The Secret Message Behind Grief
Переглядів 13014 днів тому
With so much devastation from the LA wildfires (and potentially more to come), in this week's episode of The Upward Spiral Live, I wanted to share some insights about grief and how it functions in your brain. Grief is your brain's attempt to let go of the important things that are no longer with you. That could be your house, or a friendship, or even just a sense of safety that you no longer ha...
A Neuroscientist's Guide to Turning Self-Doubt Into Strength
Переглядів 8621 день тому
I'm a neuroscientist, Ivy League graduate, and UCLA professor who's sold more than 200,000 books ... and I still DOUBT myself a lot. But I don't worry about it too much anymore. It's a part of having a brain that's a particular combo of analytical, achievement-oriented, and empathic (for example, narcissists don't worry about being disliked). That self-doubt used to be a problem for me, because...

Unfortunately a lot of people set goals in ways that aren't helpful for taking action or living their values. In short, they set goals that ultimately add to their stress instead o...

The three properties I lived in/on in Altadena as a young child burned. I’m decades past sensing them as home AND it’s very “weird” to know they’re gone - as if they should be there forever. I have so much empathy for those who lost so much in their present lives as a consequence of the fires. I've shared this video on Facebook and Bluesky.

I love this information! Thank you so so much for posting it. I just had a meltdown today where I was aware that I was back in an old pattern and became so frustrated that I’ve worked on getting out of it for such a long time and didn’t experience it for long. But here it was and now next time I’ll try to remember also to acknowledge it and not only to become aware of it and try to push it away.
