SPITFIRES.COM - SPITFIRE FLY ALONGSIDE EXPERIENCE
Join us as we embark on one of our Spitfire Fly Alongside flight experiences from the last all-grass Battle of Britain airfield on the south coast, Goodwood Aerodrome in West Sussex.
RR232, the Spitfire we reserve for our fly alongside sorties is an original wartime Spitfire Mk IX HF.IX high altitude fighter that has been meticulously restored to her former glory.
You’ll begin your flight by departing Goodwood Aerodrome, the last remaining all-grass Battle of Britain airfield on the South Coast and will rendezvous with the Spitfire over the “Bullseye” in the local area.
During your flight, you'll enjoy the sight of the Spitfire's famous elliptical wings, her speed and her effortless manoeuvrability as you pass over some of the most beautiful scenery the UK has to offer.
When safe and appropriate to do so, the Spitfire will formate in close proximity to the Airvan on the left and right hand sides so no matter where you’re sitting, you’ll have the best view of this iconic fighter! The Spitfire will then perform breaks, dynamic manoeuvres and highspeed fly pasts to demonstrate just how fast and nimble she really is!

See how we painted D-Day stripes on BS410 (G-TCHI), one of our Supermarine Spitfire TR9s! We used the original technique of chalking the lines to follow and hand-painting the aircraft recognition stripes with paint brushes. Our Chief Pilot then displayed her in the evening to show off her new scheme. It was a whole team effort and it's important to remember the events of the 6th of June, 1944.

What a great experience this is. When you look out the window and see a Spitfire forming up it's an incredible feeling. A spitfire is a beautiful aircraft on the ground but when it is next to you in formation it's elegance is perfectly demonstrated.

What a beautiful thing. Spitfire with invasion stripes, and the sound of that Merlin engine.
Such beautiful aeroplanes, their sound is music to my ears. But my eyes watered unheeded on 80th D-Day, knowing why these beauties came to be. It's one thing to watch a movie about D-Day, it's another entirely to hear an old man who, when just a teenager was there, jumping into seawater with hundreds of others, hearing bullets whistling past him & hit the man slightly off side in front of him, fold over & sink under the weight of his kit. If the bullet hadn't killed him, the sea would. What do those few surviving people think about the people & countries that they were fighting for, what do they think of us now?

The Spitfire was not the only aircraft to be in service at the start and at the end of WW2...Bf 109, Ju 87, Wellington (Costal Command?), Lysander perhaps? So many.
Am I right in thinking that the Bolton Paul Defiant was still in service as a night fighter?
