this was a great video and really an eye opener. i see so many videos on here where people talk about how easily they got 50k subs and now make 5k+ a month and can now retire and see the world lol and it makes me wonder if im making a mistake by not trying to be a content creator but i also enjoy not really being on here much or any social meida.

I don't even know how I stumbled across this channel but there's no way you only have 19k Subscribers. You deserve way more.

Been shooting video for 18 years, 13 of it for money, and still not burnt out. How? I think your last point is important, but I wanna frame it a little different. I don't take money for my photography. I'll charge you through the nose if you want me to light your movie because I'm really good at that. I'm a good photographer too, but I only take photos for myself, you can have a copy but you can't hire me. Keep a little part of what you do for yourself and never let anyone take it from you, leave the rest to your career and do what you love every day. Balance.

I really enjoy your videos and the effort that you put into then. I don't know if it is a good thought to share, but for some reason I have a feeling that you can be very big if you try to cover storytelling type of content than covering mostly technical editing topics. Just a thought, regards of anything - I'm curious to see what will come, perhaps nor treating it like a job is the best way to do it well :)

You can't learn the algorithm when it is changed constantly. I used to love my "job" until the govt regulations changed it, cut my income 80% and has me struggling on everything. It's hard just to get out of bed. I turn to my "art" as an outlet.

Man. As a husband, father of two, and a full time touring musician for the past 14 or so years, I feel this in my soul. I love my main “day” job of being in my band, but I’ve fallen in love with cameras, cinematography and content creation in recent years and I have been putting pressure on myself to try to cram in creating content into my already crazy schedule. It has certainly taken some of the fun out of it for me, this is the perfect reminder that it’s time for a mindset shift around YT and video work in general. Once again, incredibly valuable video man. Looking forward to any content we get from you moving forward, you’re an absolute legend.

I feel this. Having a secure job with a family makes a lot of sense. Being a full time creator is a lot of instability and stress 😅 There’s a time and a season for everything.

I deeply felt every one of those points. I’ve been making videos when I feel like making them for a while now and I’ve been a lot happier. My content also requires hundreds of hours of making the craft before editing even begins… I just couldn’t handle it all myself. I hope you can step back and create videos that you want to make

This reminds me of that Fuji guy pal2tech who is known for Fuji stuffs but he occasionally posts stuffs like how to use iPhone as your webcam with not much effort which ended up generating him the most money than his other videos that what his subscribers are subscribed to watch.

It's such a weird chicken and egg situation, this creative thing. We want to create and we love it so much. But we also need to pay bills. But when the two mix, we stop loving it so much. It becomes a job. And jobs suck (well, not your 9-5 apparently 😂). Then we stop creating. But we still love it. But we need money. But...ART! Gaahhhhhh!!!

For such simple videos Ideas your edits and the amount of work that went into filming it is a testament to how much work you put into your videos. Anyone who has spent a moderate amount of time working in this field can see the effort put in. Thanks for all the knowledge that you've shared!

I like your editing. But this is confusing. You mean to say you don't want to be a full time UA-camr who does UA-cam for a living? You are still a UA-camr though, aren't you?

Like I’ve said before, you have mad skills at editing, production, great equipment and much more. you’re just battling against what a majority of the viewers want to watch. Not as many people are interested in what I do but I keep doing it because I love the comments and it makes some monthly bonus money. If I had the creativity you have and used it in my videos I think it might help me hit the 100k goal but when the videos don’t make the money a skilled editor charges it makes it a wash. The main thing is do what you enjoy for your reasons listed and you will find the real people that love your content are the ones that will matter the most even if it’s just the same 20 or so that comment every time.

agree.. i believe for artists he seems very lame. he loves advertising so is not ashamed of cheesiness and hes good at "visible" editing which makes it look impressive. however i don't feel engaged, i don't feel much for his art. a good video editor/artist whos not in advertising will make you truly feel more without the viewer even noticing there was a talanted editor behind the work. it literally all feels like ads. since i like to just feel the art without needing to feel impressed and don't like when it's sold to hard i don't enjoy his work. but i understand why people like him. it's just what your preferences are. but i feel artist of other stuff then video editing wouldn't care for his art. similar with slew and his artshow. his followers obviously love him and his art, making it feel like he's a great artist and making him believe he could sell it for a lot of money. but for anyone in the art world his art show, his videos etc are impressive but not his actual art. and why he sold nothing.

Interesting! I've never actually used the Synchronize Clips option in FCPX, I resort to creating a Multicam Clip. I'll have to play with this.

Synced clips are definitely flawed in FCP. Feels like a vestige. Even with a one to one, I use multicam. Mainly because once you put the synced clip on a timeline, it becomes its own instance. Meaning that every change you make inside of it isn't reflected in the synced clip in the browser. It becomes a nightmare, fast. You better make sure that your synced clip in the browser is FINAL. Multicam is beast though.

I also use both Final Cut Pro and Davinci resolve I can say with certainty that Davinci is superior in audio syncing.. you can also sync multiple audio tracks in the timeline just select them right click.

4:33 Resolve's voice isolation is good but it is very resource-heavy. I use Waves ClarityVX (I am NOT endorsing Waves - bad company but good product) and it literally does not affect performance one bit. Thanks for doing this video. I'm considering downgrading from and to the same systems but I'm doubting it now.
