Big Human Whiskey Journey - Blind Tasting "FEW Bourbon"
This is the Big Human’s Whiskey Journey where he gets to taste a whiskey blind, with no preconceived ideas and we get his initial reaction. Few Bourbon is made in Illinois. It may be owned by a bigger company, but it’s start was as a craft distillery. And, this bottle is from prior to Few being acquired. So I pour the Big Human a sample of this whiskey to see what his thoughts are. Check it out.

It's a bourbon finished in a pinot nior wine cask. We got to try it and hear all about their special distillery only releases, and how they can do one off barrels such as this Pinot finished Bour...

I put a Starlight Double Oaked Bourbon in front of the...

GAWC - Compilation of Out-Takes

2024 has taken us to some great distilleries and we have discovered some fantastic stories. Along the way, we have had lots of fun, both in front of and behind the camera. However, nothing is quite as fun as watching some of the behind the scenes screw ups. Mostly by Jeff's doing. So we thought we would round out the year with a short compilation of some the more "tame" screw ups, gaffaws, and ...

It's Christmas week and we thought we would give you a run down of the distilleries we have been at in 2024. We share some memorable moments from the distilleries, and Jeff makes the guys pick their favorite (at least their favorite if they could only pour "it" for a week). And of course, the Big Human has to push the envelope and pick 4. Stick around till the end of the episode and see how to ...

Illinois in the house!!
Thanks for watching. It's a bottle I've had for quite a while. Probably need to revisit it with a new bottle.
Sounds and looks very interesting. Actually planning to go to the Dells early this year, looks like Driftless Glen distillery is going to be on the schedule.
Yes most certainly. Put it on your schedule. They often have a distillery only release. Great tour. Give yourself time to eat at the distillery. They seem to always have some new expressions. Let us know what you find.
You’re right, if it tastes good it tastes good, ultimately that’s all that matters.
I’ll take two please 😊
Great idea, hope you get some great whiskey makers
Thanks for watching. If you know of a distillery we should get in contact with, let us know.
“And you’re liking this?” “Yeah, yes I am, yes I am, I’ll probably have to buy it” 😅😂
Yeah, I thought it was pretty funny at the time as well. The Big Human can be surprising. That's one of the things that can be fun.
Go to McLaughlin in Pittsburgh
We have not heard of that distillery, but we will check it out. If we can find a way to get that far East, we will put it at the top of our list. Thanks for watching and for the tip on the Distillery.
@ If you do get there, other than McLauglin, you can also visit Liberty Pole and Wiggle
If you’re going to Iowa, check out Cedar Ridge. Hard Truth in Indiana
Great video, great reviews, thanks for sharing info on these new to me whiskeys
Thank you for watching.
Pursuit DO bourbon was just okay for me. For $80 I would much rather have a JDSBBP, Rare Breed or Bardstown Origin series for cheaper
This is a really good pour….i killed my bottle a while ago and will be getting another
Oh yeah. We know what you mean. We can't get it here in Iowa, so we have to look for it online or when we are out of state. It's a great pour. Thanks for watching.
I had a pour of this while watching….good video and looking forward to the next….it is a good pour
Yeah we agree. It is a good pour. I still have a few other Ben Holladay's to blind the Big Human on I think. Glad you enjoyed the video. Don't forget to like, subscribe and ring the bell if you haven't already. If there is something you want me to blind the Big Human on, let us know.
Nice!
Every thing I have had from Cedar Ridge has been very good to great! Except their bottles seem small.😜🥃
🎶Have yourself a dusty little Christmas 🎵
Hello! Is this still open to enter, or did it close already? Thanks, Merry Christmas and happy holidays!
It is still open. We plan to leave it open till 11:59 pm on the 31st of December 2024.
Oh this was fun to watch
Glad you enjoyed it. I know there were some explicit ones that just didn't make the cut. Maybe we'll throw them up on Patreon.
😊
great episode, like your interview skills Jeff
very cool
It's a great malt whiskey. And, if you dig those types of whiskies, we encourage you to check it out.
Great to see someone step out of their comfort zone. Welcome to the Rye side 😂
Thad gives off young John Goodman vibes
I think you hit the nail right on the head with that.
I love blind tastings
Yep. So do we. I have found it's the best way to guard against any bias/ marketing BS/pricing/etc...
Merry Christmas 🎄
Thanks for watching Sam
Merry Christmas
Thanks for watching Tim
I just picked up 2 bottles yesterday, at $29 a bottle. Was having the first pour as I watched this. Completely agree on the fantastic mouth feel. I really enjoyed that first pour. And that is usually the worst of the bottle. The high malted content of the 4 grains makes it stnad out from all my bourbons. Keeper.
$29 a bottle?! Great price. Yeah, we really enjoy what's coming out of Chattanooga Whiskey Company. Some really great whiskey. Thanks for watching.
Fred Sanford's right. It's a winner, big time. (so was Fred Minnick) Well done, C.R. Makes us Iowa folks proud.
its fantastic
Oh yes! We agree 100% This is a bottle we usually have on our shelf.
Is the different from double oaked?
The double oaked or double barreled (depending on what term you want to use) adds some additional toasty flavors to it. For us, it was more toasted marshmellow, warm oak and some creme brulee. One of the best ways to find the difference is to try this one side by side with their flagship offering.
Kenny & Ryan are great, as is Pursuit Spirits. I was lucky enough to get a bottle of the Double Oak signed by both at a Total Wine event in the late summer. I also HIGHLY recommend you do the "Whole Shebang" tour/experience at Pursuit. It's unlike any other distillery tour.
Yeah, we agree. Kenny and Ryan are great and making some great whiskey. We missed out on doing the "Whole Shebang" only because we were filming and then back on the road. It's certainly on our list of items to do. Thanks for watching and the comment.
Why don’t new bourbon makers, make 375 ml bottles? Would be easier to purchase a 375ml vs a 750ml. “Trial size”
That was cool thank you
Thanks for the comment and for watching. Their still is really quite something. Don't forget to subscribe. We have more coming up.
Great interview with those two. I need to get over there again. So much fun.
Yeah, we had a blast with Mike and Matt. Don't forget to ask to see Mark. : )
Interesting. Love the setup.💪👍🥃
We think so too. Blaum Bros. is definitely on our list to return to in the near future.
I filled a new five-gallon charred oak barrel with fresh distillate and aged it for about two years, producing a pretty darned good whiskey, and then I filled the barrel again with fresh distillate. I have been topping the barrel off about twice a year to make up for evaporation (the angels' share), and it has been aging in that barrel for three and a half years since then. I pulled a bottle from the barrel a couple of weeks ago to test it. Wow!!! I am absolutely stunned by its quality. I have never tasted really fine aged whiskey before, so I have nothing to judge my whisky by, but I think it is something exceptional. I just wonder what the whiskey "experts" would say about it. My plan is to let it continue to age for years. I'll just keep topping the barrel off once or twice each year. It's delicious now. I wonder how it will be years from now.
Great experiment. Having the ability to do that is awesome. Keep us updated on how it's maturing and tasting.
Pretty cool. Enjoyed this video.💪👍🥃
Thanks for watching. We're glad you liked it. And the whiskey is fantastic. Quickly became one of my favs.
What a great story Jeff. Thanks for taking us along. How is the Old Monroe juice?
Great question Mike. I don't remember off the top of my head. I'll have to look it up. I think we talk about it in the tasting video...stay tuned.
I've never met Murphy. I've never meant you either Jeff. We'll make that happen someday. They are doing a nice job down there.
We will certainly make that happen. Hopefully soon. Might have to get you down to the Bourbon Bunker for a tasting
Interesting piece.
1792 picks are usually way better than the normal one
Yeah, I agree. 1792 is one of Kirks favs, but not necessarily one of mine (Jeff's). The Big Human is a fan. However this barrel pick was quite tasty.
Got one today. Can't wait to have a pour.
Curious what you think of it. Do tell.
messy, disorganized, i don't know what's going on. it's a shame too, because you all seem to know what you're talking about. If you want some ides to make this less messy and more organized i am happy to respond
Thanks for the comment and the input. Yeah, it was the first time in doing something like this, so it came out a bit sloppy and disorganized. We'll get better. We would welcome your input on how to improve it. email me at jeff@greatamericanwhiskeycookers.com. I look forward to the conversation.
Love this, can't wait for National Repeal Day! CHEERS!🥃
Happy National Repeal day!!! This Rye was insanely tasty. Try to get your hands on a bottle
Oh my that sounds delicious. I do like Rye/Barley spirits. Dave Johnson's Remus pick is just that. 51/49 @!118.1.
It was incredibly delicious Mike. Blew me away
just opened up my bottle of the batch 15 and holy moly is that good.
Jealous! Envious!
Ohio has a couple of Sib CS of these. I might have to pick one up. Thanks for the review
We hope you like it. Let us know what you think
"I do love Ryes" So many have changed their opinions. Have Thad stop at Hy Vee on Blairs Ferry in CR and pick up Dave's Minor Case pick. It is heavenly. Do a side by side tasting with the shelf bottle just for fun. Cheers!
Oh, that's a great idea. And would make for a great episode. Care to join us for that one?
Love the juice!
You didn't taste it I'm interested in what you think of their juice. I subbed so maybe you can do another show with tasting notes and maybe comparing it to other craft distillers. Its nice to see them making their own product even on a smaller scale. I'm not against NDP just seeing how craft is the up and comer. Enjoy!🥃🥃🥃
Thanks for subscribing and watching the video. We appreciate it. We actually tasted both expressions and the first of those video's will be released next Tuesday. So if you rang the bell, you should get notified when we publish that video. It's in post-production as I type. I like the idea of trying it against other craft distillers. We might have to do an episode on that. Thanks for the idea. Cheers.
Where is the tasting of the 10,000 drops?
Thanks for watching. Here is a link to the tasting we did with the guys at 10,000 drops when we filmed. You can also find all the 10,000 drops videos in the associated playlist. ua-cam.com/video/pYtVf9r2X3k/v-deo.html However, in looking back through the videos we posted, I don't think we ever put one up from a Bourbon Bunker tasting. We will get one done. Thanks for pointing that out.
Here ya go. ua-cam.com/video/tbU86zckap4/v-deo.html. It's in the Bourbon Bunker tastings playlist.
My favorite Rye.
