The saddest scrapping ever was the r32 and r42 cars because they were both awesome cars and were able to hold up for more than 50 years in service, which is incredible if you ask me. 😮 The redbirds scrapping was also sad when they were dumped into the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of New York to create a “Subway Artificial Reef”under the water for the fishes and other sea life to make new homes. The r44s and r46s are also preparing for scrapping I heard, they are the next ones to go, sadly. What’s also sad was the last remaining r27 car on mta property, 8145, finally being sent for scrapping on October 22, 2013 at sims metal management in nj after being stored around the system until the summer of 2013 as a school car. No r27 cars survive today, but three r30s still survives today, 8506, which is preserved by the ny transit museum and 8429 and 8558 which were converted to rail adhesion cars and stored at the coney island rail yard in brooklyn. All revenue service redbirds were scrapped between October 2001 and January 2004 except for cars at sims metal management in late 2013, which were refuse motors. The nycta r44s were scrapped at sims metal management between October 22, 2013 and December 31, 2014, kinda surprising since they’ve been retired since late 2011. After their retirement, the r44s were mothballed, stripped and placed into storage system-wide. You can still see r44 car, 5240 (originally 172) at the nytm where it is preserved for on-and-off display there.

I liked the Original R40S design from 1967-1969 and 1968 because of its large sort of destination sign that was very bright and easy to see especially with the fact the Pre-1970s R40s were clean and actually looked futuristic but obviously Handholds, chains and Pantograph gates obviously had to be added for passenger safety

I was wondering how they were going to put the R1-9’s back on the path to the Rockaways, interesting choice of routes. There seems to be a love of these and other historic trains both by fans and the general public. I hope the MTA realizes this and keeps these trips going, even when the gentleman who saved them, Bill Wall, retires from the TA. His love of these historic cars is what allows them to exist today for everyone’s pleasure and enjoyment and to preserve NYC Subway history!

Assuming That Option Order 2 (437 cars In 81 five car sets and 8 four car sets) is exercised and is all R211T (both 4-car and 5-car sets), This is how car Assignments could look like once all R211's get delivered basically if option order 2 was all R211T's (A) and Rockaway Park (S): 10-car R179's and Base order R211's (C) Same as the (A) but with 8-car R179's (B) R211A's only (D) Same as the (B) (E) R160's, R211T's (F) Same as the (E) (G) R160's only if option order 2 was all R211T's (J/Z) R143's R179's and 28 R211T's (4-car trains) if option order 2 was all R211T's (M) R160's and 4 R211T's (8-car Trains) (N/W) R68/A's and R160's (if R211T's go to Jamaica Yard, a handful of R160's can return to Coney island Yard for the N/W. The (N) would use R211A's from the (B) during late nights and weekends) (Q) R68/A's only (but it would use R160's and R211A's during late nights and weekends when the (B) and (W) aren't running) (R) R160's only In this scenario if option order 2 only R211T's Jamaica would get 405 R211T's (10-car Trains) to run on the E/F while both 28 R211T's (4-car Trains) and 4 R211T's (8-car trains) will get sent to East New York Yard to run on the J/Z/M Option Order 1 would be R211A's to run on the (B) (D) and for (N) (Q) during weekends and late nights while the N/W gets R160's from Jamaica Yard and R68/A's from Concourse while the Q only gets R211A's and R160's During weekends and late nights when (B) and (W) trains aren't running and this makes the (Q) to only B Division line 100% SMEE's while B and D use only R211A's The B and D in this scenario will have to be 100% R211A's because both the (B) and (W) doesn't run during weekends and late nights
