On the Horizon II. "Hailstorm" — For Trombone Octet
II. Hailstorm*
A heavy waltz. Unrelenting hail pounds against the ground,
leaving nowhere safe to stand. The harsh sound of the impacts
creates a dance-like rhythm that sways back and forth. It is
mesmerizing to watch, but dangerous to interact with.
*Originally titled "Thunderheads" (Some of you may remember)

The first of three movements of my composition "On the Horizon" (2023-24) I. Tempest A thematic overture. Thunder booms in the distance, leaving deafening silence trailing behind. A violent storm breaks out. Steady rainfall and swirling winds whip through the air. Conditions seem to lighten for a moment, but only worsen in the end.
