Remember reading reviews of this in NME when it came out.........fifty years later, I finally get to hear it..came here via Stuart Maconie playing 'Feelin' reelin' squeelin''..wanted to see who wrote it - credited to 'Ellidge'...Google, Wikipedia, learned his full name was Robert Wyatt-Ellidge- who knew? Also that he was close relative of Woodrow Wyatt, the News of the World columnist who peddled right-wing claptrap. It's a funny old world, in't it?
I wish he'd kept doing stuff like this. Much prefer it to his ambient work. Guitar work here genuinely kicks ass.
Edward Vesala...a music god
Wonderful
I got this when it came out. It's got the voices of the Baader Meinhof gang - Red Army Faction. Groovy AF.
His style of writing is so unpredictable very progressive actually and that voice! Superlungs!
I have had this album since it was still fairly new. It was and still is a revelation.
A song that sounds as fresh as the day it was released.

I can think of nowhere I would rather be Reading morning papers, drinking morning tea She clutches the tray, and then we talk just like a kitchen-sink play Nothing ventured, nothing gained Living so close to danger even your friends are strangers Don't count upon their company Places for the fingers, places for the nails Hidden in the kitchen, right behind the scales What do I care? I'm wasting fingers like I had them to spare Plugging holes in the Zuiderzee Punishing Paul for Peter, don't ever trust those meters What you believe is what you see In another country, with another name Maybe things are different, maybe they're the same Back on the trail, the seven soldiers read the papers and mail But the news, it doesn't change Swinging about through creepers, parachutes caught on steeples Heroes are born, but heroes die Just a few days, a little practice and some holiday pay We're all sure you'll make the grade Mother of God, if you care, we're on a train to nowhere Please, put a cross upon our eyes Take me, I'm nearly ready, you can take me To the raincoat in the sky Take me, my little pastry mother, take me There's a pie shop in the sky
Merci ECM ...
Oh come ON… what exactly IS going on with these flipping creative types WHAT DO THEY THINK THEY ARE DOING??? 😮
BOUGHT MY LP VINYL IN 1977, AND LATER, ON, A CD.. JUST PLAYED THE VYNAL, AFTE SEVERAL YEARS, STLL THE BEST VERSION.
Beautiful freedom!!!!
The first day The dawning of life ❤
Richard's first solo album, which is apparently one of the poorest selling records of all time, but has affinities with his current work at times.
:'(
I was fortunate to attend Cornish College in Seattle where Julian was a long-time professor. (Hadley Caliman, too.) Great talent and amazing man. Still is.
Parts of this song are written in 3/4 or waltz time, rather unusual in rock music.
Oh the women choir, Beatles never had that, ok Dennis Wilson on Got To Know A Woman yeah he nailed it really well...
Just heard this album for the first time. Took me to an unexpexted calm and at times wild trip.
This has a Cajun music sound to it.
Mr. Manzanera.. Guitar GOD!
I recall ! It was a contractual release. Which is why the cover is so bad. Was it the first non Elektra release … possibly
Is this from Britain's Got No Talent?
😂dood...i see shadow people😂
Still mostly unknown, but undeniably one of the top three or four punk/noise bands ever.
What would improve this song would be Kate Bush
Damn thats good
Never heard before. B side of Kings Lead Hat: so we are in After Science period (that record is a masterpiece in rock history) but the sound of this song has nothing to do with Before and after. Good idea to put it in a b side.
Interesting to see what he could have done with Led Zeppelin. But then, Planty is big boots to fill.
Forgotten Love on Jaco's Debut must have had more than a little influence from Bley.
Best acoustic jazz guitar album of all times. Bill is a strory teller with an unparalleld mixture of technique and expression. Have been listening to this album for 44 years now. To be honest, all his later stuff doesn't touch me at all.

After being knocked speechless by 'Timeless', I needed more Abercrombie/DeJohnette and I found this album and was even more blown away.
Stumbled across this piece, very nice Terry!
Great great track from a great great LP by a great great group. Shame ECM opted to reissue the inferior 'Cerberus' in its entirety instead of the other three JAPO dates.
Great singer. She covered the Hollies song Pay you back with interest.
love so much - to discover all your work - thanks god
wonderful - barre phillips - a dream at st.philomene - please sorry with me
Wonderful
MIKE NOCK (p), Eddie Gomez (b) and Jon Christensen (d) in 1981.
esta musica salvo la humanidad
This is one of the very few successful examples of carrying the sonic implications of Hendrix into Jazz. Albeit in a distinctly Nordic way. These changes are amazing to boot.
