2024 Cleveland National Air Show Highlights!
The 2024 Cleveland National Air Show took place on Labor Day weekend, a tradition dating back 60 years! The show consisted of 3 days of civilian and military acts/demos as well as some amazing static display aircraft. Unfortunately, many of the acts were canceled prior to show weekend. Rumors are that the F-35B demo and the C-17 demo were canceled due to both aircraft being deployed. On Monday’s show (the show I happened to be at), the F-15 flyby was canceled to aircraft maintenance issues. Very disappointing for sure. However, the A-10C demo (its final appearance in Cleveland) is always great, and the Blue Angels rocked their performance as usual, despite having some unexpected issues themselves. Overall, it was a great air show and I am excited to see what next year brings!
Be sure to check out the extended Blue Angels video with a more in depth explanation of what happened:

With such a jam packed Air Show line up at Cleveland’s Burke Lakefront Airport for the 2023 Cleveland National Air Show, some of the demo teams (particularly the KC-135, the F-22 Raptor, and the USAF Thunderbirds) operated out of Cleveland Hopkins International. Even a couple of F-15’s made a surprise arrival! Though nothing can compare to the show these demos teams can really bring, watching t...

Taking the "show must go on" phrase seriously huh. Well that's pretty cool how they managed to get the #7 jet up to join. I did notice though, some of their maneuvers towards the end at 16:50 17:49 and 18:14 are not ones I saw when I saw the Blues in person in 2022 and 2023. Guessing the first two are relatively new and the last one is just them breaking off to land?
I was there
Nothing happened, I don't understand.
The #2 jet had a malfunction during the show, then had to land. The extra #7 jet then continued the show in its place.
@@cleaviation4409 Ohhhh
BTW... Hats off to Lcdr Amanda Lee for jumping from the slot position to the right-wingman position and did it flawlessly! It can't be easy transitioning mid show from having 3 jet in front of you always viewing them from the slot position to the right wingman position where you're looking only to your left and making correction relative to your position under the boss's wing! Bravo !!!
I agree! To practice as much as they do in their respective positions, then to completely change to a different position after practicing something else for so long just proves how amazing these pilots are!
I saw it #2 bug out behind the city then on one of his orbits noticed the gear down and thought the same thing,,,, gear issue? Went back to my video and didn't see anything blaring either. After landing it almost sounded like one engine was out but that's just my speculation. #2 did not depart after the show with the rest of them, then Bert came back to BKL on Thursday around 1600 to deliver a part!
Either way it was cool to watch what happens when the show doesn’t go as planned! The fact that they were able to get #7 up to finish the show was awesome! Not gonna lie, a five man delta break just would not have been as special with just 5 jets
You can hear the Boss announcing “Diamond Burner Go, Low Transition, Left turnout” as the takeoff maneuver. No intention to loop. This was due to clouds. Will hear him make the high show/low show call after departure (if you can listen to comms) and they can survey the clouds from altitude. #2 had engine problems. Was an issue all week. Jet was stuck until Thursday, until a part was delivered that morning. Plane was up, and heading back to Florida within 45 min after Fat Albert dropped the part off. Good video!
Thanks for the comment! Where I was standing I could not hear the PA system at all and I’m shocked it came through as loud as it did in the video. And I learned about the left engine issue the day after I had edited and uploaded the video. The landing gear rumor was just what people were saying at the show. Either way, it was cool to see what happens when a jet has a malfunction during a show
*National
I landed on 28 years ago in a 737-200 in a pouring rainstorm at 11 pm, we used every foot of that short 6000 ft rwy.
I’d love to see a video of an approach to that runway…I’ve not been lucky enough to find one yet
❤❤
Really fantastic catches 👏
Thank you very much!
Vertical climb❤ Nice capturing 😍
Thank you! All of the demos were amazing, and this years line up was like nothing I’ve ever seen before! Hopefully next year will be just as great!
It's hard to get a good grasp of what the F-22 does on video. But in person, it's the only aircraft in the show that seems to dance in the sky, ignoring the laws of physics in the process. If you get a chance to watch a Raptor in person, do so.
Watching him using the thrust vectoring while doing the power loop and shooting off flares while doing it was one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen! It’s like the nose was completely stationary while the rest of the aircraft rotated around it
The F-22 is a thing of beauty. What an incredible aircraft.
I’ve seen many videos about the F-22 demo, and they’re always amazing. But to actually see it in person is a completely different ballgame, and by far the best demo I’ve ever seen!
Why do the Thunderbirds fly in from Hopkins as opposed to using the runway at Burke?
I honestly don’t know. The Blue Angels take of the BKL when they’re in town. Maybe is has something to do with the takeoff length? I don’t know what the takeoff lengths are for either the F-16 or F-18
1:45 - My mom's friend was on that flight!
Thanks again ,what a great day to spot.
It was a gorgeous day for sure. Best of the year so far!
Nicely captured 👌 Keep it up 👍
Thank you! Much appreciated!
Nice thnx
It landed yesterday, 12/16/2022 at about 16:05. I'm 3.1 miles from the north end of the runways, close to the glide path. It was impressive. Very quiet. You have to stop and watch.
12:00 That JT9D-7R4D spool up & roar is music to my ears! I have several videos of N651GT and N653GT thus far! By far my favorites. ✈️👍
I think they have changed up the landing pattern, the past two times I've come into Hopkins in April and august we landed from the southwest
so, im not sure what app you use to track these, but on my flight radar app it seems as if only one runway is in operation, why Is thAT
Hi 👋 Nice plane spotting!
Hey, did a American 787 just at Cleveland?????
Unfortunately I did not. I was trying too but the weather was not cooperating. There is another UA-cam channel that spots Cleveland and I’m pretty sure he got it though! I think the channel name is Nickflies
But yes it was the Philadelphia Eagles charter plane
Your back at my favorite local airport 👍
UR BACK! I can’t wait to see more! This makes my day!
Glad to see you back!
Glad to see you back at it!!
Beautiful!
As Always Great,glad you are back,thank. Jack.G
YES YOUR BACK! 😎😃
Great catches mate👍
Been wondering where in the hell have ya been.
Not sure if delta had different engines back in 2018 but the A319 and MD90 sound was a show.
I’ve always loved the MD-80, 88, and 9o, specifically because how loud it is during the takeoff!
Damn, that Md-11 was thrilling, so was the delta a319, that sound is awesome
I’ve rarely seen an MD-11 takeoff at Cleveland (mostly because they do so at night), and to see this one take off as steep as it did was amazing! And you’re right, the A319 sounded amazing! I wish the MD-80s, 88s, and 90s were still flying though because I loved the sound those engine made!
There is only 3-5 of those liveries when u filmed this.
gold southwest
I didn’t know it at the time, but someone told me about it shortly after I filmed the video. I grew up with the gold liveries, and didn’t pay much attention to aviation until I made these videos, so I thought it was just an older plane haha
I really enjoyed your videos. Best of luck to you. Hopefully you'll be able to plane spot with your kid(s?) in a few years!
Thank you! Im certainly hoping that I can pass this on to my children, as it was the way I first got interested in it! Thank you for your support!

This channel was great. Congratulations on your marriage and family.
Thank you much! It’s and exciting time for sure but I am sad to let the channel go
@@cleaviation4409 it was nice seeing someone highlight my hometown airport but definitely understand. Your family is much more important.
Plz don’t quit. :( You have gotten almost 400 subs! That’s a great achievement! Plz I’m a huge fan! I very sad to see your channel go!
I wish I could keep it going but I just don’t have the time to make them anymore. I will attempt to upload stuff when I am able to, but unfortunately it will not be on a consistent basis
I’m still wondering why runway 10/28 is not used. Have any answers?
Honestly I’m not sure why. All I can think of is that It’s a very short runway and crosses the other two larger runways. Cleveland typically operates that departures and arrivals use different runways (not in all cases, especially when one of the runways is under maintenance). It’s much more efficient to operate parallel runways verses crossing runways. That said, I’ve seen two planes land on the runway, and both of them were due to weather conditions. High crosswinds can cause smaller airplanes to use the runway
@@cleaviation4409 thank for the info! I remember seeing an old video about an Embraer ERJ 145 takeoff from runway 10/28. Now unfortunately, I can’t find the video again with is very disappointing for me. BUT a a fact about Cleveland Hopkins is that the runways used to intersect. And there was a video from 2007 that showed a united Boeing 737 taking off and the runways intersected. Also I’m very happy that ur back! I can’t wait to see more!
I think 10/28 is too short. You got the valley on the western edge. I miss the old 18/36 runway that was rarely used. I loved watching landings on that runway.
Thank you for your dedication to the channel during some of the most challenging times in modern aviation history. Your passion is appreciated!
Thank you for your support! I certainly hope that I am able to get back out there at some point…we shall see!
Thank you for all the hard work I never thought it would come to an end have a great 2022
Thank you, and thank you for your support! The channel would not have gone on this long worth out your support!
How do you know where the planes are arriving from? Do you look up the schedule online or something?
I use Flightradar24. It’s an app that live tracks aircraft and also lists the arrivals and departures for specific airports. There are other apps you can use to track flight but Flightradar24 is the easiest to use in my opinion!
@@cleaviation4409 Thanks for the info!

And thank you for the content and work you’ve provided for the channel. Much appreciated! You were able to provide some great shots of some awesome planes!
@@cleaviation4409 Of course! If you ever want some shots I get here and there so you can still post, I’d be happy too
@@tommyhagan8157 absolutely! I’ll never turn that down haha. You know how to get a hold of me haha
I enjoyed all of your videos. I’ve been following probably for 6 months. Thank you for all your videos and hard work put into them, sad to see that you won’t be posting anymore 😭
I’m hoping that I can sporadically post every now and then, but for now, given my circumstances, this is the unfortunate decision I’ve had to make. Thank you for your support!
I was wondering if you quit videos or was doing it under a new name. Even though my airline career was all spent at CMH , starting in the 1970s until my retirement, I have a special fondness for CLE (and the City of Cleveland itself) because I saw my very 1st B747 (UA) at CLE when jumbos were a common site at USA airports of all sizes. When you are able to post a video, be sure to keep the snappy intro.
I wish the 747s were more common than they are now, or any heavies really. Thank you for the support and I promise to keep the intro haha
