It has everything to do with the person... is there any common ground for you to stand on? If not, are they willing to build a bridge and meet halfway?
Love how real she is.
She's the best!
I'm pretty sure that she and AdRock are just constantly fucking with people's minds. They are the snarkiest!!
They are pretty fantastic
I love listening to her talk about ....everything. I mean, both of y'all were great here, Pam definitely giving as good conversationally! It was a fantastic podcast all around. But yeah. Man, every time I listen to a long interview or podcast with JB I'm just like "can I just be in this friends group and talk about ....books and praxis and doing what you can do and criticizing the system and letting yourself both judge and not judge people, and also ...dogs" (BEANSSS HI)
57:20 You guys are great!
Very interesting, for me as a brit, to hear about the differences between LA and New York.
Great interview, thanks!
❤
She is the biggest who gives a damn and all the music I don’t even consider a musician she just sucks
I love her so much. She saved my life as a teen who had been raped. I respect her on the highest level. I think I'd freeze if i met her. Someday, maybe!
I met her during my first year of college in Chicago in 2001. I had had dreams of hugging her. And then I actually hugged her. And babbled incoherently. She's everything you think she is.
@@filmlover123 So happy for you!
genius .. ❤ you julien
Could you post the name of the microphone you all discussed? I couldn’t quite catch it.
Genius😊
DFYF: Don’t f your fans lol
I just love Harvey. He is s sweetheart and his character in what we do in the shadows is my favorite.❤❤😊😊
I love what we do in the shadows. Guillermo is my favorite character. ❤ him.
Every other word is like... disappointing
Julien is seriously just wonderful.
i know exactly what she means by assimilating yourself. i'm definitely not ashamed to be queer, but sometimes i still find myself trying to "mask" it by emphatically sharing that i find a guy celebrity hot or down-toning how i find women attractive. it's an unconscious thing that i often do in front of my family to seem more "normal" to them. it sucks and i wish i wouldn't do it, especially when i realize i don't even mean what i'm saying half the time, i'm just trying to seem as heterosexual as possible.
i love julien so much but i genuinly could not understand a lot of the things she said! she uses a lot of big words 😅 i love my big-word-wife ❤

@@whynotbothpodcast brilliant. Thank you.
Over the summer I was at a family gathering. My cousins' 4 year old daughter told me she needs "by myself time" . I was so surprised about the self awareness she had. I left her alone so she could have time by herself.

when people dont get laid enough, or well, they start weird insignificant unintellegent conversations
i love her so much 😍
Jon Hopkins music just feels like it is on another level. With most artists there are 2-3 tracks i like. But with him.. it's entire albums where everything is just.. wow. And then you find out that the beauty in his music is just a reflection of his mind. It's kind of equally depressing and inspiring that such humans exist.
Nonsense, black women can get they're hair wet they choose not to cause they have perm's
this is such a beautiful conversation. Im finding every single Julian baker podcast interview that exists and this one was a delight
You are proving why people like me shouldn't pay for people like you
Which countries are you referring to? Scandinavian ones?
You can listen to the full interview for better context ua-cam.com/video/ExRyR2r88Ws/v-deo.html
Thank you for asking and listening as it's important to get the fuller picture of what she is saying <3
@@whynotbothpodcast Thanks for sending. She doesn't specify what countries she's referring to, but I'll assume she's referring to the Scandinavian ones that do have the largest social net of almost all countries. While I agree with her sentiment, there are a number of flaws to her comment. The biggest is that you can't compare countries like Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark and Iceland to the US. Finland for example has a 40% tax rate on ALL citizens. Those very high taxes help fund a wonderful social net. However, the demographic make up of Finland is 90+% homogenous (white). The same holds true for the rest of the Scandinavian countries. Their social net works because their immigration is very low and culturally they are much more aligned than a country with a wider variance in ethnic origins. The US exemplifies an unaligned country due to numerous reasons. Politics, legal and illegal immigration being a large part of that. For example, since 2020, over 6 million illegal immigrants have entered the US. That's a larger population than 33 of our states. You can't sustain a proper social net (large than what we already do) with that type of influx of people who are not contributing to the social net she's speaking of Size also matters. Sweden's GDP is roughly $600b, which would rank them around our 8th largest state. Social safety nets are more manageable in smaller groups than a country that's similar size to the entirety of Europe. At the end of the day, I do believe we could do more as a country, but we have too many factors to account for to replicate a system like Sweden, Finland, etc.
Do you have a link to the whole conversation? Thanks.
Of course! Here is the full interview <3 ua-cam.com/video/byZJjwS-JM0/v-deo.html
Gosh I wish tori had a regular podcast....I would listen on repeat
@@RecoveringChristian I would listen to it 10000% 😍
"I'm super fun at parties" ahahahaha RELATABLE. Thanks so much for this wonderful conversation! 💖
You are so welcome!
I LOVE HER VOICE EVEN WHEN SHE TALKS!
I love the part around 13:30 or so....where she talks about bossing people around in the studio. lol... She's spoken often about how she's a massive perfectionist with making music....and has *_zero_* tolerance for anyone stepping on her toes when it comes to expressing herself creatively. I love how _confident_ and bold she is about that. She may come across as demure and soft in a way....but she has a fierce devotion to her own creative vision. I respect that.
heh....listening back to this again, I'm really noticing just how much the host was laughing at....almost everything. But hey, I get it. I'd _like to think_ that if I was having a conversation with Aurora, I would match her clear calm and focused head-space.....but there's a distinct non-zero chance I would be giddy, nervously laughing at every other word she said, forgetting to breathe, and gushing about how I think she's quite possibly my favorite human being ever. So...yeah lol
I just added this to my channel's Aurora playlist....which has surprisingly been getting lots of views from people looking for a place holding all her content. I just made it for me...but many others are using it now, which is super cool. I find it SO annoying how UA-cam serves videos to users given their search inputs. You could literally search for this specific video, using perfectly honed keywords, and yet _never even see it_ on the results page. Indeed...youtube will sooner show you results that have nothing whatsoever, even tangentially, to do with what you're actually looking for. It means smaller channels, like this one, who land a big guest and have an awesome interview....won't get _any_ of the exposure that such a big guest _should_ generate. Every single Aurora interview has _at least_ around 10k views....with plenty that are 100k or even much more. And this has......121 views? 2 of them from me? Gah....sorry to rant. I just can't stand how UA-cam rewards and punishes and incentivizes creators and users. It's almost like they're _trying_ to ruin this platform. It's unfortunate. Honestly, I half expect this comment to be deleted....because that's another thing they do. I used the word "punishes" which UA-cam's AI probably thinks is "negative" and will therefore, ironically.....punish by deleting it. Meanwhile, the most toxic hateful bots, and humans, run rampant.... Annnnnnyway.....this was such a cool interview with one of my favorite human beings on this planet....so I hope I can at least give it some extra love by sending people this way. :) Sorry to rant about all that. It just.....bugs me. Clearly lol. ;P
ALBERTTTTTTTT THE MOST UNDERRATED STROKE
So many interviews that she's acquired a Sam Harris-like calm about the whole thing.
How am I only just now randomly stumbling across this?? I've literally watched/listened to every Aurora interview there is.....yet UA-cam hid this all along? Weird... :(
oh, new hour of beauty, every day. I don't know why, just thank you, thank you, thank you so so so so much. so much love to you. love Zola, love every guest
<3 <3 <3
The tour was in Spring 2019. I went to the Shrine Auditorium show in May. Ioanna played a very entertaining set!
Really amazing to hear about Lauren's creative process. I was wondering if she writes the lyrics first and then they compose the music or vice versa? Great band, Lauren has a fun personality. Seems easy to talk to. Amazing talent.
BANKS! I'm forever trapped into ''This is what it feels like'' videoclip 😭 Psychology squad here! I'm also creative and highly sensitive and reality sometimes is really heavy on us. Also, so cool that you get get to talk about the gender inequality in the music industry. I hope you tackle more of that subject in the future. It's funny, because I'm not from the U.S., but having been born and raised in Rio, I kinda get the references when yout talk about the vibe of LA. Here is the same, vapid culture, shallow people...
I can only hope to become as genuine as Jon Hopkins one day. Always so true to himself and to his craft you can hear it in every answer to every interview question and every moment of his musical work.
Yes! We're so lucky to have creative people like him in the world.
Record everything and warn future aliens ☺️👍❤
I'm still stuck in final destination 😀
Only if we're very VERY lucky.
I do the same thing with my photography ideas. luckily I'm able to just write it in my notes on my phone or quickly draw it out on a piece of paper.
no but I'll wake up in the middle of the night half asleep with a great idea and write it down and when I wake up in the morning and read it, it's the shittiest idea ever
@@jessirose ohhh, you're not alone in this strange mornings <3
@@doublecarbon8714 Same. What's life without a few super weird notes to yourself?
I always think about making a time capsule, fill it with the strangest things and then hide it, obviously where someone can actually find it 😀 it's just not fair if we don't get to see their faces when they open it 😀
I had a crush on her voice before I ever saw her. It was the same way with Annie Lennox growing up. Shirley is a beautiful woman. Hope I don't offend anyone.
