SCHS Expansion Project at NWFSC
This is one of my favorite developments recently as it directly betters our area. Seacoast Collegiate High School (SCHS) has partnered with Northwest Florida State College (NWFSC) to establish a dual enrollment center and fully functioning satellite campus of Northwest Florida State College, offering full-degree programs and professional development opportunities to the Walton County community. This collaboration is the first of its kind for South Walton and will be available to all dual enrollment students and adult learners.
This multi-million dollar project consists of two phases over five years (2024-2029), including a Seacoast Collegiate building, a Northwest Florida State College building, and a community building which will be the hub for their Dream Big Program. Phase 1 is set to open in Fall 2025.
The Sandbar
If you’ve driven on Hwy 98 recently in Santa Rosa Beach, you may have noticed the 30 acres cleared bordering the Hwy. This new development is called The Sandbar and is Walton County’s first Live Local Act project. What is that? The law was aimed at incentivizing developers to produce affordable housing and at streamlining governmental approval of affordable housing projects.
The plan is to develop 384 multi-family units with 40% being income restricted units, 15,000 square feet of commercial retail, a 3,700 square foot financial institution, a 56,000 square foot hotel (100 keys), 4,668 square foot clubhouse for the east side, 1,571 square foot clubhouse for the west side, and associated infrastructure on these 30 acres.
Greg Orr Porsche Dealership
Not too far away from the Sandbar, we have Greg Orr’s new Porsche dealership coming to SRB. With a 30,241 square foot auto dealership with showroom, service, office space and associated infrastructure on 3.44 +/- acres. This shows the awareness local businesses are having towards the anticipated growth along hwy 98 and the desire by some, definitely not all, but some locals for modern conveniences to be a shorter drive than Destin or PCB.
Right next to the dealership, we have a new Commercial Center going in with 34,414 square feet of commercial use and associated infrastructure on 2.27 +/- acres. We can expect to see 3 buildings, hopefully a strong tenant mix. Right across the street, a commercial center similar to this was built and are having great success with a new local gym and a bakery going in.
