bro put the nick valensi p90's on his guitar. thats rad
Cool cover dude, but why you sound louder in the chords than in the solo?
I noticed that too, I think the volume on my pedal was too low 😅 sorry about that haha
@@georgemontague7haha, I love your stuff, will you return making covers or songs? 😊
Great tones man! So, no Ten Years preamp for this one? PS, just got a JC-40 after only realising recently that Nick's been using the JC-120. Sure enough, I see it's what you've been using for the New Abnormal covers 😂💪. What are your amp settings btw? Bright switch on/off?
I'm sure you could use the ten years a distortion for this one. It models a solid state amp so using it on a JC is a little redundant but doesn't sound bad. The JC-40 is going to sound exactly like how the JC-120 does, just with less headroom so no worries there. I actually don't know Nick's JC amp settings, I just set it so it sounds good for my guitar. Bright switch on or off depending on how dark your guitar is, although it's usually better to keep them off on most amps
Blud im still waiting for you to play nachu pichu
but can you do this and beat ghosts n goblins in the same vid? ;)
What do you think I'm doing with my feet?
awesome man! greetings from arg
SICK
Cool cover! :DDD, what guitar are you using? I don't like the new rivieras, so i wanna buy an es 335 and change The humbuckers for p94 pickups
It's an Epiphone dot with Gibson p-94 pickups.
Absolute banger
Dude knows how to dress up sick!
What is the tuning for this ?
The tuning is E standard like all of their songs. This version is just played in G# instead of B.
Hi, great cover, I see you are using the fender hot rod deville amp but also seem to using headphones. Could you tell me how to do this as the amp has no headphone port on it
I record the hot rod deville with a mic on the speakers, the headphones are coming from my computer so I can hear the backing track. There is no input into the amp other than my guitar.
@@georgemontague7 Oh alright thanks for replying
hey man i’m trying to do some guitar covers, how do you not get copyrighted for these videos?
The only time I ever got a copyright strike on a video was life is simple in the moonlight. In that video I used the recording from the album which was a mistake. Usually I pick my favourite live performance and use that as my backing track, and I recommend you do the same if you're concerned about copyright strikes. Hope I could provide some insight.
Amazing!!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
How did you get that sound with the bridge pickup?
It's all just the guitar going into the fender hot rod deville amp. When I'm on the bridge pickup, the amp is on the drive channel. When I switch to the neck pickup, it's on the More Drive channel (and my tone knob is at 0)
What mode is the digitech synth in?
It's in mode 1! but also the Sensitivity is at ~10 o'clock, the control at maximum and the range at minimum
@@georgemontague7 Thanks! 😊😊
My gawd! This is pure heaven.
Are those pickups P-94 or Lollar?
They're old Gibson P-94's, Which Gibson no longer makes. Closest you could get now would be the Lollar brand P-94's which I've tried and like. As long as you get a P-94 style pickup they all sound relatively similar.
@@georgemontague7 nice, I have the Nick Valensi model and the middle position is my favorite. My dream is to buy a vintage Gibson 330 (Casino look a like) and put in some p-94s and switch out the trapeze tailpiece to a frequensator. One day…
Man im addicted to this song and to the guitar part of this song and you played it so perfectly. Keep up the good work, dude!!
Digitech Synth Wah <3
This one is my favorite bgm in MapleStory. Thank you!
Cual es el orden de los pedales que enciendes y apagas en este tema amigo?
It's just the devilles more drive channel throughout the entire song. For that opening note I used the digitech synth wah
@@georgemontague7 thanks bro! 🎸👌
I'm definitely getting a tr 2 after this
So nice!!! How did you set the digitech?
Sens on 4, Control 11, Range 0 and Type 1
@@georgemontague7 Thanks! The pedal is amazing
I will sell three of my toes for you to play macchu pichu or however the fuck you spell it Love your covers btw 😍😙😝😍😙😙😛😛😛🤨😶🤨😗😍🤪😍🤣🤨🥲🤪
hey man, what are the changes in your pedal work and pickup selection between all the sections? this is really friggen good!
also what are the tone knobs set to on that epiphone? and if it the same for most songs off is this it?
@@rants5195 Everything is dimed on my guitar knobs usually unless it's the neck pickup for 12:51, the end has no end, etc... Most of the pedal use on the first two albums is really just coming from the two channels on the hot rod deville, using the jekyll and hyde for tone stacking purposes to taste and a micro amp for volume boost.
Where did you get the P94's? as far as i know they are out of production
I've been playing for 10+ years, when I installed those pickups they were still in production.
could you give the specifics for when you use the overdrive and distortion on your jek and hyde? as well as the tone settings on your guitar and amp lol? this shit is spot on dude!!
For every cover in which I use the deville all my settings are at 7, besides volume and reverb. Most of their early work is just the drive channel from the deville, using the jekyll and hyde whenever necessary. In this live performance the only thing that is engaged is the more drive channel for the solo, and then back to the normal drive channel for everything else.
great cover! i just watched them do this live in 2011 and nick had this awesome tone during the solo. sort of sounds like he used the jhs color box do u know if that would be what he used around that time?
Nick started using the colourbox around 2014, in 2011 he was using a Fulltone GT-500, Visual sound double trouble, and the maxon distortion master for all drive tones. This is a picture of his board in 2011 images.app.goo.gl/k6icLW6P5Ddjw2FH7
Wow great tone man
Thank you!!
Great cover my friend!! Nice guitar!! 🤘
Cosplay de Nick valensi muy godd
What version is this???
They've been playing it in a different key in all their live shows since around 2022, this is a live performance recorded from Washington D.C 9/8/22.
@@georgemontague7 yeah I saw videos after I watched this. I'd like to hear a studio version cause I can't decide which one I like better. This one's probably easier for Julian to sing tho.
legend
I just love how the color of your guitar is uniformed with your room
One of the most difficult solo by the strokes ngl the fast alternating picking part is very confusing
Tabs pleaseeeeeee
Pedal settings?
Only pedal I really used was a micro amp for a boost. Just the fender Deville on its drive channel, most knobs on 7... for the pre-chorus/chorus I switch to the more drive channel and the neck pickup (tone on 0).
@@georgemontague7 That helps a lot!! Thank you, could you explain to me how you use the Jekyll and Hyde for different songs and how you have it set up? I just got one and i've been messing around with it but you seem to have a lot more of an idea of what you're doing!! Thank you :)
Here’s pics of my gear/settings if you’re interested. I pretty much copied nicks rig and settings to a T www.reddit.com/r/TheStrokes/comments/134oa6f/i_built_a_replica_of_nick_valensis_recent_guitar/?context=3 Depends on your rig really… for the first two albums, if you have a tube amp like a hot rod deluxe or something I’d just use the built in drive channel for mostly everything. Put the knobs around 7 and go from there. Use the overdrive/distortion on the Jekyll as needed. Just play around with what sounds best… it’s kinda simple.
I subscribe
Great song. Strange ass music video
is the vibrato part just a chorus pedal with the rate all the way up?
Most chorus pedals wouldn't work for that part of the song no matter how you set them, a vibrato pedal with the rate up would be better. The pearl chorus that Nick and I use has a mix knob that allows you to completely remove your dry guitar signal, so you only hear the delayed vibrato. It's definitely a sound that other choruses and even vibratos do not achieve.
Cómo aprendiste a tocar tan limpio??? Pasa tiiiips
It's just practice! Play it over and over again until you can't get it wrong.
Solid!
Thanks!
I love the P94s to complete Nick's sound and aesthetic..
Awesome! My favorite song from that album.
Thanks! Yeah I love how dreamy this song is :)
Very nice!
keren sir
awesome cover man. I always figured nick was running the jekyll and hyde into the clean channel on the deville. never knew how big of a role the drive channel on the deville played. great tones!
Thanks! Yeah I think doing it on the clean channel can sound good too, but it's not quite as accurate. Also I think the distortion channel on the deville is a bit more articulate than any tube screamer or SD-1 variation. But that's just my ears :)
Nice job ! Cuz' i missed the '00 indie rock vibes, i just have launched a new rock project.. Wish i had a guitarist like you for my KYSSINGER project ;-) ! Keep playing !
do you have the pedal settings for this one
Didn't use any pedals! Just the hot rod deville drive channel, all knobs on 7 (except volume and reverb ofc) and switching to the more drive channel for solos.
