aople watch has a 1 day battery life lol enough said . and its basically a low quality phone on your wrist . garmin is more realistic as a smart watch. gives you all you need , and if you need more use your phone lol . like texting and phone calls . garmin has a new texting feature and my enduro of 36 day battery life..

In my case the possibility to leave my phone at home while I am on the mountain bike is the best. I have full tracking, real SOS free, can answer messages, check my email, also offline topo maps, everything without the need to carry my phone. That is really great for me. The battery is not an issue, I can charge every two days without issue, just when I go to sleep. So, I used garmin fenix, fr and epic for about 6 years, great watches no doubt, best sportwatches no doubt, but I prefer a smartwatch than a sportwatch, I think this is the decision point.

Apple is for boys. Marq js for men.

I wanted to mention an app called “Run Gap” that allows a person to share data between different platforms. As we know Apple and Garmin are not very compatible. This app allows one to transfer basic data between the two so you can have the best of both worlds in my opinion. Its working so well between Apple Health and Garmin Connect that I will not be renewing the $80/year Strava account and wont be buying a Garmin watch. Garmin Connect is FREE and for my purposes has more than enough bells and whistles. Thanks again for a great video my friend.

Hey Max, Im down here in Colorado Springs. I was directed to your video after Googling “How to transfer routes to Apple Watch Ultra” I had become so frustrated and disappointed after searching for a year for an app that I was about to give up on Apple and go back to Garmin. Well, this app changed all of that. After downloading, I went ahead and paid for it and immediately took it out on a short run and it just knocked my socks off. I am very pleased with it’s functionality and overall performance. At this point, Im not looking over my shoulder at a $500 Garmin watch anymore. The Ultra is enough and fits into my Apple world so well. In fact, I have already imported and exported various routes from Strava and Garmin Connect into the app. It really is very flexible across all these different platforms. O will be canceling my $80/year Strava account and solely using the Free Garmin Connect and Apple Health app now that I have this wonderful “bridge” that allows me to use the best of both worlds. The developer really smacked it out of the park and Im very much looking forward to any updates that will improve it. Thanks for taking the time to make the video. You did an excellent job!

They can provide every single feature that Garmin’s top line watches have and they can do it better but they won’t. You are right Because than how will they extort money from third party app developers and in the name of app store charges, or how will they cut their 30% when you buy a paid service on those app. Bullshit!!! I barely used my apple watch to take calls, send messages. Their battery died when i needed it most. Got fed up Hassle charging it everyday. I ditched my apple watch last year for Garmin forerunner 255 and was very happy with all the analysis and training plans. I bought Epix pro Gen 2 yesterday and i love it. On my wrist It doesn’t look every other rectangle apple watch or Chinese copies of apple watches.

I also sold my ultra 2, and came crawling back for the Marq Adventurer, and even though the Garmin does not have all the smart features, it is really a more complete watch for fitness use than apple’s ultra 2. Great video BTW.

Thanks for the info. I was surprised to hear you say Chautauqua. I did not know Colorado had one. I live close to Chautauqua in New York State but I’m in Pennsylvania near the border. It is a beautiful little town. Looks pretty amazing there also. I run and hike here wheee I live in the Allegheny National Forest and just had my ultra 2 for a week. I appreciate your time.

Apple aren’t interested in making ‘good’ hardware, they’re interested in making ‘good enough’ hardware, then letting the devs take the slack. There was a time when they were a great company, alas that was a long time ago. Now they’re just a machine to make money, which is fine, so long as people know thats what they’re buying into ! If you need more than one 3rd party-apps those annual payments of third party-apps rises ultras price in year or two over garmin price. (f.ex. 3 x 30e/year = 180e in two years)

Man... Garmin watches are not Smarwatches.... once you say it's a smartwatch, you loose credibility.

Great review on the limitations of Ultra2. Apple are a design company and everything get made elsewhere for them in different countries. I only do 5km and really struggled to read it when running, and hear the audio readouts. The marketing was slick but a lie and most of us fell for it. I think this watch is for young americans who like to go shopping (nfc always on) running the odd marathon multiband gps & apple geeks but having to do their work for them by downloading apps to get it to function properly is a joke. 😂

I am a huge fan of both. I guess this will be the first "Porsche" I'll buy :D

I got teh Epix pro 51 mm in December and haven't taken it off since. I like my AWU as a smart watch, but I still prefer the Epix, it looks better, I like the buttons, and it makes me want to go out and exercise because the watch has so many workout features. I keep telling myself Ill use the AWU for work!

Thanks for making these videos. They are thoughtful and well made. I’m in a similar boat, I use Epix 2 for sleeping and all workouts. I use Ultra 2 at the office and day to day life. The Ultra is a better smart watch, the Epix is a better sports/health watch in my opinion. I really want one watch I can wear 24/7 and be done with it. It seems Ultra may be closer, in that Apple is really just missing the sports piece and certain health pieces, while the Garmin would have a long way to go to be a full-on smart watch in an Apple ecosystem in my opinion. Likewise, I don’t like paying for third party apps on Ultra. While the Ultra watch itself is fairly priced, by the time you add up recurring app fees, it’s not so economical. I think I’m at 3-4 paid apps by now. Frustrating. Lol, can we simply have Body Battery built into our Ultras?? In any event, I will stay tuned to see if you solve this puzzle. Thanks.

I own a Fenix 6 Pro which I mainly use for skiing, hiking, open water swimming, weight training. I also have a AW series 4. I just got the AWU2 & I’ve got to say I’m disappointed. It’s basically a regular Apple Watch with a larger screen and titanium case. The marketing of it as a hardcore sports or adventure watch is just marketing. I can’t find what actual additional engineering, software or hardware, that sets it apart. I tried skiing with the AWU2 but as you say you’re Into setting up a 3rd party app (slopes) & it’s really just a pain.

I just purchased the Apple Watch Ultra 2. I’m coming from Apple Watch six and so far I’m loving it. I’m not a professional, biker cyclist runner and/or diver,however, I am very active. I workout at a local gym, I do indoor cycling. I also do indoor outdoor walking and outdoor biking. Sometimes I do go on hikes. I’ve never owned a Garmin or any other fitness watch but this watch is not just for fitness in my opinion for me. It’s also a way for me to leave my phone behind or not be on my phone as much even if it’s with me. I also like the larger display. I can see things a lot easier and of course still get my phone calls and my text messages. I do like your review but you gotta remember that not everyone is going to use this. Watch the same so no it’s not for everyone but it is for others
