Hardest start of this trucks life… it sad watching it slowly getting worse. At least the Cummins started and runs well but still sad. She has to last a little longer until I get the other car safe again. Then, it’s tear down time…

    Pretty cool wife to pick out the bigger tool box for you. Lucky man! Very nice tool box, I just picked up the 30" tool cart, that was all I could afford to spend at the time but I would like to upgrade to a bigger US General one day. Thanks for sharing. I am glad I do not have a Harbor Freight credit card, I would be in some big trouble with the old lady. So far all the tools I have bought this year have been debit(cash) so that is why I had to go with the smaller 5 draw tool cart when it was on sale from $289 to $179 back in May. I am in the process of rebuilding my credit so it would not be smart of me to get a store card for a store I love to shop at. LOL - Some of the peg style socket holders you have to flip the sockets over to get them to sit properly. Not sure why but it seems to work for me. Check Amazon, I believe it is WORKPRO, they make the magnet style socket holders like TEKTON but you can get them cheaper and they a basically the same thing. A set of 3 for like $30-35

    Started with a craftsman box ( 25-30 years ago) and tool set ( 35 years ago) Over the years, I've added to it and had to get a bigger box. Now have the series 1 version of that box with the top and two of the full hight side boxes. Also one the 5 drawer serve carts. Planning to convert my old craftsmans box to a welder cart. Do wish I had gotten a bigger box. Have the post stile socket rack. But also have the problem with some of the impact sockets as they will not fit over the post. (Hole in socket is to small). Tools wise, I have a mix of craftsman, husky, harbor freight, and one others.

      American made stuff nowadays isn’t that great. The engineering team is in the U.S. harbor freight gets the test samples and will only accept that design if it comes back to there standard and quality control. Realistically there’s cheap china and expensive china. Everything is in china. I mean harbor freight is cheap china. But nowadays I’ve come across things I’ve wanted to rip the “built in USA” sticker because the quality control is so bad. I mean it’s a lot of tool box for 900 bucks.

    You could have saved a lot to spend on a more comprehensive set of tools by focusing on metric and just buying sae as you need it unless you're planning on working on cars made before 1970 I recommended you get a Ryobi 1\2" high torque impact and their 3/8 extended reach ratchet next I was able to get both of them for $350 with 4 hp batteries and a charger keep an eye out for a good sale Ryobi Ridgid Milwaukee and hart are all made by the same company tti. Also some flex head metric wrenches, flex head ratchets and some better ratchets than those composite Pittsburgh ones you'll be glad you did. I really like the 120 tooth gunmetal craftsman ratchets they were a really good choice. Also get the craftsman OBD2 reader with live data if you intend this tool collection to primarily work on your car(s) also those 1\2 inch impact sockets are ok but the Pittsburgh pro ones for a few bucks more are way better I wish I knew the were an option when I got them.

    • @Ontheflydiyguy

      I bought the Hercules impacts. Just didn’t post right away. My recent video on finding a break leak, I go over them really quick. I love my older cars. I have a 69 ford f100 I showed in my first video. If I could, I would own a lot of other older vehicles too lol. I just wanted a wide variety but agreed. Could have saved now . I’m looking at all sorts of wrenches as well just brands right now are what’s cheap with a warranty or I probably would have bought all tekton to start. Thanks for the comment!

    • @deeeyewhy5949

      @@Ontheflydiyguy home Depot right now has a killer sale the high torque Ryobi impact , 2 - 4ah hp batteries and 2 free tools all for 279 Im hoping Ill have the cash to get this so I can get the angle grinder and hackzall. Still waiting for Ryobi to make a right angle impact and a sub compact 3\8 impact or even a driver as small as the Ridgid. I do think the Hercules power tools five year over the counter warranty its a pretty sweet deal. But I dropped my mid torque Ryobi In a bucket of atf during an engine swap and it's still kicking ass I just wish I had the high torque because the p262 was barely strong enough to use with my Maddox bearing press adapter kit. It stripped the forcing screw out I should have got the astro pneumatic set instead. But I've slowly started to get more craftsman tools. A slide hammer the gunmetal ratchets pry bars, ratcheting wrenches and that nice little obd reader. I also like husky ratchets which are made by apex and identical to some gear wrench products. I have the 3\8 and 1\2 locking flex heads the gimbal palm ratchet and the 144 tooth 1\2 inch. I just need the two index head ratchets they sell at hf and some swivel heads. Also tekton tools is made by apex so a lot of the mid quality Pittsburgh pro stuff is literally the same. Look at the comfort grip swivel oto head ratchets they are identical. Something else I plan on getting to round out my collection is a matco 88 tooth replacement ratchet flex head so I can pop it into a pitsburgh pro 25 inch breaker bar handle for a 25 inch long half inch flex head ratchet for $57 which is like 75% off the tool truck options. a couple UA-camrs have done this mod and it's pretty sweet.

    So for the socket holder just take a Dremel and grind down the peg a bit, that’s what I did and I’ve had the same experience with all socket holders it’s just because the sockets are bored differently across some brands. You might be able to take that socket holder and see if they’ll swap it out for you for another one

      Are you going to just use icon and Pittsburgh tools or will you have a mixture and I was looking into Pittsburgh and icon which one is better

    • @Ontheflydiyguy
      @Ontheflydiyguy 9 місяців тому

      @@vinnyvinny2508 I will mix and match. Harbor freight credit is why I have such a big purchase here so far. Tekton is another good brand I plan on getting some of as well. Better warrantee in my opinion. Between icon and Pittsburg, icon is their “snap on” version of tools. I handled some in store and they are noticeably better then Pittsburg but at a cost. For me to get started, Pittsburg is and still would be my go to for the first set of stuff to get started.

    • @MrLonewolfKaraoke

    • @Ontheflydiyguy
      @Ontheflydiyguy 9 місяців тому

      @@MrLonewolfKaraoke so I don’t have personal experience yet but have watched a lot of people’s videos where they did returns. Plus, the way one person explained, the “sale sets” that are highly discounted and are missing 1 piece of the set, most of those are single socket returns. The socket is only sold in a set so they take one from the set for your replacement and highly discount the set with the missing piece. Others have said the same as you, Their local store told them complete sets. One said that they wrote corporate about that and they said it should just be replaced but I don’t know if that was legit or not. Hoping I made a good choice. Everyone at the store I went to said “if you break it, it’s covered. Just bring it in and we will take care of you” was it a lie? Maybe, but worth the chance for me to save money
