Nice! Wonderful! How much? Thk's 🙏😉📻
I am new to HF and I bought this based on ALL the good UA-cam reviews and have been working it, LUV this radio....😁
I was looking fore one of these things, and here it is. The video isn't even twenty four hours old, and it's already gone. LOL
Sorry. It's definitely a beautiful radio just out of the realm for what I want for myself. Most likely I could have repaired it if I really wanted to invest the time and effort. It's going to a good operator who will appreciate it for many years to come.
Will you be at the Vintage Electronics Expo in Waterford tomorrow?
I didn't know there was anything like that going on. Unfortunately probably not based on I'm so busy with other responsibilities.
Its a beauty!
@@jeffd9811 it's a great radio for a collector. I'm not a radio collector anymore. I will be slowly downsizing what I do have.
C.B. JUNK W4GSM
That's your opinion but there's many that are using them on the HF bands daily and getting great reports. Holding a piece of paper in your hand or having it on the wall with a specialized call sign dedicated to you as an individual to operate radio frequencies doesn't make you any better of a radio operator in my opinion. Spending thousands and thousands of dollars on fancy equipment is not an option for everyone. If someone finds enjoyment from a lower priced....let's say "entry-level radio" that's really all that should matter.
👍
The noise reduction is still in the infant stages but overall the radio is good and does 95 watts PEP easy on am and ssb and 40 watts max on fm and the fm sounds way better then any old radio
I usually see over 50 watts on my LP 100A on FM when properly adjusted. Myself personally have never been a fan of radios that have DSP noise reduction. I'm much rather prefer to have an external source for noise reduction. Something that has more adjustability than just a on-off setting or a basic level setting.
@@N8MJS Yea 50 watts is too much for 100 peak overall. In reality it should be only 25 watts on any carrier AM or FM. A 1:4 ratio. Yea you can run it at 50 but not necessary you would not see a signal change on the other end So less stress on the radio.
Hmmmm... I might have to buy one of these, I have the Anytone AT-6666 and this seems to have all the features the AT-6666 does not have.
i think its the same shell but the internals are totally different from what ive seen videos on
It's more for the amateur radio hobbyist. They offer some advanced features the original did not. I've been making good contacts mobile on 10-meter SSB with a base load whip antenna. Yes, some will still use them on the unlicensed bands. But you could say that about Kenwood, Icom, Yaesu as well.
Great video! It is always fun to try a new antenna de W2CSI
I also have a TA53M, thanks for the info, de ZF1PB
Unfortunately mine is still in its temporary location but I'm still using it daily and making contacts. Eventually it will be up on a roof mounted tower. Something similar to a Glenn Martin roof tower. 73
That's massive! I like the Dummy Load, it stays cool all the Time. Looking great. 73 de Uncle Günter across the Pond 💯👍🙋♂
What’s the new software do
Looking like a Dxing CB Antenna 2000 @ that Height Uk no problem + Top Class SWR 1.05 on AA 55 Rig Expert 👍 Scotland 73s...
Nice setup. I'm looking for a unit that will automatically switch to the proper antenna for a remote HF station. I think the next higher up model from Dx Engineering does this.
That sounds like it definitely would be a good option if that's what you're looking for. I actually really enjoy this switch from DX engineering. The isolation from antenna to antenna is absolutely incredible.
I don’t like tuners either. I make more contacts with a resonant antenna I noticed
Looking great. 👍
That Shooting Star works well. Sad to see it go.
It's not going anywhere. Maybe it's happening like this for a reason and I probably would have regretted having it taken down anyways. The HF antenna for most likely be going on a Glenn Martin style roof tower.
What beautiful Dog 💯🤗😍👍
@@DK5ONV I have a male and a female German Shepherd. This by far my absolute favorite breed of dog.
Honestly 6666pro vs qt80 any advantages do I need to buy a mic or anything
Both radios are the same, just different brands. The microphone is personal preference.

Hope things go well. 6 Meters can be a fun band. We had it open at night during summer with a G5 solar storm. Sounded weird with the distortion . 10 meters tried to open as well. I got FT8 to NYC. Nice hop across the state. on 10 meter ! was some 6 meter FT8 as well. was hard for the contacts with the S7 noise floor. The sun did that. We had a angry red sky ! The northern lights we got was all shades of red that time. the outher time had some green . I know hams that talked 2 meter SSB to Hawaii with tropospheric ducting . I get more 70 CM ducting hear. But still 2 meters. Some times 10 and 6 meters. I have been told 900 and 1296 can do it as well. I only have a SDR for them bands. 73
@@robertmeyer4744 It got delayed until next week, we have high winds today.
@@N8MJS Same hear in NY. Quit windy . Did not get my end fed up to try 10/11/12 meters . The snow is deep and windy ! My DX Commander 10 meter pole is ok in winds but the cold bite in the air stopped me.

The 13 element will tune flat for ya ..you should expect some pattern distortion from metals within the near field. Will outperform those verts without a doubt for gain
Only suggestion not that your asking ,lol is u can bring the connects closer. I've used 2 inches w 80kw pep w/out arcs. The reason is to try to make coax a T instead of a Y shape . Keep in mind all antennas work best with perpendicular feed points. Say wassup to grease monkey we contacted few days ago...44Magnum on da pile
I bought mine from Knights CB shop here in the UK where I live. He automatically updated the firmware for me. Mine's the Anytone 6666pro. Had this radio 2 days now and wow. I've boxed my SS9900 up as don't need it now.
SS9900 still a good performer. I have one and enjoy it for an older designed radio. I don't use it anymore, but enjoy knowing it's available if needed.
Great video! de W2CSI
Thanks!
Nice filter testing. I only have 2 band pass filters. 10 and 20 meter 300 watt ones. They work good. I tested with Nano VNA H4 . I have some low pass filters as well. the MFJ 1.5 Kw one and the RM italy one. RM still makes 2 low pass filters. I got a diplexer as well. 1.8 to 30 MHZ in 1 port. 50 to 250 MHZ on 2nd port. It is a high pass and low pass together . I found another way to use it for testing . Put HF amp on common port. watt meter and dummy load on each of 2 ports. Lets me measure 2nd and 3rd harmonic like on 10 meter. I did that for testing a dirty amp. Just something I picked up a hamfest . it's rated 1.5 KW and bigger then anything showed in video. it is at least 2 X the size of that drake. You can use them filters on like one of them KL 203P amps and see how much they clean up 2nd and 3rd harmonic. I have seen AM broadcast traps for 50 ohm feed like. some 160 meter radios gets wiped out from AM stations. Like the G90 . 60 MHZ range would be in the TV VHF LOW band. Still in use . they just switched format from NTSC to ATSC . Only the upper TV channels reassigned to cell phones. I think 3G and 4G . Most TV broadest hear in my part of NY is all UHF . There was some low power analog VHF stations but gone now. Their is a 4 meter ham band in UK around 70 MHZ . 73
It's funny you mentioned the television broadcast band. I just recently cut the cord with cable company. No reason to pay high prices for loads of channels I never watch. I will be going with a standard HD television antenna for local programming ect. My wife asked me in her words. Won't your radio's interfere with television 😂 I said generally everything is so high and frequency now that it's not going to be a problem especially since I'm not running equipment that would really be an issue. There's ways you can stream the local channels but still everybody's out to take your $$$ per month. Since the antenna installers will be coming in a few weeks time to switch out my antennas it's a good time to have them put a TV antenna up there if at all possible since they do that primarily on a daily basis. I just recently picked up a nano VNA. I haven't had a chance to even try it. I really like testing things and seeing how filters work ect. Just something new to play with I guess. Right now I'm playing with a half wave horizontal rigid dipole for 11 m. It's almost in the finishing touches just waiting for daylight today. This will be going up on my tower just below the Solarcon Max 2000 optimizer. 73

Very Interesting Video 👍 Scotland 73s.

Top Class Interesting Video { Testing Filters } 👍 Scotland 73s.
Nice antenna. My experience is that coiled up coax balun was ineffective. The manual says use one but that is bad advice. I got incorrect swr readings because of rf leaking onto the braid. I used a 1:1 toroid balun instead. No more incorrect swr or wavy lines on the shack computer monitor. Cheers VK5LB
From my experience common mode current doesn't cause SWR issues. I have a 2 ft piece of RG213 that has 7 mix 31 ferrites. I plan on putting that on one of the ends of the lightning arrester outside at the base of the tower. I have another one I can use in the shack if need be. I'll trust the engineers at Mosley, based on multiple conversations about this topic with them. 73
@@N8MJS HyGain in my Explorer 14 yagi suggest rolling coax into a current choke but recommend a Balun that they sell because it is considerably more efficient. If you have not experienced any problems (common mode current doesn't cause SWR issues) with you have been fortunate because I can assure they do. Common mode currents can cause problems with VSWR meter readings because they can affect the complex voltage and current being sampled. If interested you might peruse the attached article or Google the subject as there is plenty of evidence of the relationship between VSWR measurements, Standing waves and unblanced/balanced loads. ## w1yca.org/docs/vswr.pdf ## en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standing_wave_ratio#:~:text=By%20sampling%20the%20complex%20voltage,the%20forward%20and%20reflected%20power. ## ham.stackexchange.com/questions/12177/exactly-why-do-some-swr-meters-give-a-changing-reading-depending-on-the-length-o

@@AB1Vampire thanks. It's been doing pretty good so far 7 ft or so off the ground.
Do you have to tune that endfed on any of the bands its advertised to work on?
@@jameyevans29 no I find that the only band that might need some tuning on the radios ATU is the 80M, because mine is designed for the upper half which the old-timers call the 75 m portion.

Nice AMP. I have the AL 572 . 4 tube 1.3KW 572/B tube version. 572/B tubes are drop in for 811A . gives longer life not more power. That is the power supply and tank circuit limits. Some of them 3 tube ones had a swamping resistor off one of the tubes threw a cap. It kind of looks like a transistor buy has 2 leads . It is non inductive . Some have MOV on board or GDT . depending on age. They go bad if a tube flashover. The china 811A known for that. I tune up under low power drive and bring up to where I want and re tune and dip grid current. If way out of tune on full power the air variable caps can arc and damage them. For digital modes drop drive way down like for or AM or FM. The duty cycle is what to watch for. I keep my 572 down to 800 watts or less. Much less digital unless a short burst. I got Russian 572/B tubes and JAN Cetron ones . Penta labs have heavy duty 811A and 572/B now .If you ever need tubs check out penta labs . Or use like RF parts . The new 3-500ZG have wight base and are better . 73
I should have kept the amplifier in today's mindset. Back then my interests aligned differently.
@@N8MJS I understand that. I went threw a similar stage in my hobby's. 73

You could get phasing tape from an electrical store for the color coding
Yeah I got some tape coming tomorrow to mark the elements. Probably all I can do cuz it's supposed to be a rainy day tomorrow. Mark them in sand them slightly to get the burrs off.
Congratulations. Do a video on your antenna farm please
I seen that happen with large can caps in power supply's before .
Kind of strange but glad I caught on quickly to it.
Good job!
Great info. Thank you. Do you know if older software on this radio didn't have 15 meters? Also why do some versions of this radio only have 2 pins instead of 3 for the frequency expansion jumper?
I've never seen one that was different. Yes the original firmware still allowed for 15 meter use.
