Artist Residency- Showcase Part 1
🌿✨ A little showcase of four plein air paintings from my recent adventure in Temagami!
🖼️ The first two pieces capture the serene beauty of a beaver pond, nestled just a 20-minute hike from our lodge. The tranquility and reflections inspired every brushstroke.
🖼️ The next two works were painted at Net Creek, where the rugged road narrows, barely wide enough for a single vehicle or ATV. The rocky terrain and wild surroundings added a touch of excitement and challenge to these creations.
Each painting has its own story to tell. Come listen and experience the journey behind the art.

A beautiful series!
Hi Marissa. I was in this workshop and seemed to have lost my reference photo. Would like to finish the painting. Is there a way to get a copy. Thanks.
Thank you, I am inspired! Fantastic art!🥰👍👍👍👍👍👍
Wonderful. That must have been a huge amount of work for you to prepare all those paintings. They are all stunning. I wish you a successful show.
Thank you so much, appreciate your comments!
Absolutely Magnificant!!! Thanks for sharing!!!
Lovely for you to say... hope you enjoyed your visit!
Beautiful work! Congratulations! Are those oil or acrylic?
Thank you so much. The majority of work is in Oil and some in Acrylic. Two for my favorite mediums.
Beautiful artwork
Thank you very much!
What an amazing exhibition! It must be very gratifying to see your work on display like this. Congratulations!
Thank you so much!
Great to see
very talented
Thank you! Together with my niece and nephew-in-law and my husband!
Love the way you use negative space to open up the foliage and define an area. I love to use this technique myself but I know it’s not generally seen as ‘the right way’ to do it. To me though, it’s a magical way to work.
Thank you for watching! Just wanted to share my approach with everyone and hope it inspires people to paint and embrace their own style!!
Good ideas! Thank you so much!
Thank you Eileen!
I recognize some of those paintings and people!
Yes for sure..... it was such a fun and memorable time!
This is a great video! By the way, they say that when you find a dime, it’s a loved one who has passed saying ‘hi’. :)
Oh I did not know that... that is great!!! This dime is always by my side!
Thanks for sharing Marissa. A question for you...I didn’t see a drawer for paint storage so wondering how do you carry your paints and brushes? In your backpack? Also wondering what you use for your brush cleaning container? Thanks!
I put all my brushes and paint tubes in my backpack. You can watch my UA-cam video on what is inside my backpack! You can see all my supplies inside my backpack! 🌹 Thank you for watching!!
Marissa, I have never painted on "board". Is there any difference in technique from painting on canvas? Will I need one for class?? Shirley Blain
Hello Shirley. You do not need to have a board for the class, you can paint with a canvas. The difference is the texture. Painting on canvas is material so the paint gets absorbed by the fibers, while on wood panel, the paint sits on top allowing you to move your paint around without it being absorbed. I got into painting on wooden supports because I paint with a palette knife and it can take the constant application. Thank you! M:)
I love your take on extending your palette. I mainly use magnets.
Oh thank you!
Interesting. May I suggest keeping all ingestible items away from all paint/ solvent sources.
for sure!!!
This was very interesting to see! I enjoyed seeing all of your contents laid out in your bag as well!
CSART thank you so much! More videos to come out next month. Time is limited because I’m taking care of my 92 yr old father.
Great idea Marissa, I have the same bird bath.
Thank you Penny!! Glad to hear from you!
Hi sis love your painting so beautiful newe friend here bring you support you can bring me some of your painting see you soon my home ❤️
Thanks and welcome
Any tips on this where the aspect ratios are very different? I know cropping will need to happen but apart from that no idea how one would approach that scenario.
There are formulas however, since my work doesn't have to be precise, I do not need the calculation aspect anymore... besides... I just want to get painting!!!
Excellent video, Marissa! Well-produced, informative, practical, inspiring. Best, O.
Wow, thank you Olex... so glad you came to view. Hope you subscribed? See you sometime this summer.
Station Gallery thank you !
On a separate note it was so cool to see the dime in your art backpack. When my mom passes a family member found a dime and we always say it is a memory of her. I just had to share that. Enjoy painting. And your back back has all the essentials for painting too. 🎨
Excellent Marissa! Great tips and loved the birch tree technique!! Your work is always so vibrant!
Thanks so much! 😊Julia. I look forward to having tea sometime soon!
Thank you Marissa for such an informative art study. Love your style and your techniques. I have learned so much with your generous gift. Excited to learn more. 🙏🏻
Thank you so much! I am happy to came to visit... more videos will be coming soon! Please subscribe and ring the bell, so you'll be notified when I have new videos.
Thanks Marissa! Which colours did you mix to get violet? I love your demo!
Mona Trivedi you are welcome! I usually mix A blue and Red plus a bit of white to get purple. For this particular painting, I may have used Ultramarine blue plus Alizarin Crimson plus Titanium White. You can vary depending if you like a blue violet add more blue or a red violet add more red. Hope this helps.
Lovely
Thank you Karen. Hope all is well and that you are painting again!
Hey Marissa. That was great:)!
Yay, thank you!
I'm jealous. Why can't we have a show like this in the United States? We have lots of great landscapes here to paint and so many passionate artists who would love to compete.
George Anderson thank you for watching this press release party!
I loved all the demos for this painting. I learned a lot and I’m eager to try new paintings.
Jennifer Lanyon thank you for visiting! More videos will be out at least every week. Please subscribe so you know when I post something new!
thank you so much Marissa!
You are very welcome. Hope you enjoyed it.
Another beautiful piece Marrisa...love it
Thank you Karen. Hope all is well. Thank you for visiting!
Been having tech issues with my software. Sorry my music stopped mid way. But the painting is now completed and hope you enjoyed this journey!
How did you make the beautiful purples you have in this painting?
Hello Mella, I used Alizarim Crimson and Ultramarine Blue mix and then a touch of white. Have fun!
Wow! Thanks for sharing:)!
granako 🙏 thank you!
Loved it.
Thank you Linda!
Thanks Marissa! Can’t wait to see the sky! What brands are your brushes?
Whiteweathered Hutch Sky is coming on Part 6!!!! My brushes are Nobel brand or Snap
Where do you purchase your brushes and palette knives?
Enjoying the process, very well done, Marissa! Erika
Thank you so much!
Marissa on your tutorial you didn’t add the white on the birch trees! Will you be posting a 4th video?
Whiteweathered Hutch yes! There are 6 parts to this video. Part 4 is coming soon!
Love how the painting is coming along. The technique is good to learn for an artist in training.
Gudrun Christian thank you Gudrun! Part 3 will be next week!
I enjoyed the video especially the history of washes.
Glad you enjoyed Gudrun!
