Welcome! I take random videos on trips, but they just get lost on my hard drives when I return home. I figure (if I ever decide to) it's easier to view them if I upload to UA-cam.
I'm not responsible for any motion sickness due to not having a gimble while recording. :P

The View From a Mikoshi at Kyoto Gion Matsuri (Why I Returned)
My first trip to Japan in 1997 included attending this festival. At the time, all I did was follow a worker from the Utano Youth Hostel around during Yoiyama. I didn't know the intricacies and I didn't venture off on my own. All we did was take the bus from the hostel, walked around the block, and returned. I was dumb and insecure.
In 2024, I returned to experience more and I think this short video documents the highlight of the trip. I finally had an excuse to visit in July.
This is a one per year event. During Yoiyama (and I think Yoiyoiyama) people can pay to enter the homes of people, see their family heirlooms, and climb onto their mikoshi. I think the family is the sponsor of the shrine. Also, because it's a shrine, I bought a goshuin too.

Another One: Shijo Kasaboko Portable Shrine
Переглядів 77 годин тому
The front lantern says, "Shijo Kasaboko", which means Fourth Street Umbrella Pole (per Google Translate). A little sleuthing revealed that the lantern is missing three characters (四条傘鉾保存会). It's some sort of neighborhood organization.
Possibly a Portable Shrine Pulled Throughout Central Kyoto on Yoiyama

While walking around, I can hear the flutes and drums fading in and out. At this time, the sounds were getting louder and louder as we came closer together until we meet. It seems like this small shrine is pulled around the neighborhood in a random pattern. There seems to be several, which would explain being able to hear the sound everywhere. I bump into them several times tonight.
Walking Around the West of Yasaka Jinja on Yoiyama Evening

Every year in July, the Gion Matsuri is held in Kyoto. The grand procession/parade is on July 17 and night before is called the "Yoiyama". Everyone comes out to have fun in Kyoto's Central Business District. All of the streets are closed in about a one square mile area. The streets are also closed two nights before the parade and that night is called, "Yoiyoiyama". This video is a continuation ...
Stage Performance at Yasaka Jinja During Yoiyama Gion Matsuri

I bumped into some sort of performance at Yasaka Jinja tonight (Yoiyama). Of course, I didn't understand of the symbolism of the participants and their actions. I think in the first part Ebisu was fishing for something. He caught five/six envelopes with writing, but it's impossible to read the text. People clapped so it must be good. He tossed candy or something into the crowd after each catch....

Walking around Yasaka Shrine on Yoiyama (よいやま), two evenings (July 15) before Gion Festival parade. The festival is based at this shrine and asks the diety for a good harvest.

Thanks for the analysis! Just a quick off-topic question: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). Could you explain how to move them to Binance?
Who knows? I don't know what you're talking about. Thanks.
Thanks for posting this video, THis proves how far fanime has fallen since I missed the dance hall AND the 24/7 convention access. SO much missed oppurtunities that fanime had that I actually met alot of wonderous people to enjoy.
Actually, this video proves the delinquency of kids and young adults when there isn't any supervision. As I walked through the crowd, people of all ages were smoking, vaping, drinking alcohol, taking hits, and who knows what other drugs were being consumed. Park Con attracted people away from the convention center because there aren't any rules. Fanime is required to restrict drugs and alcohol. The hotels cracked down on parties too. I'm not surprised that this is getting bigger and bigger. Right now, most of the attendees are from the convention, but just hope that local gangs don't show up looking for their own kind of "party". In response, Fanime cut back. Why spend money on something that isn't being used? Next year, I wouldn't be surprised if Fanime eliminated the smaller room.
@@Bakapooru agree with a lot of that~~ that being said AniCLover at the Loft > parkcon :)

Perhaps SF needs to put a big piece of interactive public art in Union Square.
