This is such a great episode! Great storytelling Jake!👏
Very interesting as usual. I really enjoy your videos Jake. Thanks a lot.
just returning to rewatch this as I pull the SE off the shelf. Was reminded about the beauty of your editing. love the macro shots, the color. makes it fun to watch😁
This rules, this might be the first technical interview with the boys! I'm so impressed you got them on the channel!
Ignore the people in the comments desperately scrambling for a reason to justify their irrational hatred of Apple stuff because of hypothetical gains on paper for use cases you don't care about. I'm a lifelong windows user, have two PC workstations I just build (CAD and Video/Photo). The latter is an Intel 14900k and RTX4090 with 128GB of RAM and Gen4 NVMe drives. So I don't want to to hear any bullshit whining about how "oh if you just buy the latest stuff or buy an incrementally faster processor everything will totally change!" It won't. It never does. We hear this refrain literally every single year stretching back a decade. I'm tired of making excuses for Windows. I just picked up a Mac Studio (M2 Ultra) and it's night and day. Not in terms of raw benchmark speed when it comes to rendering, but in terms of overall usability and the metrics that actually matter: the ability to get shit done smoothly without fighting the computer. Yeah, the RTX4090 is a bit faster when rendering 8k60 footage with NeatVideo noise reduction. But the Mac Studio still wins. Why? Because it can actually finish the render instead of crashing six hour into it like the PC has been doing. Why? Why is the Windows PC crashing THIS time? Who knows. Who cares. I'm over it. The PCs are for gaming and CAD, and that's it. Those of you who still can't wrap your little walnuts around the idea that your actual real world creative output and experience is what matters, and not a few percentage points on a synthetic or hypothetical benchmark, need to grow up already. It's not 2005 anymore and this is getting OLD.
Holy cow I agree! :)
This video was everything I hoped for, and more. I loved it! ❤ thank you
Thanks Davey, glad you liked it :)
@Lego
Man wouldn’t that be sick
tasty
Heck yeah thank you!!! ☺️
i HAAAVE been waiting for this!! also been meaning to film a lil office tour myself so thank you for the inspooooo!
Absolutely!!!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
I wish everyone asking "what everyone uses" on social media platforms would get this. Any and all of these tools could be the right answer for you and your workflow, and (if you're not working for a company) you don't have to follow any perceived crowd. But yeah, FCP for me too.
Could not agree more.
This mojo dojo editing house is just *chefs kiss* 👨🍳🤌
Thank you gents!!! 🫡
Dude you never told me it’s solar powered!!!! That’s crazy cool!
I love it for sure, fun little science project and I am glad I did it :)
This is actually so sick ☕️
Thank you Davey 🫡
I know this was made just today but, this deserves way more likes.
Very kind thank you 🙏
The vibes are immaculate in the editing shed 🔥
Thanks dude 🫡🫡🫡
love the shed!
Thank you thank you!!!!
Y’all know it’s going to be banned, considered why? wonder why you must be on wifi to use it 😂
Interesting
Such a sick shed man!! Inspiring me to build an editing shed 👀🙌
Thanks Tim!!!!!!! 🫡🫡🫡🫡
we need a sound design dungeon next
Jon. I couldn’t agree more.
That desktop riser you have to turn the desk into standing mode looks great - do you remember where you got it?
Amazon. Can’t remember the brand
Weeee I'm so early! Editing shed tour can't wait!
Love your space dude. So much character! Super inspiring 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you dude 🫡🫡
advantage of final cut is mlogo and similar plugins , which are very easy to use and make logo animation n etc
MrAlexTech has a great one for resolve as well. And resolve has tons of tools for things like this
Do you have any thoughts on Resolve's Power Bins feature? I struggle with having to recreate the same thing in FCP all the time.
I think it is an awesome feature :) Bins in general makes more sense to my CS brain as well
I love Germany
nice 🤘
Dope 🔥🔥🔥
You’re dope
i hope a video is coming on how you did this 🙏🏻
DEAL
Dorkulous!!🤣🤣🤣 Love these style of recreate the effect videos - keep 'em coming man! 👽
Dude, love that you love it :) will keep it coming. love just "making stuff" type vibes a lot right now :)
Bro ur in youtube for 6 YEARS and still low views, u need to try another way to be successful. + keep going <3
Ok 👌
Resolve is overwhelming. 🤣
It is 😅😅😅 FCP is a great place to start
@@jakefelzien we need more into davinci videos -- ya boy is trying the switch but god premier has a choke hold.... i just know where it everything is
@@patcormick will try to do more of these :)
Love the idea of tackling the same task in different NLe's. Really informative for viewers and probably a great exercise as an editor in using different systems. More! More!
Absolutely Logan!!! will definitely keep it up :) Having a lot of fun right now just tinkering lately
Love seeing how you do it in FCP and also do it in Resolve. I love seeing both perspective. Sick content!
Thank you thank you! :)
Some people like a Dewalt drill and some like a Milwaukee…but they both can screw a screw really well 🧰🔩
couldn't have said it better myself. Right tool right job.
Thanks for sharing! I really feel the same! "Whatever works for you" I'm currently in love with FCP and it does everything I need for high quality content I generate. And most important I enjoy using it. (sometimes I use DR)
The mean issue with Final cut : it's only working on MacOS not in windows and Mac !!!!
Yup. Big bummer 😂😂
Wdym it does not work on Mac?
I am a very serious goose.
You are seriously the silliest goose I know.
As a complete beginner, would your recommendation go to Final Cut or davinci what’s easiest for a beginner to learn on with out getting totally overwhelmed
FCP. BUT. Resolve has a much higher ceiling once you get good. So keep that in mind
I’ve used resolve for most of my client work this year, its awesome but the ability to cut and make adjustments in real time is abysmal. Premiere allows you to cut and make adjustments while the content is playing, whereas in resolve I have to stop, make adjustment, re-set play head, watch. It’s fine but after a few hours it’s frustrating. And for some reason this year it’s felt buggy, my cursor would jump around when making transform adjustments. Premiere surprisingly been stable and allowed me to get through a project. All that being said, I agree, do what works for your workflow. Premiere in my case is best for my client work.
FCPBRO🎉Thank You
Haha yes 👍
After 10+ years on FCPX, DaVinci is nothing but a over-complicated MIGRAINE to me. And I have edited EVERYTHING from award winning feature length films and documentaries to commercial work all in FCPX.
It’s a fantastic tool. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. I’m two weeks ahead on YT videos and got several client ones done this week and I have a strong hunch it is because all of it was FCP this week
I used to edit on Premier for 7 years and then i switched in the last 4 years to Final Cut Pro. Now im using Davinci too and its great, but one thing is sure for me. Final Cut Pro without plugins is a base editing software but final cut with great plugins is the best you can try. Smooth, fast in editing and you enjoy the edit more with them.
I am in the exact same boat as you. When editing for my other channel I switch between resolve and FCP. Just wish Resolve had the “second” skimming playhead and that you with a modifier key could move all clips to make space for a clip dragged in from another track. Imagine if the timeline could act magnetic with a modifier key just like you can overwrite the magnetic timeline in FCP🥳 Just a few small optional features in Resolve and I would be all in😊 I love your channel by the way👍👍
Hey! Glad you love the channel!!! And yes agree, it wouldn't take much for a few things to completely sell me on Resolve and the secondary playhead would be a big one. Honestly that is probably my main hold up right now when you boil it all down.
what in the bipolar is this bg music bro lmao but yeah deadass been back on fcpx after the 10.8.1, resolve19 been good too but all these features and I still can't keyframe a damn hipass filter on resolve yk, ggoing back to the basics 👏
Don’t blame you at all 🫡
That's the only goose I know how to be :(
Me too 😂😂
mannn I'd love to see the real stats on total users for these big three and how they've changed over the past 10 years...
I would as well. Big time
Has anyone tried Hit Film Pro (is that still a thing?)
Awesome video 😊 I have the same issue with Davinci people saying "it's not that hard, just clic and hold" but they really don't get the huge difference it is 😂 And still, I don't know if you didn't want to blow their mind too much or something but there is so much this function can do ! Literrally all shortcuts happen on playhead 🤯 You breafly said that if you have more layers it gets convoluted, I thing that's one of the aspect it actually shines. Basically, it just does it by default on the top layer OR on the selected clip 😊 - You can trim all clips at once too 🤯 - And if you develop the audio, if nothing is selected, you trim just the video to make L or J cut, or if you select the audio just trim the audio. - You can insert clips were you secondary playhead is. - If you insert a transition, it goes to the both ends, or just your edit edit point, if you are at reasonable distance 😮 - If you copy attribute (and nothing is selected) you copy the clip under it - If you paste (and nothing selected) it also happens under it. - Your default effect happens under it - Markers happen under it - In and out points too ! And all this, not only in timeline, but also in browser ("bins") 😮 I've been backpacking for the last 11 years. And I don't mean sleeping in hostel, I mean sleeping in the wood, streets and dodgy place 😅 I literrally never had a flat surface for a mouse. In fact I didn't even own one until recently (for davinci and gaming 😅). And I think, this single feature makes touch pad awesome for editing ❤ Actually, it might even make editing on trackpad FASTER than with a mouse 😮 In Davinci, just try to click and hold on a trackpad, you are going to give up in 3mn 🤣 It is the single best thing that happenned to video editing since digital 😂
Just notice that the last comment was also mine, 2 month ago 😅 Sorry for dupe 🙏
Couldn’t agree more with this. Feels so small but damn it is everything
