Your thoughts are inspiring. It is nice to hear from someone more my age. I will be going in June 2025. Alone but for the first 2 weeks. A little nervous about that. I take your packing recommendation svery seriously. Testing out Topos shoes right now. Thanks again!
@@gailhemphill1 Hi Gail! Thank you for watching and commenting! I am really excited to hear that you will walk. As for packing, I have lightened up some, and managed to get to a 16 lb pack weight before water. I walked my last two Caminos with one pair of convertible pants and a pair of shorts, two button down shirts, and one t-shirt. Reducing from three pair of convertible pants down to one, plus a pair of feather weight shorts, really reduced the weight! I sleep in the tee, but could walk in it as well. Everything is quick dry, of course. I still carry the little foldable duffle and forward things that I only use at night (laundry stuff, shower kit, etc). This has made my pack super light and my days much, much easier. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. I love talking about Camino and would be happy to share anything that I have learned along the way. Buen Camino! 🙏💕🥾
Great video! How much did your backpack when when fully packed? Thanks so much
@@kathylundy5911 Hi Kathy! Thank you for watching and asking an excellent question. I think my pack was close to 20 lbs, without water, on the Camino Frances. This is too much. A good guideline is no more than 10% of your body weight. For my last two Caminos, I was able to get my pack weight, before water, down to 16 lbs. I am constantly thinking about ways to get even lighter. Hopefully, I can reduce to 14 lbs in 2025 🤞Buen Camino! 🙏💕🥾
Awesome Kathy! Love seeing living your best life
@@CarlRobicheaux Hi Carl! Thank you for watching and for your kind words 🙏 I really do love Camino!!! Buen Camino! 💕😊🥾
Congratulations. Thanks for sharing another amazing camino! Seems you never even went back but stayed in Europe after the walk through France and then headed off to Portugal? You certainly didn't walk a slower pace in the end, almost 28 km in 6,5 hours, and a lot of it ascending... that's very impressive! I'd love to hear what your after thoughts are about your camino experiences. Maybe some day you feel like sharing your thoughts on these three so different routes and walks. Buen camino always.
@@regineuhe6657 Hi Regineuhe! Thank you for watching and your very kind words! I did go home between the Via Podiences and Camino Portuguese. The Camino Portuguese was much faster because it was much easier and the weather was on my side with beautiful temperatures and less variation in elevation. And, who doesn’t love the beach? The Via Podiences, or GR65, is a difficult Camino on the best of days, but it rained nearly every day this past May and June, making the trail muddy and slow. I think this walk through France would be much better in early fall, when the weather is more predictable. As for the Camino Frances and Finestere? They say you always love your first Camino the best. That just might be true. Buen Camino! 🙏💕😊🥾
How many days ot took you to do the camino an did you take a day to rest and if, how many.
@@anaortiz1771 Hi Ana! Thank you for your great question. When we walked the Camino Frances, from SJPDP to Santiago, we walked for 37 days and took 5 rest days, for a total of 42 days. Buen Camino!

Hi Cathy. It’s Pat and Deb. We met you in the early days of your Camino Podiensis. Remember all the muck we walked in those first 5 days? You are our hero. We have really enjoyed following your travels and admire your perseverance so much because we know how hard what you are doing is. You are a badass (in a good way!) Buen Camino and congratulations!
@@patrickpowers8288 Hi Pat and Deb! Wow! It’s really great to hear from you 💕 I appreciate your kind words and support, very much. Do I remember the muck??? Hahahaha…I cried all the way into Santiago. I think finishing the Camino Portuguese was also finishing the Via Podiensis, in a big way. It was that walk that I was reflecting on as I entered Santiago. Love to you both and Buen Camino!
Hi again, an been watching other videos but I haven't found one that give an estimate spending for a day. Can you share your knowledge, thank you
@@anaortiz1771 Hi Ana! Excellent question! If you are planning on albergues and bunk beds, I think about $20 EU per day. A private room is between $50 EU and $70 EU. A cafe con leche is about $2 EU and a tortilla (potato and cheese pie) is another $3 EU. Plan on $5-$8 EU for a sandwich and a pilgrim dinner is about $15 EU. So, bunk bed, coffee and a tortilla, sandwich for lunch, and a pilgrim dinner can be as inexpensive as $45 EU per day. I shared a private room nightly on the Camino Portuguese and budgeted $100 EU per day for everything. Buen Camino!
One more question did you use any of the agencies for the camino like camino way?
@@anaortiz1771 Hi Ana, no need for an agency. If you have the time, you can arrange for everything yourself (and save a bunch of $$$). Buen Camino! 🙏💕😊🥾
Hi, question do you need a travel agency to plant the trip (flight) ground transportation fom the airport and accommodation? I want to do it next year., In advance thank you
@@anaortiz1771 Hi Ana! Thank you for watching and for your very good question! I arranged for everything myself. I would start with an ebook guide to the Camino Frances. The albergues will be listed there, as well as a few hotels. You can also get good advice on the Camino forums and Facebook pages. Most hotels can be booked directly on line and many offer Pilgrim discounts, so don’t hesitate to let them know that you are walking the Camino and ask if they offer a discount. All of your major airports have taxis and Ubers readily available. And, if you are flying into Charles de Gaulle airport, you can get on a train without leaving the airport. Trains are inexpensive and it is easy to negotiate the logistics. The train station in Saint Jean Pied de Port is within easy walking distance of all of the hotels (if you can, book one close to the cathedral and pilgrims’ office). You can get your pilgrim passport for your daily stamps at the pilgrims’ office the night before. There is also a Pilgrims’ Mass at the cathedral that you can attend the night before. There is a great hiking supply store in SHPDP for last minute items, but nothing between there and Pamplona. Ana, I would love to help you any way that I can, so please don’t hesitate to contact me through this channel. Buen Camino! 🙏💕😊🥾
Hi thank you for your prompt response, i am really nervous trying to plan this trip as a solo for the first time. I am looking for the best city to fly in and the most easy an direct if possible to get to St Jean de Port.

Hi! Love your videos. I’m confused though that you said you were taking the path along the coast but that if you had weather you’d switch to the coastal route. Aren’t you on the coastal route? The other route is inland and does not follow the coast. Buon camino!
Hi Ptownshoegal! Thank you for watching and asking an excellent question! There are two paths that run parallel to the coast. One is the Coastal and the other is the Litoral. The Litoral path follows the coastline, very close to the sea. The Coastal path is parallel to the Litoral path, but somewhat inland. And, sometimes, these paths overlap. Buen Camino! 🙏💕🥾
Hi! Thanks for this very helpful video. I am wondering how you find the Gravel Layover Travel Blanket as part of your sleep system. It sounds like it might be a good idea in place of a sleeping bag.

My feet is my main concern about walking the Camino. 😢
@@BabyRQ Hi Baby! It’s all about the feet!!! You want good shoes, with arch support, and a little cushion, and a wide toe box. Then be sure to carry needle and thread, gauze, and surgical tape. Lastly, I think Camino is supposed to hurt a litttle everyday A little pain is what nails you to the moment 😉. Buen Camino! 🙏🥾🇪🇸
Hello beautiful!! I’m enjoying your videos, you are my hero! 💪🏽. My question is how much training did you do before your first Camino??? I’m scared of failure…
@mfranco7487 Hi MFranco! Thank you for your kind and generous words! 💕 I honestly didn’t train at all for my first Camino. It was at the end of summer and maybe I went on a few hikes. But, there was no actual training. I think it’s good to know that you can walk at least ten miles before you start. But, it’s the day to day walking, over the course of weeks, that really makes Camino different from anything else. You just can’t train for that. You will be proud of yourself. Buen Camino! 🙏🥾
@mfranco7487 Hi MFranco, I really don’t train at all. It would be good if you know that you can walk at least ten miles in one day. But, the day to day to day walking of many miles has a compounding effect that would just be very difficult to prepare for. Best to have great shoes, a foot repair kit, and spare time built into your schedule for rest and repair. Start slow, maybe less than ten miles the first few days and take a break after four straight days. Take another break after the next four or five days. When you have your “trail legs” and initial foot damage under control, I expect that you can push rest days out to a break after seven to ten days. Everyone is different, but this is what my experience has taught me. Buen Camino! 🙏💕😊🥾
You rock. How come in so many of your videos there are no people about? Are you up really early? We really need to talk about these sometime. Jeff
@@Hancer524 Hi Jeff! I wait for my shots just like sitting in a duck blind 😆

Great to see you walking again :) Just wonder, why did you change to the coastal, was it planned all along? Or was it too hot, too windy or too boring near the beach? I guess some shade isn't too bad in that sun. Bom Caminho 😊
Hi Regineuhe, thank you for watching and commenting! 😃 I think we switched accidentally to Coastal from Litoral 😆 These two trails are difficult to identify separately and seem to constantly merge and converge. @@kbhothothot I want to do the Frances but I have some leg issues. Do you think I should hold off? Hip and knee problems
@pamcrane5239 Oh Pam! I am sorry to hear and I completely understand! I leave for Portugal tomorrow with plantar fasciitis and a bruised heel bone from my Camino in France earlier this year. I should have my head examined 🙄 But, this will be a shorter walk and I will be taking ibuprofen the entire way. Pam, my experience has suggested that what hurts you know will be exacerbated by a very long walk. One thing you might try to get an idea of how it could affect you is to start walking now. This sounds extreme but walking every day for a week, or longer, is really different than taking a long walk a few times a week. Daily is what will show you how it would be on Camino. Also, I recommend starting slow and building up the miles. Lastly, listen to your body and take rest days when you need them. I hope you can walk Camino and do it without further joint damage. Good luck and know that I am in your corner! Buen Camino 💕🥾🇪🇸

I started the Frances on September 1st and finished in mid-October. It got cold at night and in the mornings by October. Here is my new, improved clothing list for the Frances, from SJPDP to Santiago: Poncho, felt cap and gloves, ball cap to keep the poncho from falling down over your eyes, broad brimmed hat, light fleece zipped hoodie, light fleece pants (to wear alone or slip on over your hiking pants), two pair of quick dry convertible pants (one to wear and one to carry), two short sleeve quick dry hiking shirts, one merino wool tee shirt, three pair merino wool socks and three pair silk sock liners, two bras, three pair of underwear. And, when it gets very cold and layering just doesn’t cut it, a light puffy jacket. I think that’s it and all you need! When you arrive at your albergue or hotel, take your shower and wash the clothes you wore that day. Then, wear your hiking clothes for the next day. The tee shirt is for sleeping and can provide an additional layer, if necessary. Buen Camino!!! 🥾💕
