Cape Turnagain | Course 10 of 396 | New Zealand
Come join us for Course 10 of 396 in New Zealand. Cape Turnagain. Located in Herbertville, Cape Turnagain takes its name from the local Cape named by James Cook in 1729 and is around 1hour from Dannevirke on State Highway 2.
Sean arrives back from the USA and Stephen kindly takes him straight to Cape Turnagain for a 9 hole match. After 25 hours of travel, 5 flights and limited leg room Stephen thought this would be a good time to take on Sean in a Matchplay game!
Cape Turnagain is located 20mins from the town with the Longest place name in the world, Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateapokaiwhenuakitanatahu. Look out for Stephen giving his best shot at pronouncing it!
The Cape is one of the windiest places in New Zealand, frequently recording annual extremes for wind speed - as we found out on the first few holes but thankfully the wind eased for us!
The course is a 9 hole golf course and as of 2024 the price is $20 for 9 or 18. Boasting amazing views and a layout for all abilities of golfer, the greens have cattle rings, fairways lined with blue pegs and fantastically designed hole signs. It's a quiet area so if you're looking for a relaxed 9 holes then this is the place for you.
Stephens favorite hole was the 5th - awesome view back towards the South Pacific Ocean and The Cape.
With local attractions including great walks and an awesome beach its certainly worth stopping in if you're passing through this area.

Thanks guys!

Good effort on the longest name Stephen!
You fellas are playing some STUNNING courses !!
Give me a message when you are up in northland I will sort you some rounds at local clubs for free
Will do! Thank you!
Sean i am really enjoying the videos and the tips during play, Hope you are having the time of your life, Peter Malone (Southport)
@@petermalonep great thanks Peter! Glad you’re enjoying the videos! Hope to see you soon!
Play there twice a week. Usually just a 6 iron and 2 balls. Lol. Just in case
What do you shoot with just 1 club? We might try that idea!
Interesting facility
Mate of mine fatted his shot on 2nd. Turned away and threw his club in disgust. I watched it scuttle towards the hole and drop in. His only hole in 1 and he never saw it. Golf will break you!
Hahaha! How good! 😂
Which golf club is this one?
@@dreamerainmy9845 te arai links, New Zealand
Golflands represent. Proud Karamu gilf club member right here. Hopefully you guys play my First Home course, in my hometown of Wairoa. Wairoa Golf Club. Love your content my bro, keep it up, Kia ora 👍👍👍
Hey thank you!! Yes Wairoa will feature soon. We went to Mahia recently, amazing journey over there!
Lovely stuff fellas!
Great show guys. 🎉
Don’t forget to play Kawhia GC😁
We won’t! Excited to come there!
Kia ora this is going to be a journey what a awesome idea can't wait to witness this Adventure through New Zealand battle grounds and masterpieces. Peace be the Journey Brother's🏌️♂️⛳️
Thank you ☺️
such fun!
Fun times!! Always the best!
Ewe guys are crack up.
Good to see the guest continues.Good finish
What a total snob
Yeah agree
Have played there quite a few times and am always amazed at what they do with what they have. It is a cool little course with real interesting holes.
It’s amazing isn’t it! Thanks for the comment :)
The course has potential to be rated higher than onga onga as the best 9 hole course in the hurricanes franchise area...but for the fairways which often are a bit too lush. But hey 20 bucks is the reason.
M8 remember a kiwi that played every course in NZ Michelle in office might remember. He was in a motor home I played with him between 2008- 12
I see Stephen’s game continues to improve. Great review and excellent value!
played that. snow on the greens. fantastic
Amazing setting!
Lovely to see your local course Nick
Thanks cuzzy! choice to see it getting some attention! It was a good day, true country golfing 🙂
I live in Napier and try to play this course at least a couple of times a year. It is well worth the trip. The Locals are so friendly, and the course is genuinely enjoyable to play. We are lucky in NZ with the amount of courses to play but that is a blessing and a curse as a lot of clubs depend on volunteers to survive.
@@shanerowe5289 amazing place. Yeah it’s exceptional at how accessible golf is in NZ. We have to support these courses as much as can, the members and volunteers are doing awesome work!
Awesome guys! It was cool to come and Cruze around with you, good laugh aswell. I do have to be honest, I would have 💯 taken a free drop out of that water 😆 but the UA-cam world doesn't want to see that, that was way more entertaining! Thanks for the visit! Always welcome 🏌🏻♂️
@@nickpowis4750 hahah I knew it!! Thanks again Nick, give us a shout when you fancy a trip out at Hastings!
I look forward to that mate!@@YesLifeGolf
What a match fellas!
Let us know when you get to the Kapiti Coast; would love to take you out to Paraparaumu Beach and Waikanae... cheers.
Hey! Well we are currently planning a trip down that way soon so will reach out.. thanks!
Hi Tim, can you reach out to us on instagram? We are looking to play Waikanae Wednesday 6th in the afternoon… thank you!
Obvious Temu does it better than the rest 😂
Played there today. What an absolute gem of a course
@@wordvirus2000 glad you enjoyed it! How did our review compare to yours?
Yes agree with your review. Great value, superb condition for a country course in a really nice setting. The cricket pitch was something else, like Kevin Costner had dreams of cricket 😂
What incredible scenery 😮
😂
Beautiful place 😊
I just bought the two Temu wedges and my friends make fun of me lol. I like the wide sole it makes it easier for me to not dig into the ground. Plus the blue is shiny!
@@rng72 we agree it looks good! Nick and Stephen found this too, part 2 coming soon where they give their opinion. Out of interest what made you go for the temu wedge?
Looks like a copy knockoff of the C3i , imagine that!
@@donsmnc5319 it really does! Great shout. We hadn’t seen that club before! Any other clubs like that you would want us to review?
My understanding is that the cheaper end of the market clubs can lose their loft etc due to the poor quality of production. Therefore they very quickly need replacing with something of better quality irrespective of initial performance. True or false?
F
@@townders39 it’s a tough one for us to say but Nick can report back soon after using it for a while. The milled face really ruins the golf balls though so I imagine in time those grooves will wear out!
Was a good match. More interesting with decent golfers, the 20ish handicaps are a bit of a tough watch
@@andyfrizzell4352 hey Andy! Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. We all started somewhere and we aim to play games to make each video enjoyable to watch. The aim is to show the journey of the guys from starting the game and improving…. By course 396 who knows what their handicap will be.. thanks for commenting!
Gorgeous spot
Keep it coming. You should try and link up with the Kiwi Korean YT golfers (Tacogolf, Sam Hueng Min, Harry Na) and Toomsgolf. They're doing some great content and might get your channel a bit more exposure
Yeah we hope to join those guys for a hit sometime soon
Nice course again. I'm hanging out for some courses I know. Wellington, Manawatu, central plateau, Canterbury, Auckland and Northland
Interesting looking course. I spent a bit of time visit the region around a Waipukarau. Don't really know why I never played more golf in the area
Good looking course and decent golf by you both
The old honesty box green fees. Very Kiwi
Hope to follow you around all the NZ courses
Thank you for the reviews, very helpful.
Devastating news for Stephen and his Kirklands
Very sad indeed, might have to let him borrow the new club
