this video was recommended to me and I’m not familiar with your other content. I have fibromyalgia and MS and everything you said here resonated so hard with me. I think it’s great that you’ve found ways to make videos when you’re not up to being on camera. Fibro solidarity xx
Thank you! Today was a hard day and your kindness is much appreciated. Solidarity sister x
Are you mixing your chemistry with the hot agar or you layering it on top. Great process and great work. Trying to figure it out here in Singapore. Thanks for any help you may have
No I was applying the agar agar then once set applying the cyanotype
@ thanks for the reply!
We totally agree ❤
As someone who is learning to deal with Fibromyalgia I appreciate being able to see and sympathise with someone else. You are so brave to be able to share and you are so strong ❤
Thank you 🙏 I am hoping that it would help people understand that these conditions do exist. Sorry to hear you have it too. There are so many of us!
Thank you for sharing your experience with your condition, I enjoy watching your content. Don't push yourself too hard to uploading new videos, your efforts will always be appreciated. You're super strong to hold out this long, get better soon!
Thank you! That’s very kind of you :)
Great work
Mint work
Stunning xxx
He he. Love it xxx
Thanks mam ❤️
Do this on a print and watch your image disappear almost instantly.
Yeah cyanotype is not keen on heat :)
This is such an elegant craft! And a great repurposing of a book. The necklace beads definitely look like little red berries 🙂
Thank you so much!
Love this ❤
Thank you very much
Cool 😎
Thanks bud
That looks absolutely delicious Jo! Will definitely do a chicken that way next time!
It's so good!
This was great. Thank you for sharing the process
Thank you
Could 100% acetone also work as an alternative?
Yeah definitely :)
Thank you So much.
My pleasure :)
wow this is incredible, love your community work and the wall hangings! the wall hanging especially has given me an idea of how to use a load of cyanotype primed paper that I made but then didn’t use in time so it’s all exposed 😂
Totally! Don’t waste good paper :)
Excited! Thank you! Already itching with ideas. So inspiring!
You are so welcome! Enjoy 🥰🎅🥰
These are lovely. Thanks for the inspiration.
Thank you
🎨
So many possibilities! Thanks. There is something about that blue that just fits into so many forms, sculptural or not, they are all great!
Thank you very much! There’s another five in the points in the blog but my voice was giving out
Hi have you tried tinting your glass prints with tea or coffee?.
No but instagram.com/__alineo?igsh=MTN0aXppYzFxdDNuNA== has and I think she ruined her bath 😂🤩
How much gelatins to the water?
@ 7 grams
Wonder if you could use transparent glaze and then glaze fire to seal them instead of using varnish
If you get a low fire glaze or low fire the cyanotype cone 4 then glaze after. It will turn orange :)
@@JoHowell oh that would be interesting to see!
Hi Jo! These cyanotypes are absolutely beautiful! I’ve tried this technique before, but I didn’t pay enough attention to my porcelains, and they eventually faded to a greyish hue. I think I didn’t put in enough effort with the cold washes, which allowed them to continue developing. Do you have any tips for stopping the development process on porcelain? Also, what varnish do you use at the end? Is it UV resistant? I really want to try again but this time I want to make sure my cyanotypes survive
maverickbeyond.com/2021/02/11/cyanotype-on-glass-and-ceramic/?amp=1
Love this especially because you did it live so I could be clear about how to do it. Love your style-it feels like I am haveing a secret chat with you in your home. Wondering if you could do one about toning or using things that give it a turquoise color.
Thank you! Yes, I’m going to plan some Saturday live streams. I have work this weekend so likely in another week or two :)
Hi! Just found your live demo on Facebook and really enjoyed it. I was wondering, could you paint on the cyanotype wash after you weave the papers? Would that make rinsing easier? Thanks for sharing, I really appreciated your explaining the benefits of using the grow light for it being a perfect overhead exposure. :)
If you paint the weave after it’s woven you will definitely have uneven coverage because the cyanotype will want to grip into the crevices :) have fun! Try one that way in case I’m wrong ❤️
@@JoHowell thank you for this, I haven't done much cyanotype and I think I will have to test this out. I love weaving paper and the look it creates, so I am excited to experiment. It does make me feel like a kid again when I weave paper as well. Take care!
@kedrynevans6240 I have a few articles on my website that might be helpful maverickbeyond.com
I don’t get it why is this video din’t have any likes this video is incredible
Aw thank you ❤️
Wait thats Creative
Thank you
This song scares tf outta me
My work here is done 😂
@@JoHowell lol
That’s glass?❤
Bio plastic. I got my ratio wrong and the entire piece slid off the glass so I just let it dry. Feels like seaweed.
Nice job ...In the past I with others I have formed a CIC for charitable endeavour. So go for it and good luck. Surely the Arts Council can get behind you due to the heritage if nothing else ?? Put a call out to all artistic glass workers they'll get behind your efforts I am sure. I am a 'cyanotyper' and was checking out your videos for ceramics and came across your cause.
I don’t know why this comment was disliked! I blame sausage fingers or glitch
Beautiful ❤
Just discovered cyanotype today and found your videos. Loads of useful information, thank you! I would really like to give this a go. I notice your negatives are larger than I'm used to seeing. I know you're a photographer and have access. How would a non-photographer find something like this? Your video was great btw, loved the content.
Aw thank you 🙏 I use acetate to print my negatives but you can use tracing paper as well. I have a laser printer which was really cheap only prints black. Honestly contrast is king with cyanotype. Inkjet doesn’t hold the ink as well :)
.
Hi Are these bisque fired porcelain tiles?
Yeah :)
First! This is rly cool!
Thanks! 😄
I'm a big fan of your creations. You're such a big inspiration for me 💙
Aw thank you 🤩
Brilliant. Love watching you do your art xx
Thanks mam ❤️
I think cone 04 is better than 4. And even going lower seems to make it better
Jo, I recently got a kiln and I have been doing Cyanotype for the past year on paper. Is there any safety concerns for firing in a kiln? I have my kiln vented from the bottom to the outdoors. I can't find a lot of info for the firing of the cyanotype but I would love to try it.
Don’t varnish if you are going to fire. I would fire overnight when there’s less people to inhale anything noxious but it should be about the same as iron oxide. Do cone 3 firing first. The cyanotype has a burnout point that’s quite low. Good luck! Find me on instagram and let me see your experiments :)
Where do you get the glass?
Offcuts from the National glass centre
Such a good idea ❤
Thank you 🙏

Thank you 🤩

What a cool idea!
Thank you 🙏
What is the powder ?
Oxi action washing crystals
Thank you for sharing this, it is super helpful! I was curious if you have ever tried toning the cyanotypes on ceramics?
I haven’t. I’m not sure it would work… Give it a go. All my ceramic tiles are varnished but I’ll be doing some new tiles for a Patreon lesson soon. I might have a go with one before the varnish stage. Good question.
