@@MakisodeCrochetAcademy I agree with @MsSANDRA1024. BTW, I watched all the related videos to this one. They were not helpful to me. The excessive talking was a huge distraction. They should be redone in a more clear and concise manner. The instructions are incomplete, e.g., you don't show how to increase the rounded end of the crown to get to 60-66 stitches (i.e., "maintain" increasing). There's no complete structured formula on how to achieve your pear shape. One of the videos begin with the crown almost completed. Using dark colored yarn doesn't help and constantly turning a finished hat around does not effectively teach how to achieve the finished result.

@@catalinamargomyers9970 No, not sewing into the elastic band. Yes, just joining the crochet portion of the pants around the band. That portion has to deliberately be crafted to be double the height of the band so it can go around just snugly.

What size hook
For this tutorial, your hook size will be dependent on the yarn type available to you in your area and the drape you would like to feel on your project. If you want the drape loose, you could use a large hook size between 6mm - 10mm but if you want it tight (stitches) then you may want to use size 3mm - 5mm. Remember to swatch first to check out what I have just talked about.
