Could the Predators Trade Juuse Saros to the Devils?

On today's Locked On Predators, Ann and Emma discuss New Jersey's interest in Predators goalie Juuse Saros, the pros and cons of trading up in the draft order, what a reasonable trade package could look like and what trading Saros would mean for the Predators' future.

    With what we have on our roster and in our pipeline we are absolutely not going to be anywhere near a cup contender within Saros' career never mind his prime! Trade Saros! Get as much as you can, not because he's worth it, but because we desperately need it, but don't hold out for an absurd amount, just get it done!

    The best way to build a team is not from "the crease out". Goalies are drafted later for a reason. You build down the middle, and on the blue line. Paying Saros 8.5M, while the roster is incomplete will prevent the Preds from getting scoring help/depth. 2017 was supposed to be a "weak draft" too.

    • @michaels7134

      Brodeur played behind Stevens, Daneyko, Neidermayer, Arnott, Mogilny, Brylin, Gomez, Elias, Shanahan, and Guerin. Using roster builds from the clutch, and grab era is irrelevant today. Elite goaltending is a luxury, not a necessity.

  • @Flannman91
    @Flannman91 20 годин тому

    Mercer, Casey and a 2nd is a strong return for the Preds. They can push for the 10th overall pick too but that may be in lieu of Casey and a 2nd. Saros isn't worth as much as people think. His contract is terming and he'll want a raise, he's smallish in stature, and he also shrinks in the playoffs as evidenced by his performance this past postseason. Trade him, call up Askarov, and sign a decent veteran who can start up to 40 games as his tandem partner.

  • @robsullivan85
    @robsullivan85 20 годин тому

    NJ doesn’t have anyone I would want. Rather keep Saros and extend him. I don’t care about the 10th pick in this draft. If you are going to trade him then trade to Toronto for Manor.

    In his first season, Joe Thornton scored 3 goals in 55 games. Not saying any of Tomasino, Parssinen, Glass or Afanasyev are going to become stars, but young players need time and a stable environment to progress. The example Emma gave where a red-hot Afanasyev was called up but sat on the bench except for two brutal Nashville losses shows that at times, Preds' coaches haven't shown enough patience with emerging players and have actually disrupted their development. I do recall that at the end of the '23 season, Afanasyev got an extended look due to injuries, and he was physical, showed offensive creativity and had plenty of scoring chances despite only getting the one goal. He is big and can produce on a scoring line. Tomasino has abundant speed and a good shot, which he showed in his rookie season, but his lack of physicality and tenacity made coaches reluctant to put him on a top line where he belongs. And Parssinen is a big, versatile forward who could be deployed in a variety of ways, both defensively and offensively. I think all three players are NHL-worthy in the right circumstances, and I thought Tomasino complements a physical center with his speed. He was effective with McCarron, but that was in a 4th line role. Tomasino also got some time with Cody Glass, and they played with Tolvanen a couple of games in the Colorado playoff series of '22 and seemed to have chemistry despite the team being overwhelmed and deflated by Saros' injury that year. If I was an NHL GM, I'd try to grab any of these players from the Preds as I think all of them can play. I'd rather gamble on Tomasino and Afanasyev, but I'm afraid Trotz will go with more experienced players he trusts, like Beauvillier.

    McCarron seems like a great teammate, either being selfless as he distributes the pucks around in the pregame skate as well as standing up for others or providing a spark with his physicality. Glad we signed him! Forsberg needs help, you rarely see elite talent, as you put it, in a lone wolf situation as he is. O’Reilly and Nyquist clicked well with him,but we need more firepower throughout the middle six, or the top line will be focused on by the opponent.

    Good show Ladies. Why would Preds want Marner? He totally vanishes every year in the playoffs, and word is he's a total jerk in the dressing room. Add the greed factor for contract maximum, and it has to be a "thanks for the offer, but no thanks" by Barry Trotz

    Marner has 50 points in 57 playoff games which isn’t bad at all especially given the tight defensive teams in the Atlantic that the Leafs have had to face almost every year. The Leafs media is incredibly unforgiving and year after year players who get out of Toronto go on to great successes like Bozak and Kadri. Marner’s been a Selke nominee in the past and kills penalties well. He’s very good and if you can get him cheap off of the overstated bad rap he’s been given he would be an incredible Predator.

      id be willing to listen to the offers. If we could get him cheap that is one thing. But I think it's more than likely he is going to want a minimum 10 mil a year in nashville, or probably a bit more. that seems like a lot of money for another winger when we still dont have an elite center to feed and set him up. Would he really be capable of putting up 100 points without someone like Austin Matthews or Domi feeding him?

    Saros has issues that make it seem like a horrible idea to extend his contract with a big contract. His starts to every season he has been a starter, have been rough. This season up until the 18 game point streak his stats had him ranked below every starting goalie and some back ups....including Lankenin. And I think Nashville has pumped up his value. I don't think he would get as much if he went to free agency.
