely collect dust. I'll deal with the cables on the .5. Best of luck this season. I bowhunted GA WMA's growing up there in the 80's and 90's. I can relate to that heat.
Yes! If your primary use would be as a stand, I agree 100%. The .5 is the better option!
Good information thanks for sharing
Great video buddy
So many different ways and styles to Saddle Hunt... This definitely looks pretty legit. There's A Lot of real-estate with that method, and from someone that has a lot of Limb damage and pain, that looks comfortable 🎉
Hyper sensitivity to the point of leg spasms in my left, could stab a knife through my right and not know it. Klonus in the left.. 2 surgeries and 14 injections.. I have to find the most comfortable safest way to hunt now
@SaddleCartel You and me both buddy! I'm trying to get back to be able to jog... struggle bus is real
I hockey taped an ink pen cap to the post for the seat pin
I need more details on this please! Are you using the ink pen cap as a type of holster for the pin when not in use?
@@SaddleCartel yes sir. Works great and locks it into place. No chance for that pin to flop and ting non stop.
@@nemohunter87awesome! Thank you so much for the tip! I’m going to work on finding the right ink pin top now!
@@nemohunter87@nemohunter87, that Ink pen trick so worked perfectly! Thank you so much for the tip!
@@SaddleCartel awesome man! glad it worked for you too. Cheap and works!
Great information!
Do you feel like you get use of the entire platform when resting knees on the seat pad in the sitting position. I guess what I asking is the 17” measurement a fair measurement. Awesome review
Yes.. where the .5 restricts how far apart I can place my feet as well as how far forward… the ranger allows me to push the out further around the tree. There is a lot more wiggle room for your feet closer to the tree.
When upgrading equipment, older sticks and platforms become permanent sets on permission property. That's worth more to me than selling it off for pennies on the dollar on swap pages.
@@James.712 very good way to use the old setups!
Definitely an interesting piece to add to the arsenal
“Poor man’s Shikar”!! Awesome!
This is great. I Finally realized that about high FOC one day, that was good an aggravating. Another thing I did is I was able to clean up my form, drop a spine and go shorter. I'm almost too short now but it basically eliminated the diving with 250 up front. 6gpi with 275g, those still do it a little but anything less, none.
Went chasing arrows tails for a long time when I got into this . By far the best video out there simple can’t beat it . I was still struggling to get a perfect arrow flight with bare shaft . This is great I’m down to hitting the same center mark of my target bare /fletched now impact tighter and my groups are all within a 2 inch circle at 20
@@DanielMohammed-bb4gq thank you so much! Glad we were able to help out! Keep us posted this fall on your success!

You're a nut lance, Love it 😂
Terry Newman has not only a great bowyer to work under he’s also become a great friend.
You did good, Lance. I just subscribed. Never too old to learn more.
I like to think I know this stuff already but it's always good to see an in depth informative video like this to make sure you're covering all the bases
That one runs great! I love the wingbone calls. I don't put a grommet on mine though.
Appreciate it. Im still learning how to run them and the grommet helped me find my lip position. I love making them and the sound of one is like no other.
That is how you run one. I hear a lot of people run them too choppy sounding. I inlaid a feather like that on some I made for friends of mine after one of our spring trips. They came out good.
Thank you. I really appreciate that. Ive came along way in a year. I love the look of the feather in them. Hoping to experiment a little more with some bigger feathers this summer.
@@SaddleCartel I think a lot of people try too hard. I did. I probably wouldn’t win a calling contest, but I have called up a bunch of turkeys with mine. I had to practice a lot to get the choppiness out of it. I like that feather on the bell. It looks and sounds great.
It definitely takes practice. I haven’t called one in yet but hopefully soon!!
@@SaddleCartel You may see some reactions you don’t expect, but they are in a good way. Something about that sound really gets them. Obviously, that doesn’t happen every time, but I have seen and heard reactions the last 5 years that I never saw or heard in the previous 35 or 40 years of hunting turkeys. You will see. Good luck.
Just got done making my second set from my last turkey 🦃. Give these to a friend 🤠
Thats awesome!! I have 3 sets in the freezer I plan on doing the same. They are a joy to make!
What do you make the mouth stopper out of?
i wish I could tell but that was given to me, so I cant say for sure. I am gonna figure out how to make them though.
That sounds awesome i been practicing alot cant make it sound that good.
Just keep it at! Ive been practicing for a year and still learning!
Also, this was my 4th wingbone and this one I can run the best for some reason. My first one, I just couldn’t get it to run that well. Seems like they all will fit your mouth differently
Awesome thanks I been hunting 17 yrs normally tag out every year this year in TN its been tough
@@mattd8411 these birds sure know how to play this chess game!

Beautifully explained.
I need you to make me one of those.

This may actually be one of the, if not the best, introduction to traditional archery for a beginner without bogging them down with being to technical! I wish I had seen this three and a half years ago when I got started... it would have saved me a little time. Anyway this was very good ... God bless ya!
Wow, thank you so much!
