Awful sound. Soon to be paired up with a UUC Corsa RSC36 midpipe section. Pretty easy to install and finished off with a set of vband clamps for attachment.

Let's go around the block in my '89 Ford F250 diesel
Переглядів 6 тис.13 років тому
Driving around the neighborhood in my truck. This is a 1989 F250 Lariat with 4x4 and a 7.3 Navistar IDI diesel. Shortly after I purchased the truck for a song, a leaking headgasket resulted in a severe hydrolock and a bent connecting rod. Instead of scrapping the truck, I rebuilt it from the ground up and swapped out the original C6 for a ZF5. I have about $3000 tied up in the rig and it gets a...
7.3 IDI timing or fuel issue?
Переглядів 16 тис.13 років тому
under a load i get the slight knock you hear while the RPMs are increasing. i also have a slight amount of blue smoke and a stumble on acceleration. timing is set on the witness marks. i recently installed new injectors and fuel return lines. on the old set of injectors the truck ran like a top, this problem came with the new (not remanufactured) injectors.
F250 7.3 IDI diesel start and idle
Переглядів 23 тис.14 років тому
Start and idle of my '89 F250 4x4. International 7.3 diesel (DT444) rebuilt by me, converted from a Ford C6 3 speed automatic to a ZF5-42 5 speed manual transmission
Belle observation
Some of the best trucks ever made. I had an 89 4x4 double cab in nice shape. vids still on my channel.
Was this with a muffler or resonator delete at all?
100% paper filter stock. they are a little noisier when everything on the car is cold. it quiets down when it gets warmed up and the timing/fuel changes
Have you sold the car?
Yes, just over a year ago
The motors that can’t be killed, pops right off and sounds good and very strong 💪 and that 5 speed makes it even better to me
That's a healthy one, no tap tap tap sound.
that was right after i rebuilt the engine. if there was tapping i would not have been a happy camper!
esta chingona la ford
it bring me back good memories
Fuck your troll
did you found what was the problem?
Arek Wasyl normal operation. sold the car to a coworker who drives it every day and loves it.
you didnt find out what was the noise source?
Arek Wasyl just the sound of air rushing into the intake. it's a composite manifold and I did not have the insulating cover on, so it sounded noisy but it was actually normal.
i love these red fords i have been driving an 89 ford for most of my driving life
Thanks for sharing. That truck is awesome.
Such a beautiful truck! And it sounds great too!
cant say that i did... with that first worn out clutch the pedal caught very high in the stroke which was aggravating. put a new one in and it was a lot more like OEM a lot of people complain about firewall flex on these trucks, that could give you a fair amount of play
One more thing, did you re-calibrate your speedometer, or just let it go? Also when you said you had to put in a different column, did you change out the whole thing, or just remove the column shifter and install the plastic cover in it's place?
the driveshafts are the same length. there is one trick to that though because the ZF5 has larger universal joint bearings than the C6. not sure how the ZF5 size compares to the E4OD but it was nothing to change them over, 2 seconds and i was in business.
Also, did you use a different drive shaft, or was the the original the correct length?
Thanks for the info. I hope eventually I can convert my truck to a manual.
What all did you do to your truck to convert it to the ZF 5 Spd.?
that is a walker replacement muffler and tailpipe, nothing special
sounds great, what sort of exhaust?
@mascota525 about 12-15 mpg
what kind of mpg
@maxhauler yeah. coming from gas into the diesel world was a little perplexing. i thought the engine was hurt the first time i ran it with the new injectors, because it sounds exactly like a spun bearing or rod knock. white smoke scares the crap out of me, especially with a diesel. hopefully yours is more bluish...
@maxhauler nope, this was after the rebuild. i put new injectors in it a few months after the rebuild was done and as it turns out, the original pump was not enough to push the new injectors. so right now im running on an in jector pump and injectors with unknown mileage. im getting married in two months so... probably at least 3 before i can get a new pump to match the new injectors.
@maxhauler thanks! its been fun and educational for sure. ive recently started on the bodywork but im not quite ready to show that off yet :)
I have 2x4 and have got almost 19mpg on highway unloaded with my 92 7.3 idi. Got 12mpg towing 27 foot 5th wheel.
@maxhauler im on old injectors and an injector pump of unknown age... with a new fuel system and correct timing it will do better
@eatont9999 all right man thanks for the advice!
@typedbyben That makes sense. When you get the injectors replaced, have a diesel tech set the timing on the pump. Your wallet will thank you when it comes to MPGs. Good luck.
@eatont9999 it was the pump. the new injector pop pressure was too high to be fully driven by my pump. the old ones are back in until i can afford to get a new one in there.
It sounds like a bad injector or two. Make sure you have good fuel in it and crack each injector line. The one that does not make a difference in sound (aka worse) is the one with the problem. Depending on the age of the injectors and pump, you should replace both and have them timed with the correct equipment. Replace the return lines and O-rings while you are at it (not part of your original issue, though).
@incompletehunter i get about 13-15 mpg mixed city/highway, but i cannot speak to my fuel system's state of repair... from what i understand, underdriven you can get 18 mpg out of the 7.3 unladen. seems high to me.
what kinda fuel mileage comes with the IDI?
I like seeing these 8th gen Ford pick ups in good shape.
@idiforddiesel sorry man, this is all i have for now.
Dam thats a nice truck man, can you post more vids
@LopezDR10 it wasnt bad. i was lucky enough to have just about every single part that i needed from a 5 speed truck that was getting parted out. once you get the old automatic stuff out (including the steering column), everything else is a direct swap. i didnt drill a single hole.
nice truck ...... how much of a hasle was it to swap the auto c6 to the 5 spd ..... i have 94 idi with the E4OD and despritly want a 5spd
Wow clean truck! Runs awesome!
Sounds clean and looks nice!!
