Story Of The Album by Eli Joseph
In the early 90s Aris San was booked to have few shows at the BABA night club in Queens New York.
Kayli Joseph was a pianist / keyboard player who was part of the house band. During the reheasals Aris got to know the extreme talent of Kayli as she was working with him and transcribing his music and making charts for his show.
At that time she also introduced me, her husband Eli, also a musician/ guitar player.
Kayli and I were 2 musicians who came to the USA to learn music and find a publisher who can help them publish their music.
In the days that follow, we and Aris simply came together and Aris played us few songs and we started working on his music.
Aris was full of stories from his time in Israel and America. Fascinating stories about his career and life.
Aris used to come to their little apartment in Queens and worked on his music but it was more than just music it was friendship. We hung out for hours and he took us to his favorite restaurants and clubs in the city.
After gathering enough material Aris said “Well, it’s time record and produce a new album”.
I was in charge of finding the right studio and we went to check out few of them on Long Island. Aris said “Don’t worry about the price. Just let me know if you are comfortable working there”
At that time Zvi Zion, a business man /musician who worked with Aris in the past was brought in the picture to finance the album.
The album was recorded at Media Recording Studios Long Island NY.

I lived in Israel as a young child in the early 1960's, having come from the former Soviet Union. I discovered the music of Aris San in the early 1970's when I was in high school and started going to dances in the Hillel building in Brooklyn College. The band was called the Sabras and they played the music of Aris San. It was so joyful and exciting. I bought his records and danced at home. My mother was sick and I needed something joyful. Aris wonderful warm voice and music helped me. I later brought my boyfriend/future husband and his parents to Sirocco. We sat on the upper level and I remember seeing the belly dancer below, dancing near the tables. My husband and I went to Cosmico years later. It was a completely different atmosphere but we were glad to see him again. This documentary was completely fascinating and very informative. I didn't know anything about this amazing artist's life. Searching UA-cam, I also watched a movie in which he acted in the mid 1970's which was not mentioned in this film. This is certainly a cautionary tale and such a waste of a unique talent and complex individual.
