Are Adam and Eve to be seen Literally or mythologically? #religion #religiondebate #christianity
This video discusses the biblical story of Adam and Eve, arguing that it's both mythological and real. Peter connects the creation story to his personal experience, tracing his life from conception to birth, drawing parallels between his journey from the womb to the world and Adam and Eve's expulsion from Eden. This parallels humanity's journey, emphasising the importance of choice and the consequences of actions. Ultimately, Peter proposes that understanding this dual nature of the Adam and Eve narrative helps us avoid solipsism and embrace a broader perspective on faith. Peter concludes by suggesting further reading to explore these ideas.

2007 Revisited in 2025 #religion #religiondebate #christianity

This video recounts my experiences in churches across denominations and cultures. It begins with a 2007 entry from an article written for a parish magazine, in which I expressed a desire to be kinder to preachers, acknowledging the diversity of preaching styles and the importance of listening to one's inner voice. I share an account of attending a service at the "Beautiful Calvary Temple" in Ka...

...Have we pushed sequential logic beyond reason and into dogma? I think it's time to rediscover our Spiritual ancestry and the roots of our Judaic Christian Heritage. God is with us now, an ever present, (Omnipresent) so why waste time seeking him. He created us immortal to be with him, and despite our self-centredness, wants us still. In this video, I want viewers to appreciate the value of talking to God as he is already in in your spiritual life. The Materialist, of course, will see no sense in this as he ignores the spiritual side of his nature: But God really does move through the time-space barrier. The Scriptures, Creeds, Hymns Music and other writings illuminate this life, and help us discover what is behind and beyon...

Life, like a brimming jug with an ever-running tap, often overflows with memories, ideas, and questions. I’ve mixed in potions from parables, measures from the gospels and the s...

A few weeks ago, I presided over a funeral at a local crematorium for the brother of a close friend. Having conducted funerals for many years, I’ve observed intriguing shifts in behaviour among the bereaved, as well as changes within the religious institutions and crematoria where these solemn ceremonies take place. Before the 1960s, Birth, Wedding, and Funeral rites were regarded by most peopl...

This view from the Pew was first published in the March 2009 edition of parish magazine when I said, that, I had noticed how every generation believes theirs to be more capable and knowledgeable than the previous one. Last month, I revealed the unease I felt during a charismatic service of such duration and energy, that I was worried my visible failure to participate, would be seen as evidence of a sin of such magnitude, that the three thousand strong congregation would somehow want to relieve me of its burden. I know that many people enjoy this style of service but on that occasion at least, I was relieved ...

A convert to Catholicism, G. C. Chesterton is well known for saying; “The problem with disbelieving in God is not that a man ends up believing in nothing. Alas, it is far more serious. He ends up believing anything. Appropriate to today’s Britain is his lesser-known saying, “A society is in decay, final or transitional, when common sense becomes uncommon.” We cannot live our lives without belie...

Last month I light-heatedly referred to one of my sins of omission. This got me thinking about sin in the biblical sense that sin is any thought, word or deed that has the effect of separating us from God: the one who created us to share eternal life with him. Sin is a three-letter word about seven millimetres in spatial length but, in the biblical sense can be as long as infinity. This leads m...

I expect readers of this column noticed that my sin of omission last month, was to forget to write it! Advent comes from a Latin word meaning Arrival, and although we know there could have been no preparation at all for the arrival of the baby Jesus in the stable, some of us know a bit about preparing for the birth of an animal in a stable or, in my case, a sheep shed......... This is not the first time I have talked of Auctions, and last week I was at one again when I sold several items of sheep handling equipment. We do not now have enough sheep to warrant the equipment, and so it has gone to people who will get its benefit. I’m happy with that as, on balance, I got about...

Adam and Eve not only did not exist in history, but nor even could possibly have existed, we know this for a number of reasons, not least because we know where the story was taken from, regarding Moses, he also never existed as a historical figure either. Almost all Christian and bible scholars accept this. On the punishment in the Eden account: God was an absolute monster for punishing two people who literally did not know right from wrong. Plus, to say the Genesis account is both literal and myth, is to completely misunderstand the literary genre it belongs to. Saying God did not intend for Adam to be whatever; this too is absurd considering that God is supposed to be omniscient all knowing, knowing the future, which discounts that as an option.

The "real" question here is why would such an intelligent & all knowing deity leave this & other outrageous stories up for debate on their literal value? If such stories as this like Job and Noah's Ark are going to be left up to individual interpretation then it opens up all the Bible text to even further scrutiny, evaluation & debate. Either one should believe this so called holy text or not, no parsing here! God should be knowing what he's doing here, right?

As Christopher Hitchens said, either all religions are true; only one of them is true (and I’d add, that counts for denominations within religions), or none of them are true. And since most believe *their* denomination is the *true* religion, we have a decent clue about the reality.

The theory of evolution is rational also if we think about our planet or even universum. We do not know, how many phases there are different processes of matter and life in our galaxy.

You are entitled to believe whatever you think best but no amount of belief ever made something a fact. You are simply offering an opinion which is not supported by the evidence. Biologically, we cannot have derived from a single pair of humans within the timescale of the bible. We should also question why your god would create Adam with DNA that so closely matched that of the primates and why we share errors in that DNA with the higher apes, not only in the code itself but in the exact multiple locations on the genes. This can only have occurred through a shared common ancestor. If we then try to make logical sense of the whole tale of Genesis 2 etc, we find so many problems that show us it simply cannot be true.

I am sorry Peter. I dont share your explanation. You appear to be injecting your own opinions of creation on your viewers but opinions need to make sense. You are confusing me. There is either a creator or not. If God is omnipotent then he did not need to use dust to create Adam. He could have wished him into existence. These biblical claims makes sense to people who are too lazy to learn and analyze existing data that refutes these made up stories. It appeals to primitive ,simple minded people.

Uncle Edgar was a person whom I could trust and with whom I could share my feelings, questions, and frustrations. He was certainly a “father” figure to me. But not everyone has had a male figure with whom they have had a positive experience. When we pray extemporaneous prayers, we can use whatever language makes us feel close to God. Developing a prayerful, close relationship with God is more important than the words we use in my opinion (which could be wrong, of course. )

Hello Brenda. Yes, I do agree with you there is a transcendental aspect to our relationship with God in which the limits of our vocabulary are insufficient to convey our deepest 'feelings'. In prayer, like you, I try to be totally honest with God. In fact I am being totally honest with myself because God himself 'knows' our thoughts. When we accept the truth about ourselves our minds are then open to the holy spirit. Thank you for your support. Peter

You mention the birth of science. Its a funny thing that folk can't seem to see that we are scientific, philosophical and theological. Science, philosophy and theology are three different things. Doug Axe wrote a book called Unbelievable, where he coins the term "common science", the type of things we all do everyday.

Well it is mistitled for a start. It is titled 'who not what is god' but you start off by saying it is about 'who or what is god' if you want to know something about god, the nature of reality, truth, etc.. you'd be better off checking out some NDE videos. Then you would be consulting the most modern facts.
